There are a lot of fics that deal with the emotional fallout of "Twilight" but I always find myself returning to this piece for the strength of her characterization, the raw reality in how the author deals with the consequences of Ari's actions. It feels real to me when I read it. It feels like the missing scenes of the episode that should have been there. Be sure to have plenty of tissue on hand when you read this. I've read it at least a couple of dozen times and I still cry my eyes out.
Numb. He knew he was numb. His first thought after Kate went down had been to protect Gibbs then to preserve the scene until another team arrived. His boss dealt with Ducky... and the Director... then put out an all points bulletin on Ari. Then Tony helped to lift his friend, his co-worker, still warm, into the body bag. Watched as the zipper was closed. He had wanted to help carry her down the steps but Ducky held him back... held McGee and Gibbs back.
