01:36 am Whatever Remains, However Improbable by otahyoni (PG-13)
Hi all! I'm [livejournal.com profile] duh_i_read  and I'll be driving the sleek black Dollhouse van this month. Like a curious mixtape, I'll be offering an eclectic variety of stories from my fandom, hopefully something for old fans and new ones alike.

Fandom: DOLLHOUSE
Pairing: Victor/Sierra, Ivy, Topher
Length: 6K
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] otahyoni
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] yonwords  is [livejournal.com profile] otahyoni 's writing journal.

Why this must be read:

Dollhouse meets Sherlock Homes as Victor and Sierra are sent on an engagement as Watson and Homes, respectively. An brilliant fusion, the Victor/Sierra paring is very bittersweet here with excellent Ivy and Topher character voices. The story could have been cut right out of cannon.

Truthfully, what isn't made more awesome by mixing in a little Sherlock Homes?

06:48 am Momma Said There’d Be Days Like This by Crowswork (R)
Hi there! I’m back after a long hiatus. It’s summer where I am -- perfect for a long leisurely road trip. I hope you enjoy journey

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: some het sex, not involving Jim or Blair
Length: 157K
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: at Wolfpup’s Den

Why this must be read: Great pacing, a good meaty case, sentinel and guide threatened and an old enemy resurfacing. What more could you ask?

Blair has been coerced into chaperoning a local anthropology field trip. He wakes to a wintry morning but soon finds more to worry about than staying warm – he discovers three of the students have been murdered and the men who did it are coming after him. Thus begins a day filled with terror and mystery that envelops Jim, Blair and those closest to them.

Crowswork wrote this in the style of “24”, so the action clips right along. The reveal of who’s behind the convoluted series of crimes is satisfying, as is the resolution. “Momma Said” is the most recent offering of this talented writer. If she’s new to you, I suggest you check out some of her other stories. And, of course, send her some feedback! Enjoy.

Hello everyone! I'm [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and I will be driving the due South Van this month! I'll try to get a good mix in here of different pairings and characters.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Length: 2551
Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Author Website: capella_fic fic tag
Why this must be read: I loved this story the first time I read it because I had never read anything quite like it. The entire story is told from the perspective of one of Benton's teachers and was written for the [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] school challenge. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] really captures how much she worries about him and wants him to have the life he deserves. The reader also finds out quite a bit about the characters created to be the teacher and her husband in few words.

03:31 pm Here Be Dragons by Selena (PG-13)
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Gen; Kilgarrah (The Great Dragon)
Length: 4,379
Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Author Website: Collected Fanfiction Post
Why this must be read:

This is the story of the dragons. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] has written such a compelling piece about their myths and legends, the creation of humankind, and the origin of magic. It serves as the perfect back-story to the tv series, and is one that everyone should read.

Everything begins, they say, with the oath of a dragon.

11:06 pm Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking by Troll Princess (PG)
Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: Gen; Hiro Nakamura
Length: 1,500
Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read:

Because this author does an excellent job showing Hiro's travels through time and space. He's older and wiser, trying so hard to fix things to make sure the apocalyptic future he lives in never comes to pass. Hiro's interactions with Nathan and Claire are just perfect, as are his views on his past self. Bleak and tragic, yet oddly hopeful in the end, this piece is the kind of character study I love reading in fandom.

-- and he's in New York again.

11:59 pm Error in Judgement by Tim Scott (R)
Hi! My name's Emily/[livejournal.com profile] brooklynmili, and I'm driving the van for X-Files this month. I mostly read MSR and gen, so that's most of what I'll be reccing this month.

For my first rec, let's go old school...

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully (?)
Length: ~4500 words (that's a one-shot for me)
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: Via Wayback
Why this must be read:

After reading Tim Scott's The Third Wish early in my time in fandom, I immediately went looking for more from him. Sadly, he never archived anything at Gossamer, so I was stuck, until I found a link to his old site, which is still accessible by Wayback. Though I think all of his work is interesting, I like this one for a number of reasons. It's set immediately post-Gethsemane, in the obvious AU where Mulder is actually dead, and Scully is actually going to die. Not only is this a scenario totally worth pursuing, it also enables us to see a Scully with nothing left to lose, who can play by her own rules at the end of her life. And this Scully is an avenging angel with a .22 Ruger, one who is willing to go to extremes to be allowed to die peacefully, totally unwilling to compromise with the devil. This is the Scully who rose out of the ashes of season 4, and it's amazing to see her at full strength. There is also something very compelling in Cancerman's realization that he's been banking on the wrong half of the pairing all along--because he's absolutely right.

Warning: this story is not for the faint of heart, and features graphic violence in addition to sexual allusions.
