Vampires! They're all the rage now, but least you forgot, Tray's Dust will remind you that vampires are not your friend, no matter what they tell you. This is a well written story that contrasts the immortality of vampires and Immortals.

Dust is a book length story about love, loneliness, and betrayal. Methos is abducted and held by a vampire. Duncan MacLeod, desperate to rescue him, must make a deal with a vampire's bhendh (minion longing to become a vampire.) Joe assists MacLeod as best he can, but in the end it is Duncan who must risk his life to save Methos. Compelling original characters.

Why this must be read:
There were several things that I took issue with towards the end of the season, and one of those things was Gibbs treatment of Ducky in Patriot Down. I always felt that his behavior was bad even by Gibbs standards.
Ashleigh Anpilova gives us this nice episode tag that reveals all of the things that Gibbs should have said to Ducky. It is not super long, but it conveys powerful emotions in its 500 words. It is beautifully written and Gibbs' pain over his treatment of Ducky is tangible. I hope you enjoy it.

I love the two-parter Human Nature/Family of Blood, and had a huge problem trying to decide which of my two favorite HN/FoB fics to rec this month.  Ultimately, I had to flip a coin--they're both really good.  In the episode, aliens want to capture the Tenth Doctor to use him to extend their brief lifespans; he decides to hide as a human named John Smith to fool them, with his Time Lord consciousness and memories hidden in a fob watch.  The cover the Tardis finds for him is as a professor at a boarding school for boys in 1914 England.  Martha, being black, is forced to get work as his maid so she can stay close enough to him to keep an eye on him and help him become himself again when the danger is over.  Unfortunately, the aliens find them, and John Smith (the Doctor's human self) falls in love with the school nurse.  In the episode, Martha figures out who the aliens are posing as and convinces the Doctor to become himself again in time to save the day.

But what if it didn't happen that way?  What if John Smith stayed John Smith, with only vague dreams of ever having been something different?  What would have had to happen to create that reality, and what would John Smith's life be like?
