so wrong that it feels too uncomfortable to read. This story does an incredible job at exploring the messy space in between those extremes: Gee (an imperfect, strong, female version of Gerard that is characterized
so well) and Mikey have a complicated relationship. They often struggle with how wrong what they're doing is, but they also have a familiarity and attraction that makes it so hard
not to do it, even when they bicker or need their own space or sleep with other people. It's not simple, because it
couldn't be.
The author is one of my absolute favourites. Her writing is poetic, painting these incredible visuals that stand out in vivid colour in my mind, while still clear and concise, not getting bogged down in description. She tackles a subject that would normally make me really uncomfortable - brother/sister incest, and the possibility of incest pregnancy - but it
works. I'm amazed at how honestly and carefully she portrays what the struggle is like for Gee, how messy and complicated it is. Their lives aren't glamorous, the decisions they make aren't perfect, but this story makes something kind of beautiful out of this gritty and complex glimpse into their world, and I hope you'll give this story a chance too!
