Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon Solo / Illya Kuryakin
Length: 19 KB
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] meris
Author Website: Her work is archived at The Chrome and Gunmetal Madhouse
Why this must be read: This story is literally holster porn. Yes indeed, Illya's glorious black leather holster is front and center and the focus of Napoleon's attention when he realizes that his seriously over-tired Russian is only wearing that erotic piece of equipment under an over-sized sweater as he maneuvers him back to their apartment. *Fans self* It doesn't get hotter than this.

Fandom: STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE
Pairing: Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Length: 130k
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown, but her stories are archived at Jedi Masters and Apprentices
Why this must be read: I love Artemis’ stories and this one is a favorite. It breaks from canon in that Obi-Wan was never Qui-Gon's apprentice, rather they meet for the first time when Obi-Wan is already a knight, serving as the Knight Protector of a small, secluded Jedi Temple Qui-Gon is visiting. I love the descriptions of the forest planet, and the way the plot builds as the relationship unfolds. Angst, love, and the dark side of the Force are all at play here.  One of Artemis' best.

12:21 pm The Other End of The Line by Pamela Rose
Fandom:STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing:Hutch and Starsky
Length:long
Author on LJ:unknown
Author Websitehttp://starskyhutcharchive.com/stories.php?genre=slash:

Why this must be read:

This story is a sequel to "Alternate" by Pam Rose. Author's Note: This is a warning to anyone who cares to heed it. The "POV" in this story, as usual, bounces around with as much determination as those tennis balls at Wimbledon—to borrow a slick phrase from a reviewer. In my S/H stories, everyone has balls! This is a great series and it is worth reading. I am just surprised that they hadn't been rec'ced before this.

Starsky hung up the phone with a frown. Weird, definitely weird. He tucked the report back into the folder, absently noting the mustard stain on the cover. He'd have to get a new one before he turned this in or Minnie would have his balls.

Kathy had emerged from the bathroom a moment before and was now in the kitchen. She came back with two glasses of wine. Starsky accepted his and sipped it thoughtfully.

"What was that all about?"

"Huh? What?"

"Was that Hutch on the phone?"

"Uh, yeah. He needed some information."

"Naturally. Every time I'm here he needs something. If I didn't know better, I'd think he was jealous."

Starsky hardly heard what she was saying. He nodded blankly, still studying the mustard stain on the manila folder.

She chuckled. "Are you agreeing with me or ignoring me?"

He started. "Oh...sorry. I was thinking about something else."

"Obviously." She snuggled closer. "Want to start thinking about me now?"

02:57 pm Tin Soldier by unoshot (PG-13)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Gen - no pairing (Sam, Dean, Castiel)
Length: ~ 13,232 words

Author Website: Sticky Post: Master Fic List
Why this must be read: I only recently came across this story, and it's wonderful. A solid case-story after Dean's return from Hell, this fic has the boys (and Castiel) on the trail of someone who's raising the dead. It's one of the most atmospheric stories I've read: there's the cloying smell of decaying chrysanthemums and the graveyard chill Dean can't shake, and something terrible always just ahead of them that's strong enough to hurt even an angel. The three characters work wonderfully together, and Dean's POV reveals a lot about how he thinks, what he feels, and the things that haunt his thoughts. A fabulously creepy story with a dark touch of humour - just in time for Halloween.

Fandom: Merlin
Pairings: Merlin/Arthur (pre slash), Arthur/Gwen, Arthur/Morgana
Length: 5,677 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] valderys
Why this must be read: There's a zombie usurper, Shakespearian dialogue and ghostly kings. There's Lancelot and Guilderstein, slightly mad Arthur and a delightful Merlin. I thoroughly enjoyed this author's take on Hamlet written for [livejournal.com profile] reel_merlin and hope you do too.

"Look at this," said Arthur, all enthusiasm, "This was Gorlois' skull, e'en he. Alas, poor Gorlois, I knew him, Merlin."

"I should bloody well hope so, you've lived here all your life. Are you sure it's sanitary holding up a skull like that?"

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair (this is pre-slash rather than slash)
Length: 15240 words
Author on LJ: not known
Author Website: http://www.852prospect.org/
Why this must be read: - This is another AU - what can I say, I like AUs! Jim is at a US Embassy in Peru, and is trapped when it collapses in an earthquake.

Blair is in a SAR canine unit commanded by Simon.

There are two levels in this story; one the search for people trapped by the quake, the other the telepathic communication between the trapped Jim and Blair who is frantically searching for other survivors while working his way towards the Embassy. Yes, there's some mysticism in this story too, another element that I always enjoy; and a reworking of a canon incident to fit the parameters of this universe. Very smoothly handled.

Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Zoe/Wash
Length: 1772
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] mosca
Why this must be read:
This lovely little fic is set at least a year before the pilot episode and is told from Zoe's point of view. She talks about her love for Wash and how surprising it is for her. There's also a sub story line about her beginning friendship with Kaylee. This story paints a perfect picture of just how Zoe lands her man and gains a new friend.

Spoiler under here. )

Fandom: CRIMINAL MINDS
Pairing: Jennifer 'JJ' Jareau, gen
Length: ~10,140
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] scarimor
Author Website: Criminal Minds' tag on LJ
Why this must be read:

This fic is a case!fic. It also is a crossover with Las Vegas CSI, but you don't need to know a thing about that show to understand the story. Although all of the team plays a part, the main character is JJ. Inevitably, on every procedural show sooner or later an episode will use the "one of the main characters is accused of a crime" plot; Criminal Minds has certainly done so. In this fic, the accused character is JJ, which makes the story more interesting because, as it is implied, she certainly is in a position where she could hide any case from the team of she wished to. What makes this story interesting is the setup, how JJ is framed, and why; the OC are well played too, as is JJ. There are not many case!fics where she takes the central spot, which makes this story special in that regard.

Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Characters: Amanda, Joe, Duncan
Length: 15,400 words
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author Website: Author's page on Seventh Dimension
Why this must be read:

Normally I find my recs to be very Methos-centric, but this story is focused on Duncan MacLeod. Told from the unusual point of view of a former Hunter, it takes the concept of the Methuselah Stone in an unexpected direction.
