Fandom: THE X-FILES Pairing: Mulder/Scully friendship Length: 167K Author on LJ: aslownightAuthor Website: Author's Page at GossamerWhy this must be read: There is an episode arc in the third season of The X-Files known as "the rift" or "the tiff," if you are British, where Mulder and Scully appear not to be getting along all that well. Kel has set this story in third season, so I think you could make an argument that it's unofficially rift fic. Despite that ominous description, it is that rarest of prizes: a genfic casefile that fits into canon, which still has the Mulder/Scully partnership at its center, and is written by an author who likes both of the characters! It's mostly vintage Kel: snappy dialogue, intricate plotting, with a side order of political/social satire. The Lone Gunmen all play pivotal roles in this story, too. Oh! I nearly left out the best part: in a truly memorable and luminous sequence, Mulder and Scully journey to the "lower world," and get to meet their spirit guides. This would have made a great episode, with its perfect mixture of humor, murder, and mysticism. Read Angular Momentum

Hi, I'm thady, your driver for the Harry Potter van for may. I'm sorry for the late start, I've had trouble receiving comments from LJ. Fandom: HARRY POTTER Pairing: none, Dumbledore with Snape, Tom Riddle and Grindelwald mentioned Length: ~ 2,000 words Author on LJ: googlebratAuthor Website: none that I know of Why this must be read:This is a wonderful character study of Dumbledore, showing him during the pivotal scenes of his life and how he grew and changed. I love how human he is here, so arrogant and brilliant and flawed. I can't remember to have read a better portrayal of Dumbledore. Truly extraordinary. ( snippet )If I Wrote You

Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: Arthur/Merlin/Gwen/Morgana Length: 15k Author on LJ: imperfectcircleAuthor Website: Fic at A03Why this must be read:This is the OT4 fic. It takes the concept of a marriage between four people from the Ursula le Guin novel The Birthday of the World, but don't worry if you haven't read the book. I haven't, but within the context of the fic it makes perfect sense. More than that, the characterisation is perfect, the relationships between all four characters are brilliantly drawn and there's a wonderfully snarky Merlin pov. In the time it took Gwen to recover, Merlin learned that Arthur's displeasure was nothing as to the trouble caused by Uther's glee.
Everything had to be polished. Everything. Parts of the castle that Merlin had never even seen before turned out to have whole rooms of things that needed polishing. Whole wings of things. And with the constant threat of people poking their heads round corners to find new things to polish, he had to do his share by hand. It was Merlin's own personal hell.
"Oh, hello," said Imogen, poking her head round a corner just as Merlin was starting to convince himself no one would notice a little bit of magic, done discretely.
Merlin smiled his greeting. Perhaps she'd help him with the polishing.
"Sorry about all this nonsense," Imogen said, waving a hand at the gleaming and soon to be gleaming silverware. "If I'd known--"
"I know," Merlin said. Then again, she was nobility, and nobility had this nasty habit of thinking polishing was beyond them, some sort of arcane knowledge available only to the most privileged servants. And oh, what a privilege it was. An Ever-Fixed Mark
