12:51 pm The Stockholm Syndrome series, by [livejournal.com profile] thieving_gypsy (R)
Fandom: THE MIGHTY BOOSH
Pairing: Howard/Vince, ref to Howard/OFC
Length: Seven parts, plus bonus chapters
Warnings: AU, criminal violence, domestic violence, gun!kink, references to drug use, discussion of suicide, supporting character death

Why this must be read:

In 2003, British big beat electronica act Mint Royale released a video, “Blue Song,” in which the getaway driver for a bank heist (Noel Fielding) gets his groove on while waiting for his accomplices (Julian Barratt, Nick Frost, Michael Smiley) to make their exit.

Not surprisingly, this has inspired a fair amount of outlaw!fic in what is known as the Mint Royale AU. Since the characters are left unnamed in the video, this gives writers leeway in deciding who they are: some use the actors’ real names, others pick and choose among their roles. [livejournal.com profile] thieving_gypsy opted to give us a version of Vince and Howard seen through a glass, darkly. Despite the dysfunction of their relationship — there’s a reason this series has the name it does — an essential Howard-and-Vince-ness shines through. Take Moon’s recollection of how they became acquainted:
He just didn't feel *right* shooting someone who'd made him crack up laughing in the middle of a botched robbery. )

This story is not a comfortable read (note the warnings), but it’s undeniably gripping, often funny, sometimes very hot, and unexpectedly touching.

01:09 pm The Revisionist History Series by Lex (Adult)
Fandom: BtVS
Pairing: mainly Buffy/Angel
Length: mediumish serier
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] crankylex
Author Website: http://lex.bitchenvy.com/fiction.html
Why this must be read:

I love Buffy, and I am a pretty devoted Joss follower. But there are some scenes that just piss me off the way they are written - like Buffy being kicked out of her own house, and yet by the end of the episode its all okay again. The Revisionist History series is Lex's way of rewriting scenes that she didn't like- (making them a lot better in my opinion) It is a fairly long series but each story is a stand alone in its own universe.

02:53 pm Light the Sun by Primrose (PG-13)
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Length: Medium
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] primroseburrows
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: This is a first time fic that reads like an established relationship story because it is another example of my favorite Due South cliche of Ray and Fraser figuring out they are in a relationship well after the fact. It's a bit different than the previous fic I recced in that this is really Ray's journey as he finally realizes that he built a life with Fraser because he loves him. The story features lovely appearances by Ray Vecchio, Stella, and Maggie. I love the rhythm and feel of this story which is easy and gentle. You just slide into it and never want to leave.

Fandom: THE X-FILES

Length: Short fic

Author Website: Author's Page at Gossamer
Why this must be read:

Honestly, because Diana Fowley is not often explored as a "real" character in fanfiction. Too often she is seen as some cardboard cut-out of the femme fatale. This author takes Diana's character and makes her "real." Here is a real person, with interesting thoughts and motivations. This story is a very nice look to the person behind the well dressed facade.

*HR stumbles in the parking lot, looking for the van* I am sooo sorry on being so terribly late. I think I just got mugged in the parking lot. Seriously RL went wacka doodle, I shall try and make it up to y'all with some really good recs I hope.

Fandom: BONES
Pairing: Booth/Brennan

Why this must be read:

Because [livejournal.com profile] bite_or_avoid wrote it? Seriously, I would recommend just about anything this author writes. As for this story, this is one to read because not only does is capture some very "real" aspects of the Booth/Brennan relationship, like how he would do pretty much anything for her, but also has a very touching moment between Temperance and her father.

Go. Read. Enjoy. *grin*

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Five/Adric
Length: 550
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] megans_writing
Author Website: Master List of Fics
Why this must be read:

It's Fifth Doctor/Adric porn. But not only is it that, it is clever and humorous with a slightly dark underedge to it. You may think it's all innocent!Adric and teacherly!Five until you reach the end and realize you've got it reversed. Both characters are deliciously in clever with their banter and that includes, of course, the handjob.

10:18 pm Torchwood/Justice League (PG)
Title: The Justice League Of Cardiff Is A Stupid Name
Fandom: Torchwood/Justice League
Characters: Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Clark Kent (Superman), Bruce Wayne (Batman)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller
Author Website: Fic
Why this must be read:

The author's summary pretty much sums this up. Superman is evil and Batman wants to know why Torchwood's agents don't wear capes.

It is crack of the finest variety.

Excerpt: "He's an alien," Jack Harkness said, standing in front of the clear plexi wall of the Torchwood incarceration cell. "He's the last of his kind. So they say, anyway. His planet was destroyed in a cataclysm, and he was the only one spared."

"We seem to have a lot of those," Ianto volunteered, arms crossed, also regarding the alien. "He looks human. Weird, but human."

"Easy to say when he's not destroying any major city centres," Jack said. The man on the narrow bunk stirred briefly, then settled back into slumber. A small green stone set into the restraint collar around his neck winked gently in the dim light.

"You see news stories about him sometimes," Ianto continued, drawing closer. "The Man of Steel. Reckon if they didn't have them they'd need Torchwood, what with all the mischief Metropolis seems to fall into."

"Point taken," Jack said, and it was: Ianto was subtly reminding him that with Superman in a cell in Torchwood's underground lair, Metropolis was more or less laid bare for the taking. Oh, there were a handful of others who could help, but Superman was out. And Batman was apparently missing from Gotham, which may or may not have been coincidence; given Superman had attacked Gotham, who knew if Batman was even alive.

10:39 pm All the Stars in the Sky by Shane Mayhem (PG13)
Title: All the Stars in the Sky
Fandom: Torchwood
Characters: Jack/Diane
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shane_mayhem
Author Website: Fic
Why this must be read:

This is set after Children of Earth and in the words of the author, "Some time after the end of Jack's world, he realizes that things just keep going."

This is a very clever tale that utilizes a character that appeared only briefly in Season One, but is so skillfully developed and interwoven here that it becomes not only plausible, but inevitable.

Also, this is not a fix-it fic. This is a harsh reality and deals with broken people who still have to function.

Excerpt: Someday, he will know all their names.

Someday, he will speak those names as they all burn out before him, one by one.

That day is not today, though. The stars are still mysteries, most of them, though he's visited the systems of more of them than he cares to remember. Today--although he knows from personal experience that one day all of the stars and the currents between them, the winds of the vacuum of space and the gravitational pull of black holes and nebulae, will be mapped and named like the streams and currents of Earth's oceans-- today he can still feel a desolate ache when he looks at the vastness of space. Like a limitless horizon, it calls to him. Old sailor.

11:41 pm What To Expect When You're SuperExpecting by Het Up (K+)
Fandom: DCU
Pairing: Clark/Lois
Length: 1,511 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Het Up at FFN
Why this must be read:

The summary of this fic says it all really:

Clark and Lois try to get pregnant. At the same time, they try Batman's patience. Multitasking is fun.

The basic idea of this fic would be amusing enough in itself but the author so seamlessly melds such a normal problem with the extraordinary circumstances of superhero life into a truly delightful oneshot. It's a short read but a marvelously funny one. If you still don't belive me read the excerpt:
