12:20 pm The Good Ship “On Second Thought, This Might Have Been a Bad Idea, Probably” by nextian (G)
Fandom: STAR TREK REBOOT
Pairing: None
Length: 372
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nextian
Author Website: nextian on AO3
Why this must be read:

Author’s summary: Sulu shouldn't have to be death-defying.

As he hangs from the edge of a cliff, Sulu considers just how hazardous it is to one’s health to be stationed on the Enterprise. Virtually every sentence in this fic makes me laugh out loud. It’s also the perfect length for when you’re running off to work or class and just have time for a quick fic fix. Go read it. You won’t be disappointed.

05:47 pm One of those Days by K Hanna Korossy (Gen)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: None
Length: 66k
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website:http://www.korossy.org/khk/
Why this must be read:
K Hanna Korrosy is one of my favourite authors, as she captures the essence of the show brilliantly. I love the humour in this story - it's so understated, and the thought of Hutch in Starky's jeans - well...
As she say's in her summary - "sometimes it just doesn't pay to get out of bed".

06:47 pm Void by [livejournal.com profile] hearts_trickle (PG-13)
Fandom: WATCHMEN
Pairing: Twilight Lady/Dan
Length: ~2400 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hearts_trickle
Author Website: http://hearts-trickle.livejournal.com/
Why this must be read:

The author's summary reads simply, "Leslie visits the Catacombs of Paris", but this story is so much more. The Twilight Lady is barely mentioned in the GN, and yet she's inspired countless fics. This one shows us a woman who is more than just a vamp, and gives us some idea of the fascination she might have held for Dan. The writing is evocative, and merciless, and the reader feels every second that Leslie visits a truer "underground" than she ever could have found in New York. (Claustrophobes, be warned.)

"...She paused at the entrance, and looked at the glimmering lights of Paris. 'Au revoir,' she shouted at nothing, and kissed the city goodbye, lest she not come back..."

08:25 pm Overtures by Saki101 (PG-13)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Illya/Napoleon
Length: 2000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] saki101
Author Website: None
Why this must be read:
I would recommend any and all of Saki101's work, but alas I am confined to only one story. Her writing style is beautiful, with each perfect word within each perfect sentence increasing the intensity of the story's unassuming sensuality. Nothing is hazy--not the action scenes, nor the coffee cups-- the details are crisp yet somehow remaining duly interpretive. Saki effortlessly balances action, humour and friendship in an understated tale set early in the boys' partnership. Go on, you simply must read it! And don't forget to let the author know how much you enjoyed it!

Why this must be read:

This story is a short scene in which Elaine, now a rookie in the CPD, makes certain kinds of assumptions about Frannie. When all of them turn out to be, well, wrong, Elaine is literally trying to catch her breath.

A quick and flirty read.

Pairing: Luke Skywalker/Mara Jade
Length: Long
Author on LJ: n/a.

Why this must be read:

Author’s summary: Mara returns to Coruscant to find that Callista has returned to Luke.

The steady sound of the waves rolling gently to lie briefly against soft golden sand accompanied the whirlpool of the young woman's mind as she gazed into her glass of rich, red claret.

Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: none
Length: 2,280 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl
Author Website: fic masterlist
Why this must be read: Glam became about the kid in the room, the poster on the wall, putting on a women's short fur coat and eyeliner, with no shirt on, just listening to this music.

This story about a teenaged Gerard in his basement, listening to Bowie and putting on makeup is absolutely wonderful. Not only is it scorchingly hot, the Gerard characterisation is fantastic. I also love the visual and tactile descriptions, they make the story feel so sensual and lush.
