Length: short

Why this must be read: This alternate ending to TPM is simple, but it works, and beautifully so. And of course, this is the ending George Lucas should have given us *g*.
This story was part of the Party Like it's 1999 Ficathon which celebrated the 10th anniversary of TPM (and Q/O!)  Authors wrote stories based on certain prompts.  In Answers, Luv Ewan takes on canon and the prompt of forbidden love.

Sorry it's late! I was without internet for a few days.

Title: Look at us we're beautiful
Pairing: Misha Collins/Adam Lambert
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee
Author Website: Fic Tag
Why this must be read:

Though the pairing seems a tad cracky at first, the author places them in a plausible situation where the two might meet (we all know Misha has been to Burning Man) and the way the author writes Misha is fascinating. The story itself is smoking (heh, pun not intended) hot and incredibly sexy, while the prose is poetic.

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Tony/Gibs
Length: 4K
Author on LJ: http://xanthestories.livejournal.com/
Author Website: http://www.xanthe.org/
Why this must be read:

In a way I feel like I’m cheating with this one as the author (Xanthe) has been on here more than once in the past year and because this story was on the NCIS fanfiction awards under comedy. But this is a wonderful, hilarious story that really needs to be read if you haven’t already. And if you have – hey, I’ve read it at least 3 times. Technically its an AU where magic can happen but since the only magic in the story concerns Tony, I’d say its more about the humor. And who hasn’t imagined Tony as a Golden Retriever? But its what happens after he turns back that is even funnier. (See the sequel for that – bottom of the story page. NOTE: the sequel is not PG.)

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Dean/Castiel, Sam/Ruby (non-explicit)
Length: ~ 23,470 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock
Author Website: Fic at Archive of Our Own
Why this must be read: It's probably been on a thousand rec lists already, but it's hands-down one of the best AUs in the fandom for this pairing. With appearances by most of our favourite supporting characters (Ellen, Bobby, Jo, Sam, Ruby), the story casts Dean as a child protective services worker and Cas as the widowed pediatrician who is Dean's best friend. The occasion that sets everything in motion is Sam's wedding to Ruby, and Dean has to deal with his feelings about Sam's previous addiction (drugs, not demon blood), the girl who got him hooked, and the fact he hasn't always been able to save Sam. It's both a story of friendship deepening into love, and of redemption for mistakes that can't be undone. It's family and forgiveness with all the quirks, and it's guaranteed to make you smile.

If you haven't read it yet, you're in for a treat. If you have, you know exactly what I mean.

Out of nowhere Cas says, 'Lori explained to me this is called 'eating your pain.'' )

06:52 pm How to Fight Loneliness Series by madlori (R)
Fandom: CRIMINAL MINDS
Pairing: Prentiss/Reid
Length: Novel-size, really
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] madlori
Author Website: Criminal minds fic list on LJ
Why this must be read:

This is another 'I don't like X but you made me love it!' story. This time, X stands for heterosexual relationships, something I have to admit I barely read. This series, nonetheless, is one I'm glad I read, because [livejournal.com profile] madlori is an amazing, amazing writer that fleshes her stories with a multitude of details and has the ability to write entirely believable case!fics, which is always a plus for me :D. She is also one of those ficcers that can handle a fic with a Main Plot and many Sub Plots, and that subtly drops hints everywhere, giving the reader an 'aha!' moment (actually, many 'aha!' moments) and a sense of fulfillment as the end approaches. This is, definitely, one of my 5 Favorite All Times Criminal Minds fics.

Part One: How to Fight Loneliness <-- Chapter 01 of 40
Part Two: Perspectives on a Romance <-- Chapter 01 of 09
Part Three: Casefiles of Mr. Prentiss and Mrs. Genius
Three point One: Mr. Prentiss & Mrs. Genius and the Frantic Friend <-- Chapter 01 of 03
Three point Two:Mr. Prentiss & Mrs. Genius and the Mysterious Manuscript <-- Chapter 01 of 04
Part Four: Closure <-- Chapter 01 of 01
Part Five: Genius at Work <-- Chapter 01 of 15

Also, I know I should only rec a fic or series per post, but if you like How to Fight Loneliness, I suggest reading [livejournal.com profile] madlori's other story, linked in her fic archive; it is completely amazing too.

08:00 pm Trial Run by Ellis Ward (R)
Fandom:THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: 239k
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author website: Ellis Ward at the Circuit Archive
Why this must be read:
Because she takes a premise that really shouldn’t work at all, but does like gangbusters. Bodie has a confessions to make, and despite everything Doyle thinks he knows about his own sexual orientation, he cannot give up the partnership. So he proposes a ‘trail run’ at a romantic entanglement with his partner.

A truly fascinating read, Ellis Ward handles the emotions with her usual flair for heart minus the dramatics, and keeps the tension and interest up as the lads wrestle with both the change in their relationship and the usual chaotic pace of life at CI5.

He and Bodie had stood shoulder-to-shoulder against all the mayhem the world chose to offer, their own mortality at the whim of grisly-humoured Fate. They'd learnt to live with that, and to make do with the snatched comfort of faceless warm bodies and ephemeral affection, with the not inconsiderable support of their friendship underlying all else.

But Doyle had come to want more, even though he was pragmatic enough to see that he could never have it -- not and be who he was. He'd tried it once and failed humiliatingly. There was simply no one who could understand the demands of their job and the paradoxical emotions it gave birth to -- a need for absolution and approbation.

Except Bodie.
