Vidder: requiemx43 Musical artist: The Cinematic Orchestra Pairings/Characters: Mulder/Scully Vidder on LJ: Unknown Vidder’s website: Vidder's ProfileWhy this vid kicks ass:Oh, there are ever so many good reasons to watch this vid. First, the song... perfect; "To Build a Home," just seems like a Mulder/Scully song. Second, the vidder has a very deft hand at putting the right clips, at the right pace to the music, the video flows together very nicely. And too, everything just fits together seamlessly... For example, just watch at around 0:53 and you will see what I mean. Finally, the vidder has just the right way of taking a seemingly simple concept and giving it depth and feeling, there are no flashy effects getting in the way of the vidder's perfect skill for conveying the right mood and feel, it is simply there. Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Mostly gen, a bit of Kaylee/Bester Length: words Author on LJ: loveflyfreeAuthor Website: just her lj Why this must be read: This is a great character piece for Kaylee; I love the way loveflyfree explores Kaylee from so many angles, adding texture using the lenses of different fairytales and alternate possibilities. Also, seeing Kaylee's relationship with Serenity contrasted to Mal's is quite interesting---and presenting that point of commonality with the added layer of fairytale vs. reality is an unexpectedly meaningful and satisfying twist that stikes me heart-deep in all the right ways. Vidder: kricketsMusical artist: 50 Cent Pairing: I think any and every canon pairing makes it in here, as well as some fanon ones Vidder on LJ: kricketsVidder's website: Her vid tagWhy this vid kicks ass: I agonized about which vid to choose out of all the excellent ones I've seen this year, but ultimately I think this one probably has most universal appeal. It's a shot of pure, concentrated awesome - a celebration of nearly every character on the show, and a reminder that when they're not angsting their little hearts out or crying in paint, the Battlestar crew are certified BAMFs. Excellent recruitment vid. :D Battlestar Inferno

Fandom: Due South Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski Length: 230 words Author on LJ: spratAuthor Website: Sprat’s Fanfiction Why this must be read: ds_recsredux is another one of my favorite places to find fic. Members are able to rec fics by theme, and how awesome is a community you can go to for a whole bunch of rimming recs! Which is exactly how I found today's rec. I realized I had been ignoring the porn this month and since Due South has some wonderful porn I decided to rectify that. I don't real a lot of stories that are categorized as PWP, but this is fic is much more than that. I've read it several times and somehow it keeps getting hotter. But it also has wonderful characterization that makes it a fic clearly about Ray and Fraser instead of a generic PWP. ( Excerpt ) Cuffs

Vidder: margotgabriele Musical Artist: Unknown (If you do know who sang it, please comment!) Pairing: Clark/Lois Vidder on LJ: kalalanekentVidder's website: YouTube ProfileWhy this vid kicks ass:I'm not a huge fan of four minute long vids that are just a love song and a ship. I don't have the patience for them. Fortunately this vid manages to be short, entertaining, shippy and makes you laugh. The song itself is amusing (unfortunately not even the vidder knows where it's from) but the clips put to the music really make it feel like the singer could have seen the vid first then sung the song to fit it instead of the other way around. In short: the Clois relationship in one, easy to swallow, very entertaining video. The Lois Lane Song

Vidder: kristin1228 Musical artist: Gary Numan Pairing: mostly about Nick but there's also Nick/Janette and a sprinkling of Nick/Natalie Vidder on LJ: kristin1228 Vidder's website: Forever Knight Music VideosWhy this vid kicks ass: Kristin has a gift for making some visually stunning videos and this one is no exception. Nick's struggles with his vampiric past are exquisitely highlighted, as are the gothic, dark, and disturbing imagery from the show. It's a longish vid but there's so much to see in it that it's hard to get bored with it. In A Dark Placevidder's YouTube link

Fandom: FOREVER KNIGHT Pairing: Natalie Lambert/Lucien LaCroix Length: 18,150 words Author on LJ: n/a Author Website: Klytaimnestra's SiteWhy this must be read: For me there's something very intriguing about Natalie/LaCroix. These two should never be together but the idea of them together appeals to a twisted part of the brain. I love the idea of those two characters butting heads but I never quite crossed the line into thinking of the two of them engaging in anything other than a meeting of the minds. However because Klytaimnestra's writing is so engaging I decided to give this story a try. I liked it. It's interesting. Set just prior to the series finale, LaCroix is still reeling from his recent personal loss and Natalie has come to some conclusions regarding her relationship with Nick and his commitment to his current incarnation. It just goes to show that competent, engaging writers can make unusual scenarios work. Cold Comfort by Klytaimnestra( Excerpt )

Fandom: FOREVER KNIGHT Pairing: Tracy/Vachon Length: 522 words Author on LJ: n/a Author Website: fanfiction archived hereWhy this must be read: Tracy Vetter had the unenviable task of replacing Don Schanke as Nick's partner in the third and final season. That was her professional role. Personally, her quasi romantic relationship with the transient vampire Vachon left Tracy emotionally affected, despite the their obvious differences. This fic explores Tracy's state of mind in the days after Vachon's "departure" and her coping methods that are uniquely Tracy. It's a short, heartbreaking and effective songfic Keeping it Together by Ell Hase( Excerpt )

Fandom: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL Pairing: Chad/Ryan (Ryan/OCs) Length: 1,180 words Author on LJ: hinshack Author Website: Livejournal Why this must be read: This fic is sparse and kind of beautiful, and it strips some of the polish off of High School Musical and its characters without making them unsympathetic or unrecognizable. 'Senior year, figuring things out' fics are a staple of this pairing, but hinshack makes it prickly-new. ( Excerpt )Go. Read. Love. Fandom: FOREVER KNIGHT Pairing: gen, Natalie, Janette Length: 3202 words Author on LJ: fickitten Author Website: forever knight fic tag on ljWhy this must be read: This story could effortlessly slip into season 1 canon and it offers some fantastic interaction between Janette and Natalie. The tension between the two is not one of danger but of two women slowly discovering fascinating elements about each other and themselves. In the series their common link was Nick and their love of him but by the story's end, the two ladies quickly realize that they could genuinely be friends. Fandom: FOREVER KNIGHT Pairing: Nick/Other Length: 3101words Author on LJ: brightknightie Author Website: Bright Knight: Amy's FK FictionWhy this must be read: Natalie as a vampire is an interesting genre in Forever Knight fanfiction. With it comes the potential to explore scenarios with Nick and Natalie as a couple, Natalie as a member of Nick's vampire family--namely LaCroix's role, and the complications of the heart that arise when immortality causes lovers to grow in and out of love. With this story, Amy R. asks the question: What kind of existence would a vampiric Natalie have if she was forced to face eternity alone without Nick, knowing that she can't follow him back to mortality. It has a melancholic mood and the scenario is one I haven't seen explored by another author. Be on the look out for a fantastic ironic twist in that the one thing that made it possible for a mortal Natalie to be allowed into Nick's vampire world as a spectator, is the one thing that traps her in that world forever. And the ending...chilling. Last Minutes by Amy R.( Excerpt )
