Why this must be read: We all have lists - things we have to do, things we want to do. Crowley has a list, too, and as they're counting down to the End of Days, he's doing his best to get through everything on it (although the list changes as they go along and with input from Aziraphale: "Well, you're not doing that. Or that. And if you actually did try telling Gabriel exactly what you thought of him, I assure you, my dear, everyone would die a lot more quickly than you otherwise would.")

What I really like about this story is that it's so much more than the list. There's a narrative thread underpinning the entire story and woven through the list so that it's more than simply checking off accomplishments - it's how the characters feel and think about those things, what they're afraid of, what they want, and why they choose to do things. It's a story of friendship and regret and trying to change things that seem inevitable (or at least, Ineffable). It's not slash, but it doesn't have to be - the friendship is wonderfully characterized and carries the story without feeling like you're missing anything at all. And Crowley's list might surprise you ...

Swim with dolphins - 'Why do they want to swim with an animal whose only thought in life is how to convince someone to give it another fish?' )

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 4732 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read: Jennifer doesn't write very many stories that I know of, but I've liked the two or three I have read very much. I first encountered this one in the VegaSH con zine last year (I had to ask her to post it on line so I could rec it) and was sucked in immediately. It's fun, sexy and kinky. This has all of my favorite things, sex against a wall, erotic heat, a little dominance, and a happy ending. Starsky and Hutch are enjoying themselves every bit as much as the reader will be.

08:49 pm Five Senses Slash Virtual Seasons by various authors (G to NC-17)

Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: episode-length
Author on LJ:
Series  Website:  Five Senses Home Page

Why this must be read: Because it’s a gold mine for anyone who misses the episodic setup of the show.

Although I like a wide variety of genres, I really enjoy a good case story. After all, Jim and Blair always had *something* to solve each week, in between all the eating and touching! In reviewing some candidates, I realized many of them were originally part of the Slash Virtual Seasons series. Way back in 2000, a group of authors decided to continue where the show left off. They wrote episodes that built on each other and had holiday special stories just for fun.

11:27 pm To Kill the King by allothi (PG-13)
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Gen; Tauren, others
Length: 3,855

Why this must be read:

This story is a fascinating read as the author really brings these characters to life as she explores how these men came to this point and their dreams of a free Camelot where magic could be practiced openly. Even during the episode I sympathized with what Tauren and the others where trying to accomplish, and after reading this piece I fell in love with them and their ideals even more.
