12:16 am Songvid Oddities: Gone With the Wind - Gold Digger
Vidder: AbsoluteDestiny
Musical artist: "Beethoven's Fifth Gold Digger" by A plus D
Pairing: Scarlett/Various

Vidder's website: Absolute Destiny
Why this vid kicks ass: This vid was controversial when it came out, prompting an interesting discussion about sexism, racism and the role(s) of fan commentary. It's easy to see why it made such an impact -- the editing is as sharp as a knife, which is AbsoluteDestiny's trademark, and the swirl of issues that those sharp, clean cuts bring to the fore are really fascinating. It's also one of the most gorgeous songvids I've ever seen.

Fandom: ENTOURAGE
Pairing: Vince/Eric
Length: One shot-under 12k

Why this must be read: Small fandoms often don't hit a lot of the tropes the larger ones manage--period pieces, supernatural stuff, crack fic, etc..., so it was a double joy to get this. It's Mpreg, fair warning, but well written, funny, angsty, believable Mpreg. Abi is a terrific writer with a knack for digging the knife in just right and then pulling it out again and healing you up.

Plus it's smartly in character, with a terrific Turtle, poignant and romantic, and just goes once again to prove that crack in the hands of a a really good writer becomes the pure, uncut good stuff. Check this one out, plus you can say you read the only Mpreg Entourage fic to exist--or at least to show it's face to the world.

12:43 pm The Eureka Field Guide to Zombie Invasions by havocthecat (PG)
Fandom: EUREKA
Pairing: Jack Carter/Allison Blake/Nathan Stark
Length: One-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] havocs_cry
Why this must be read: Eureka+Zombies = Fanfic gold.
This story captures the quirky, comedic tone of the show, perfectly. I adore this author's characterization of Allison. She's decisive, strong-willed, and knows how to get what she wants--up to and including the only possible response one can have when locked in a zombie-proof bunker with a bickering Jack and Nathan.

Plus, any fic that has Jo and Zoe wielding flamethrowers is automatically awesome.

Characters/Pairing: Ensemble
Length: 200 words

Author Website: Lost Fic List
Why this must be read: HILARIOUS! Just for fun, and it'll only take a minute to read! This is a humorous poem, not a fic. If you’ve ever read The Gashlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey, you’ll love this. If you haven’t, just click the link and you can read the original in about 1 minute, and then enjoy the Lost version.

Excerpt:
I is for Inman
Done in by a rock.
J is for Jack
Who weeps quite a lot.

Fandom: FAIRLY ODDPARENTS
Pairing: Cosmo/Wanda
Length: 1728
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] faded_fae
Author Website: soulfulsin@FF.Net
Why this must be read:

Indelible explores the depressing undertones of the premise of Fairly OddParents in a different way than Spent does. Even though Indelible accidentally contradicts recent canon, it does keep to the canon that existed at the time of its creation. Having Wanda as the main character was the perfect choice for this, and she's perfectly in character.

Fandom: Alias Smith and Jones
Pairing: Hannibal Heyes / Kid Curry
Length: approx 3,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hardboiledbaby
Author Website: unknown

Why this must be read: Ah where to begin? This is such a marvelous look at the partnership between Heyes and Curry. It's a quiet, complative piece where the boys are spending some time camped out alone while Curry recovers from an injury and deeper emotions rise to the surface. I love how the story unfolds, how she gets into Heyes' head and it all feels so right. It's so vividly told that I felt like I was watching it instead of reading it. It's just that good.

07:30 pm Lord of the Manor by Telperion_15 (NC-17)
Fandom: PRIMEVAL
Pairing: Stephen/Ryan, Stephen/Abby, Nick/Claudia
Length: 15 chapters
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] telperion_15
Author Website: None – check LJ masterlist for stories
Why this must be read:

Primeval's not had a vast number of AUs so far – maybe you don't need them so much in a universe where you can play around with timey-wimey concepts! But [livejournal.com profile] telperion_15 has brought us a wonderfully angsty historical romance with a real period feel to it where Ryan is the stable master and Stephen the heir to the estate, and the rest of the team are integrating very neatly. It's in 15 chapters, so it's ideal to curl up with in the warm and to wallow over a winter weekend!

Vidder: Zimshan
Musical artist: "All These Things That I've Done" by the Killers
Pairing: None
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zimshan
Vidder's website: My Vids Tag
Why this vid kicks ass: RPF vids have taken off in the last year or so, and this one is a beautiful snapshot of the sense of hope that was buzzing like a livewire during the American election. But it's more than that, too; it's the faces of everyday people, people like us. I love that we have songvids like this, side-by-side with those exploring more traditional fannish concerns. The passion is the same, the techniques the same, and it shows how we're connecting all these dots between our fictions and the wider world.
