06:29 am Hummingbird by mswyrr (G)
Fandom: THE MENTALIST
Pairing: Shades of Jane/Lisbon, but primarily gen
Length: Approximately 3k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mswyrr
Author Website: Also on AO3
Why this must be read:

First off, mswyrr has an absolutely gorgeous, lyrical style. Reading her fics almost feels, to me, like reading poetry. Only without all those worries about stanzas and rhythm and such.

Secondly, she honestly just nails Lisbon's character. This fic takes place after the season 2 finale, and focuses on Lisbon focusing on Jane and his reaction to events. However, no real details of the finale are given, so those unfamiliar with the show and/or fearing spoilers should also feel free to read.

Thirdly, there's a purple blanket involved. A zebra print one.

Go check it out! And remember, comments = love.

03:56 pm Brain Teasers by Peg Keeley (R)
Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-O ORIGINAL SERIES
Pairing: gen, casefic
Length: 25,770 words
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Peg's Hawaii Five-O site
Why this must be read:

Peg Keeley is one of the fandom’s most talented -- and most prolific -- writers, and her knack for staying out of the way of her stories lends her work a definite polish. This is one of the smartest pieces of crime fiction I’ve ever read, convincing and tense and technically well-executed.

(Warning: contains Danno-torture.)

10:15 pm Reflections of the Way Life Used to Be by Dawnwind (NC-17)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 116,309 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dawnebeth
Author Website: Starsky & Hutch Archive, Dave and Ken's Diner, Me and Thee Archive

Why this must be read: Dawnwind is one of the fandom's most beloved writers. She has a way with a story that drags you right in and makes you want to read more. In this novel, Dawn explores one of canon's mysteries: Why did Hutch call his ex-wife Vanessa AND Nancy? The answer is wrapped up in an intriguing case story about drug smuggling, about old friends and old enemies. After Hutch is shot, Starsky's investigation leads to a case that they had been involved in almost a decade ago.

10:46 pm Send in the Clones Series by dvs (Adult)
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: Paul Davis/Daniel Jackson and Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill overall
Length: 47,694 words overall
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dvswraatins
Author Website: On AO3
Why this must be read:
Clone Jack O'Neill is a must-read in my book, and DVS was one of my favorite SGA writers from the early days of this fandom. I like part 2 of this series the best, but it's been rec'd on Crack Van before, so I'll pimp the entire series to you now instead. What I like about these stories is that they feature both entertaining plot and thoughtful treatment of characters, with spot-on dialog.
