12:15 am A Story For The Times - Beach by Annie K (G)
I like Alexander Waverly. I know that some see him as superfluous or as a convenient bad guy or just as some worrying old grandma, but I like his paternal watch over our boys and his indulgence of them and his mischievous getting the girl out from under Napoleon’s nose every so often. And I like his devotion to an ideal. So let’s tour past some Alexander-centric stories, shall we?

Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Alexander Waverly no pairing
Length: Short and Sweet
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] akane42me
Author Website: at her journal in Memories
Why this must be read: Sadly, this is the only story by Annie K that I can find, but I love her view. She sees Alexander the Idealist, Alexander the Hopeful, and maybe just a little bit, Alexander the Realist. Our boys make an appearance at the end. I hope y’all enjoy!

02:46 am Tuesday's Child: Lessons of Grace by Joy K (PG)
Fandom: MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: None
Length: 356k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] joyful_noiz
Author Website: The author's stories listed on Blackraptor
Why this must be read: Between this story and the previous one in the series, Joy K did a breath-taking job of filling in the blanks for the boys' histories in the ATF AU. One interesting thing about ATF, Ezra pointedly is not corrupt, a marked departure from canon. Yet his mother still very much is. Here Joy explains exactly how someone "raised" by a gold-digging narcissist turned into a federal agent with a strong, though sometimes hidden, sense of morality. And she centers it around a truly great OFC who has no romantic designs on anyone.

The emotions are strong in this one. It's both heart-breaking and heart-warming. I must have read it half a dozen times.

10:45 am Next Time I Fall by Ambular (PG-13)
I don't typically rec two stories by the same author, but I happen to love both the previous rec and this one, and sometimes it's nice to explore older stories that many of us may have missed if we haven't been around the fandom that long.

Fandom: GOOD OMENS
Pairing: Aziraphale/Crowley (implied)
Length: 8071 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] amberdiceless
Author Website: Stories at the Good Omens Library
Why this must be read: We all know the demon Crowley as "an Angel who did not so much Fall as saunter vaguely downward." However, this story takes a closer look at what exactly the Fall was and what it meant for those that rebelled. Where this story really shines is in its depiction of the actual Fall and the landscape of Hell, seen by Aziraphale when he inadvertently stumbles into one of Crowley's nightmares. Although that section of the overall fic is short, it's told with such vividness that the images will stay with you and give you an entirely different view of the Crowley we know.

One of the interesting things about being an earth-bound angel was that, even after thousands of years, Aziraphale occasionally discovered things he hadn't known he could do. )

Don't forget to feedback the author - it doesn't matter how old or new the story is. Authors love to hear from you!

07:37 pm From Black to Green by Queenriley (PG)
Fandom: POWER RANGERS
Pairing: Adam/Rocky
Length: one-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] queenriley
Author Website: Fic Index
Why this must be read: One of the things I love about PR fic is the exploration of the little moments that make the show - how do the Rangers feel about changing their colors? How do they manage to get a whole new color wardrobe every time they switch colors? And of course, how do Rocky and Adam find time to be together? This adorable fic managed to answer all of these questions, and is just a really cute look at one of my all time favorite pairings.

07:47 pm Fangirl!Frannie by: innocentsmith (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Frannie/fandom, Frannie/Elaine, references to Fraser/Kowalski, Vecchio/Stella, and Thatcher/Turnbull
Length: 1,333 words
Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Author Website: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s dS tag
Why this must be read: Do you ever wonder what would happen if Frannie got into fandom? [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s story both plausibly explains that and keeps the feel of a due South episode at the same time. The whole story had me rolling on the floor with laughter while trying to read more because it was just that good. This one was originally written for a [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] prompt and has quickly taken over as one of my favorite dS stories ever. If nothing else everyone should read this story for this alone RPF - Canadian Explorers.

07:53 pm Loyalty by lastling (15)
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Uther/Nimueh
Length: ~650
Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Author Website: fiction master list
Why this must be read:

Nimueh's bitterness and hatred of Uther has always fascinated me in the tv series, and this short one-shot explores exactly why their relationship is the way it is.

Uther says he will repair the city, make it gleam in the light again, but he cannot repair the people.

Some scars run too deep.

11:34 pm time, like sand, in the palm of your hand by softly_me (PG13)

Fandom: DOLLHOUSE
Pairing: Bennett/Caroline
Length: 784
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] softly_me
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] law_like_love (Writing Journal)
Why this must be read:

Bennett/Caroline is almost cannon in the way DeWitt/Dominic is almost cannon: rife with subtext and never a clear answer as to what went on in behind the scenes.  'time, like sand' explores the heavy subtext of  the few B/C flashbacks in the show. Here, pre-series Caroline has softer intentions then is suggested in the show, made more bittersweet as we know exactly how it ends between them.

What I also love about this story is the use of second person, which isn't for everyone, but works well here to take us inside Caroline's head and her often hard to pin down motivation.
