Title: Dark Still Water by LitGal Pairing: none Length: novel-length Author on LJ: lit_gal Author Website: Worshipping the Geeks Why this must be read: I was hesitant to recommend another SG1 crossover – I think it’s the most popular cross in Sentineldom. However, this one caught my eye last month and hooked me good and proper. Perhaps it will do the same for you. “Dark Still Water” stays away from the more common plots found in TS/SG1 crosses. The government *does* know about heightened senses, but considers them a disability instead of an asset. They knew Jim had them during his time in the Army, but couldn’t care less. The SG1 team comes to Cascade to find a missing friend of Daniel’s. They cross paths with a very suspicious Jim and Blair at just about the worst possible time – during the events of Murder 101, when Jim and Blair are at odds over the Ventriss case plus the unresolved aftermath of Alex. Coincidence? Judge for yourself. This story is also unusual in that it’s told largely through the eyes of Teal’c, which is a nifty twist. The unique relationship between Jim and Blair, which so often confuses Earth outsiders, is seen through the prism of Teal’c's cultural customs. He also brings a different perspective to what the “way of the shaman” means. Lest you think that this is only a TS story with SG1 players, never fear. There are Stargate missions and Jack and Daniel’s personality quirks and a chance to see all the characters at their bests and worsts. Give it a try! Dark Still Water She has also written a short fic in the same universe: Still a Little Off (rated TEEN) BTW, Lit Gal likes feedback, no matter how you feel about her stuff. So don’t forget to send some!

Title: Giver of Gifts by Mirabehn Pairing: Annatar/Macbeth Author on LJ: mirabehnAuthor Website: http://www.fluffhouse.org.uk/mirabehn/library.htmlWhy this must be read: There's not a whole lot of Shakespeare crossovers out there, and most of what is out there consists of crossovers between Shakespeare's plays. But this little snippet -- ahh! Mirabehn has pitted two British literary greats against each other, and it could not be more apropos, especially considering that Tolkien wrote the Ents into The Lord of the Rings precisely because he thought that the solution to Birnham Wood coming to Dunsinane in the Scottish Play was stupid. Mirabehn kind of goes along in that vein, using another of Tolkien's characters to explain the setup to the Scottish Play. Just how did the witches know to waylay Himself on the way home from battle after all? Be forewarned . . . this is a dark, dark story. ( He came to me in the darkness, on the first night of the MacDonwald campaign. )Giver of Gifts

Title: Bridges by Tassos Pairing: none Length: 115,584 words Author on LJ: tassosssAuthor Website: Vast UniversesWhy this must be read:I was torn about reccing this story. One of the reasons to rec fic is to point out stories that don't get the recognition they deserve, and Bridges certainly gets plenty of recognition. But the other reason to rec fic is to make sure that people don't miss amazing stories, and that's why I ultimately decided to include it today. This is an AMAZING story, and I think it's a shining example of just how good crossovers can be. The premise is very simple: Jack O'Neill finds out that a brief fling in his past resulted in a child ... named Alexander Harris. The "Real Family" premise is the basis of innumerable crossovers, but in Bridges, Xander and Jack's relationship isn't just a cheap way to get the fandoms to cross. It's the heart of the story, which examines how these men move from being strangers to being family in the midst of their own chaotic, unusual lives. I've read this story many, many times, and the attention to characterization never fails to impress me. ( chunk of a snippet )Go. Read. Love. Tell the author. Bridges

Fandom: TORCHWOOD Pairing: None Length: 2,249 words Author on LJ: prochytesAuthor Website: His LJ Why this must be read:Nearly everything prochytes writes is a crossover, so I could have picked almost any of his Torchwood fic for Crack Van Collisions, but I have chosen to rec this ficlet because it's sad and uplifting, and something I needed to read, without knowing that I needed it. This is post-CoE, and a really quite broken Gwen goes to visit Sarah-Jane. Of all the people who can fix things in a post-CoE world, I think Sarah-Jane Smith has the best chance, and when I finished reading this my heart was a little lighter. That's more precious than diamonds. Six days after the world ended, there was a car-boot sale at the bottom of Bannerman Road.Intervention

Title: Operator, by Salieri Pairing: Jack/Daniel est. Length: 26,000 Author on LJ: troyswannAuthor Website: Outside the BoxWhy this must be read:I promise I have several recs by authors other than Salieri this month, but I had to get this one in for crossover day. RL has let up, so you'll be seeing more frequent posts between now and the end of the month. Now, on to Operator. *rubs hands together with glee* This story will make you feel like you took that red pill all over again. The way Sal integrates the two universes together is just amazing. Then she gives us a glorious Sam, brilliant and beautiful and stubborn; a Teal'c who isn't Teal'c, and yet, most certainly is; and a Jack and Daniel who are snarky and determined and together. The characters from The Matrix exist mainly as cameos, as the focus is mainly on the SG-1 team, but there are many wonderful nods to the movies. Operator

Title: This River's Full of Lost Sharks by hardlygolden Pairing: none Length: 12,800 words Author on LJ: hardlygoldenAuthor Website: Fic tag on LJWhy this must be read:Missouri calls Sam and Dean and asks them to check out a case of grave desecration in Neptune. As always in Neptune, things are more complicated than they seem. Set shortly after "Lucifer Rising" for Supernatural (no s5 spoilers), and a few years after the end of Veronica Mars, this story nails the characters from both series, and does a great job showing them interacting. Dean bantering with Veronica is one of my very favorite things, and I also liked Sam and Logan finding common, if tragic, ground. Two hours later, Dean was happily devouring a cheeseburger in the local diner when Veronica slid into the seat across from him.
"So," said Veronica. "Word on the street is that you're an FBI agent."
"Yes, ma'am," said Dean, easy smile rising to his lips. "Want to see my badge?"
"No thanks," said Veronica coolly. "I've got one of my own."
"Is that so?" said Dean as he methodically slathered ketchup on his fries. "Aren't you a little too hot for an FBI agent?"
"Aren't you a little too alive for a dead person?" she countered.
Dean's hand stilled half-way to the salt shaker.
"Yeah," said Veronica. "That's what I thought. So tell me, Bonnie – where's Clyde?"
"Hold up - why am I Bonnie?" protested Dean indignantly.
"So not the point," said Veronica. "Where's your brother, Dean?"
"So not the point," echoed Dean. I love crossovers, and this story is a prime example of why. The parallels and resonances between the Winchesters and the various residents of Neptune ring true and shed light on all involved. Plus, there's fun banter, a possible zombie invasion, and Veronica pwning all. What's not to love? This River's Full of Lost Sharks by hardlygoldenIf you enjoy the story, please let the author know. ~*~

Title: Brought to you by the Letter X... Pairing: Mulder/Scully, Jim/Pam Length: 37,000 words Author on LJ: stablergirl Author Website: Fics(all for The Office)Why this must be read: I cannot put into words how amazing this crossover is. This is the ONLY one that I thought of when I was thinking about my month of recs for the X-Files. I know The Office and The X-Files don't scream crossover...I was a little skeptical when I first started, but stablergirl won me over with the first chapter and it is now one of my favorite stories ever. Even if you don't know one of the fandoms, you can still enjoy this story. It is absolutely hilarious, and the Mulder/Scully banter is so perfect (which is a really hard thing to do IMO). The Jim/Pam and Mulder/Scully moments are clever, hot, and balanced perfectly. It is a casefile type of fic but stablergirl's stories are more about the characters, and their interactions with each other. GO READ IT RIGHT NOW! :) (And yes, this story is worthy of capslock abuse haha) Enjoy. Brought to you by the Letter X...

Title: Six Thousands years in... Pairing: Methos/Alucard (sort of) Author on LJ: Sakiku Author Website: on ff.netWhy this must be read: The highlander fandom has so many fantastic very popular crossovers. I thought I would rec something that most people haven't heard of. The series starts with Six thousand years in a bar and is a crossover with the anime series Hellsing, but should be enjoyable even to those not familiar with Hellsing. Methos is ducking 'fledgling' vampires by slipping into a bar and meets Alucard, the arrogant master vampire who is currently under the control of the 'Hellsing organisation'. Throughout the series Alucard prowls around trying to satisfy his curiosity about the cagey immortal. They spend their time trying to outwit and intimidate each other, ending up with a strange sort of friendship, that I imagine is similar to the sort of reationship he had with Kronos. ( A sample ) Six Thousand Years in a Bar Six Thousand Years on a Plane Six Thousand Years in a Room Considerably More than Six Thousand Years in Space

Title:: Put that thing back where it came from (or so help me) by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Pairing: Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles Length: 10,275 words Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: Fic list on LJWhy this must be read:Yes, quite the unusual crossover I admit. This was written for [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], a challenge putting Jared and Jensen into Disney films, in this case Monsters Inc. The premise is that Boo has a child, Jensen, and then goes back to live with monsters, so Jensen grows up as a monster and tries to scare Jared, a a monster should, of course. The idea may strike you as rather crack-y, yes, but it isn’t really. Very funny, and written with humor and intelligence, you really enjoy Jared’s bemused experience and Jensen’s… unique situation. A great read, that's great fun. Put that thing back where it came from (or so help me)

Title: Little Boy Lost Pairing: Gen Length: 3,725 words Author on LJ: Phenyx_tP Author Website: Unknown, but here are some other stories by the same author Why this must be read:I'm sure there are other due South/Dresden Files crossovers out there (that have, you know, some Dresden Files in them) but this one is so sweet and warm, that it's got to be my pick for today. Because you know that six-year-old Fraser would be just like this... ( The sound of a door opening interrupted any response Vecchio would have made. )Little Boy Lost

Title: Vertigo by Mahoni Pairing: None; gen Length Long: 5200 words Author on LJ: mahoniAuthor Website: Fic Masterlist on LJWhy this must be read:MCR/DCU crossovers are not common, so I took notice when this fun story was posted several weeks ago. I dig the Bob Bryar POV, and the Bob/Batman scenes made me grin hugely. Seriously, that band of comic book nerds would be bursting with joy to actually meet a caped superhero! Vertigo

Title: The Challenge by senor_coconut_1Pairing: Kring/Kripke Author on LJ: senor_coconut_1Author Website: Not that I can find. Why this must be read: So, yes, this is technically RPS. But really, this fic is not about Kripke or Kring so much as it is about the brothers and their seemingly incestous relationships. And whether you're a Wincest/Petrellicest fan or not, this fic is too funny to pass up. It's cracky. It totally explains EVERYTHING. ( Small, small snippet )The Challenge

Firstly, can I just say that this is weird. I mean seven shades of weird and yet utterly brilliant at the same time. Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E./The Addams Family (yes, you did just read that right) Length: 5,707 words Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin Author on LJ: Not sure Author Website: I found this one on the Wonderful World of Make Believe Why this must be read:Because it's just so off the wall. I mean, Crossovers are usually at least the same sort of genre, like Man from UNCLE and say, The Professionals (and yes, I probably could have picked one of those), but this one is just so.....out there! And it's even slash (albeit very light)! The Addams' remain true throughout the fic despite the even weirder than usual circumstances, and Napoleon and Illya are suitably bemused by the whole thing (although I love how Illya just takes a load of it in his stride). There is action and some sort of a semi-plausible plot (remember the hiccup gas people!), so I'm reccing this. It's hilarious and come on, who wouldn't want to see Illya squaring up against Lurch....read on and prepare for some utter craziness :-) An Addams Affair
