FANDOM:  DUE SOUTH
Pairing:  Vecchio/Turnbull, with Turnbull gen, Vecchio gen, Thatcher gen, Frannie gen, and Welsh gen
Authors on LJ:  [livejournal.com profile] slwatson , [livejournal.com profile] kalijean

Why this must be read:

First the authors get props for writing a rare pairing, then for managing to follow COTW canon closely while also remaining very plausible.  But what really makes this 'verse a must-read are the character studies, of course.  Vecchio's post-Vegas trauma is handled with sensitivity, and Turnbull gets some very intriguing backstory.  Their relationship progresses slowly, sweetly, and naturally.

Sorry to be late for the Cross-Over day of the month; I'm just back from my Autumn short vacation in the country, with family and all the related time consuming stuff; my apologies...

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS/THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Bodie/Illya Kuryakin, Bodie/Doyle
Length: Short Story
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jj_minerva
Author Website: Archive of Our Own
Why this must be read:

Actually I was thinking of not to rec any story as cross-over for it's not exactly my cup of tea and I had a lot of difficulty to find one that wouldn't be recced already. A little by chance I found this one, which has the advantage of connecting my two main fandoms: "The Professionals" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E". I know we have many fans in common, so it should please some of you.

This is in a way a "formation" story: the formation of a partnership (in more ways than one) for Bodie and Doyle and, by means of flash-backs, a tale about the formative years of young Bodie, still a - not too successful - merc in Africa, rescued from his Congolese jail by an enigmatic Russian. Ten years later, in another world, in another life, their paths are bound to meet again as their respective missions collide. Bodie's assignment is clear, or seems to be so, but what is Kuryakin's? Will they resume their former relations? But what were those relations, by the way? And what are their present missions? Maybe only Cowley knows...

To say the honest truth, that's not the way I see the characters, personally: notably Bodie and Illya and, to my taste, Cowley, like U.N.C.L.E, appears to play a strange and dubious game here, but to each his one: the junction of the two universes is fairly well made and the plot has got ideas. They could have been more developed, especially on U.N.C.L.E's side.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 12K

Why this must be read:...

The first time I read this story was just before the Weekend in the Country con in August of 2000. It came to my inbox via the SXF mailing list and I was impressed. It was a hot, urgent story, a play on Blair-survives-narrowly-and-sex-with-Jim-affirms-life that isn't run of the mill. Written in the first person present tense in Jim's pov, there is plenty of angst as Jim watches nearly helplessly as a gun-man holds Blair with a pistol to his head. Jim is already mourning when a lucky break saves Sandburg and Jim realizes that for the last three years, he and Blair have been involved in one long courtship and that soon they will finally becme lovers.
