Entourage looks so pretty when it cries that it's no wonder that most of the fic written for it contains large amounts of beautifully done angst. That's the opposite of the show which is usually about good times and fun and only dips into the angst well occasionally. So, to counter the stress that is the holiday season, these next two recs are all about the fun and frequently, the funny.

Fandom: ENTOURAGE
Pairing: Vince/Eric
Length: 3,927
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] matchsticks_p
Author Website: none

Why this must be read:Because everybody in the world knows E wants Vince and they have no problem telling him in variously insulting ways. Because Ari is not only spot on but frickin' hysterical in this. Because Vince would indeed make a gorgeous girl.

“Ari will get on board when he realizes how great the script is,” Vince says confidently, his arm still around Eric and his mouth therefore distractingly close to his ear. “Now come on, I went mascara shopping this morning. Help me decide which one makes me look like the prettiest girl.”

I promised myself to try and rec something from every major continuity, and showing the fandom cliches. Here is a rec that covers two of them.

Fandom: TRANSFORMERS
TF Continuity: TFA
Pairing: Megatron/Optimus Prime
Length: novel
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lyricality
Author website: none fandom
Why this must be read:

In a fandom about giant alien robots, does it surprise you that there is an LOT of bonding!fic? Or that slashers would pair the archenemies together? Yeah, no surprise there.

This is set in the Transformers: Animated series, and it is one creative masterpiece. Despite everything, the way Optimus pulls through and keeps trying to fix things rings perfectly of his character. Not everything is fixed by the end (not yet) but you are left in a place with such solid foundations that you cannot help but dream of what will come.

Warning: elements of non-con

Vidder: tearful eye
Musical artist: "the living" by natalie merchant
Pairing: None
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye
Vidder's website: my vid masterlist
Why this vid kicks ass: [livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye has one of the most distinctive styles of any vidder I've ever seen -- beautiful cuts, gorgeous use of repetition, and a relentless build that starts off slow and ramps you up and up until you're left limp with emotion and awe. "Care to Stay" is about the many character deaths there have been in recent fan shows, and it's heartbreaking.

04:00 pm In the mourning by shadowbyrd, G
Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: Kim/Judy
Length: 1750 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shadowbyrd
Author Website: Author's Fic Tag
Why this must be read:

Kim and Judy didn't make it. Fics about Patients of the Week are relatively rare in House fandom so it is a real treat when one this good comes along. This fic features Kim and Judy, parents of Baby Boy Chen/Lupino in "Maternity."

05:13 pm Simulacra by Sakon76 (PG-13, with NC-17 sidefic)
Fandom: TRANSFORMERS
TF Continuity: 2009 Movie
Pairing: Sam/Mikaela, Sam/Mikaela/Bee
Length: about 13,000 words overall
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sakon76
Author website: on FF.net
Why this must be read:

One thing the 2007 movie created is the AllSpark!Sam genre. There is a LOT of that kind of fic floating around, churned into a frenzy when the 2009 trailer came out to support it. This is my favorite take on the AllSpark-enabled Sam. Sakon76 has a deft hand with story telling, and it is beautiful. She makes all the plot holes in ROTF forgivable because it gave us this.

08:10 pm A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing by Munchkinofdoom (PG)
Fandom: PRIMEVAL
Pairing: Gen
Length: 20,000 words (five parts)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] munchkinofdoom
Author Website: None – see LJ masterlist
Why this must be read:

If this was a novel, you'd call it a page-turner. It's an exciting adventure five-parter, set on a remote Scottish island that hides a dangerous secret. [livejournal.com profile] munchkinofdoom writes great action scenes and is a very sound plotter, so you always know you're in safe hands with her.

09:11 pm Woman, Wondering by jedibuttercup (K+/PG)
Fandom: EUREKA
Pairing: Allison Blake/Nathan Stark, but no more than in canon
Length: 700 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jedibuttercup
Author Website: Jedi Buttercup
Why this must be read: A wonderful character study of Allison:

She knew she'd hurt and confused him in the months leading up to the wedding-that-hadn't-happened; she still wasn't sure how to explain it to him in words that didn't sound selfish and condescending, but in a strange way it had been Jack's strong, supportive nature and unwavering appreciation for her that had given her the confidence to accept Nathan's second proposal. Without his catalyzing presence, she didn't think either she or Nathan would ever have reached a place where they could have made those sorts of promises to each other again, and mean them.

[livejournal.com profile] jedibuttercup's writing always shows such an insightful understanding of these characters.

09:29 pm The Un-cool Kind of Zombie Apocalypse by kristories (PG)
Fandom: EUREKA
Pairing: Mentions Jack Carter/Nathan Stark
Length: One-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kristories
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] kristories
Why this must be read: "For the last time," Nathan bites out. "He is not a Zombie." Restrained on the bed Fargo moans 'braaaaaaaaaiiiiiinssss' and reaches for Nathan.

I began this set of recs with blowing up the entire canon, so the only appropriate way to end it is with another apocalypse. This story is priceless! Zombies in Eureka! It could be an episode! It has the perfect mix of fantasy cliche and skientific explanation! So many lines made me laugh-out-loud, especially:

Nathan stares at him like he's stupid, which, come to think of it, is Nathan's default expression where Jack is involved.

and

"Oh come on, Carter," Nathan says. "It's more of a guideline really. The DOD says 'bad scientist, no lab time', GD says 'but we need to finish project X and the DOD says 'okay fine, but bad scientist, remember we can take away your lab time'".

Have a Happy New Year!

11:35 pm A Heritable Lack of the Sportfucking Gene -lordessrenegade (M)
Fandom: ENTOURAGE
Pairing: Vince/Eric, mentions of Vince/others, Eric/others
Length: 1,730
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] lordessrenegade
Author Website: none
Why this must be read:This fic is a big ole' tease. Just when you think it's gonna descend into angst, it pulls back with a quick grin and a 'no worries mate'. It's the guys being the guys for every second of it and it works perfectly.
