12:09 pm Reconciliation by Lydia Bower (PG)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully, arguably
Length: 23k
Author on LJ: Not to my knowledge.
Author Website: Gossamer page

Why this must be read:
"Reconciliation" deals with the emotional fallout, for Scully, of the "Emily" arc, something that canon largely overlooked. It's set in the immediate aftermath of "All Souls": Mulder waits for Scully outside the church while she's at confession, and after that persuades her to talk with him, kind of, a little bit. It's one of the few fics I've encountered that does a good job dealing with Scully's religious beliefs, and Mulder's apparent lack of them, with respect to the episode. This is a quiet-moment fic rather than a cathartic or plot-heavy one, and the character voices in it are close to pitch-perfect.

12:16 pm Any Other World by Andromeda (PG)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Cowley, Bodie/Doyle
Length: 17,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] m31andy
Author Website: fiandyfic on LJ

Why this must be read:

I rarely read outside my OTP of Bodie/Doyle and I prefer being in my comfort zone most of the time. For this particular story, I'm making an exception. I feel it's well worth reading because it "fixes" a story that has been discussed many times in the Pros fandom since it was first published in 1994.

I read The Pillory by Kitty Fisher once and I was so upset by it, I would never rec it. It's heart breaking and painful and incredibly sad. However, Andromeda has given me a sequel that provides an acceptable resolution to this gut wrenching story. While I still avoid Fisher's story, I will recommend Andromeda's because she gives me something to take away some of the awful feelings I have over The Pillory. In a way, I'd say Fisher was very successful in her story because of the strong emotions she evokes. Personally, I don't enjoy that sort of heart break in my fic. :)

Fandom: STAR TREK REBOOT
Pairing: Kirk/McCoy,
Length: 1921
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] roflolmaomg
Author Website: http://roflolmaomg.livejournal.com/tag/fic
Why this must be read: Two words describe this fic: Priest Kink. Insanely hot and will reduce you to a gibbering mess. Bones is a southern pastor and Jim is a parishioner in his Northern church. Blasphemous, insanely hot porn ensues. This fic makes you feel like you are destined for a special hell in a glowing handbasket, but oh what a ride to get there.

For the next three Sundays, Jim and Leonard drank beer and watched football. The second Sunday, their hands brushed more than accidentally. Leonard burned inside, but said nothing.

The fourth Sunday, Jim’s hand found Leonard’s thigh, his lips found Leonard’s mouth, and Leonard pretended to be drunk and let him.

Tuesday night Jim put his hand down Leonard’s pants, and Leonard didn’t even have alcohol as an excuse to let him.

11:32 pm Just the Same by blue_soaring (PG)
Fandom: WATCHMEN
Pairing: Nite Owl II/Rorschach
Length: ~550 words
Author on LJ: none that I know of
Author Website: blue_soaring on DW and autoschediastic on AO3.
Why this must be read:
Short as it is I was really drawn into this fic, particularly by its use of the setting. I love fics that really situate the characters in the city, and details like a description of city lights and having the characters chose a direction to travel adds a great dimension to the story. But the real star of the fic is the UST. It is intense from start to finish, and the handling of these two characters in a UST situation is a favorite for me.

Rorschach's scuffed shoes clack loudly on the broken asphalt, a beacon for trouble. Dan hopes trouble's listening. Whatever's charging Rorschach tonight is spilling over into him, twisting through his veins, cramping his muscles. He wants a fight now as badly as Rorschach does.

Rain-spattered minutes tick by. Rorschach leads them to a dead end and Dan follows as he vaults upward, swinging from dumpster to window ledge to flaking fire escape. On the roof, Dan brushes rust from his gloves and squints through billows of steam.

"Here," Rorschach says, lit from beneath by gaudy red.
