Why this must be read: Inspired by the movie America’s Sweethearts, this is a fantastic romcom take on Merlin, in which Arthur is a spoiled movie star and Merlin is his long-suffering personal assistant. The premise is a delight, the dialogue witty, and the romance surprisingly sweet, given how much of a prat Arthur starts off as.

Why this must be read: Good fic about Dee in which she's not the evil interloper is hard to find--even harder to find at fanfiction.net. This is a graceful and poignant Dee POV story, starting before her marriage and continuing through mid-season four. There are a few minor punctuation and phrasing problems, but this is definitely worth the read if you've been wanting to read some sympathetic, realistic fic about this marriage.

Why this must be read: Longer than your average Maurice fanfic and more satisfying than most, Somewhere to Begin offers a vision of Maurice and Alec's life some years after the novel's ending. The deft use of original characters and the vivid writing make this story a pleasure to read.

09:37 pm .02; a story of the Uphere (PG) by Mercutio

Pairing: Howie/Nick

Why this must be read: This was actually written for the Don We Now Our Gay Apparel popslash secret santa exchange back in 2004. All of the stories that have come out of that exchange are wonderful, some truly talented writers, and I would recommend all of them. But this one really stole my heart.

It's an AU, which normally I'm not fond of, but it's well done. Howie is a psychologist who finds himself growing increasingly cynical about the world we live in, and for good reason. He is sent to evaluate a juvenile delinquent, Nick; but there's something different about this case. Through interviews and court documents Nick's story takes form, and it turns out to be the key to the answer that Howie is searching for. This is a story for anyone who has ever found themselves dissatisfied, questioning, and hoping for something better.
