Why this must be read: Sometimes really good MFU episodes have gaping holes or some sort of silliness dumped into them. In 'The Children's Day Affair' the hole was Illya's meeting with Mother Fear. The silliness was the scene where Mother Fear dies by exploding cake. Really. Lothithil and MacBeth decided to fix the story line and am I ever glad they did. Here we see the interaction between Illya and Mother Fear (warning: it's pretty brutal) and there are no exploding cakes. These authors have written a completely believable pair of scenes that probably should have been written in the first place. A takeoff from canon the really has to be read. So without further ado, I give you:

Why this must be read:
This story was written for Apocalypse Big Bang, so the usual apocafic warnings apply: offscreen deaths of many, many folks.

It's not as depressing as might be expected, because Atlantis still exists. But the end of the world means the choice to survive or give up.

Pairing: Gen (Peter Pettigrew)
Length: ~1500 words

Why this must be read:

This fascinating--and rather creepy--character study is one of the best Peter-centric fics I've ever read. It's the kind of story that makes you nod and say to yourself: "Yes, this makes sense. It could be canon."
