01:59 am Stupid Is As Stupid Does by gyzym (R to NC-17)
Fandom:  WHITE COLLAR
Pairing:  Neal/Kate, Neal/Peter
Length: ~5000 words
Author on LJ:  [livejournal.com profile] gyzym
Author Website:  Ao3
Why this must be read:
Okay, so really the entire Captain America 'verse needs to be read.  Because of the awesome.  But specifically -- gyzym has a really in depth idea of what Neal and Peter's relationship might have been like, pre-series.  We've always gotten hints that it's only Peter who could've caught Neal, and this story explores some of the reasons Neal might've gotten sloppy enough to get caught.  (BTW, If you don't like Neal/Peter, know that this story frames it only as a Neal-wanting-Peter thing, so no worries about Elizabeth or marriage or possible paternal vibes.)

Summary:  A con's only as stupid as the reason you're running it.

Teaser:

"Look," he starts, "if you guys are going to be total buzzkills--" and then Mozz gives a little gasp of understanding.

"This is about your suit, isn't it?"

Neal stares at him. "The suit I'm wearing?" he inquires, honestly curious. "I don't see how it's going to help me break into the Met, but if you've got an idea..."

"No," Mozzie snaps, and he looks angry now. "Your Suit. Your pet Fed, Neal."

He feels the blush start at his neck and actively forces it back. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Stupid Is As Stupid Does

Note:  This story is part of a series/universe known as the Captain America 'verse.  All the stories stand alone, but there are some crossovers.  And also?  All of these stories are awesome.  So you should read them.

Why this must be read:

This is a funny and clever character study of Ianto and the development of his relationship with Jack, told through six Season 1 events and the conversations that followed them.

Excerpt: Ianto suddenly didn’t have the slightest clue where to look. Gaping around the place was his first instinct, but knowing how fiercely Jack guarded his privacy, that wouldn’t do at all. But when he looked at Jack… god, he could feel himself giving much too much away at such close range. So he looked at the wrinkles in Jack’s shirt and… and now he was in Jack Harkness’s bedroom thinking about fucking ironing.

He made some sound (an aborted laugh, a choked off sob) and realized that he was still clutching the ladder railing with one hand.

"Still okay?" Jack asked.

"Just tired," Ianto said, releasing the ladder and glancing up. Jack looked so serious that it was easy to find a smile. "Although my boss isn’t making me do paperwork, so that’s a plus."

"Wise guy," Jack said, and reached out to take Ianto’s jacket, sliding it off his shoulders and laying it aside on a small dresser. And then Jack started on the buttons of his waistcoat and Ianto’s mouth promptly went dry.

"How undressed are we getting, approximately?" he asked.

"How wrinkled do you want to get?" Jack replied, half-smiling. "It’s up to you. We’re just sleeping here, Ianto. If you’re interested in something more than that, talk to me when I haven’t spent the last day trying to scare information out of pigeons."
