The style grabs you, the story keeps you and times passes quickly straight through to the end. Just hit the link if you dare.

08:33 am The Chinese Room by tyrannicides (NC-17)
Fandom: FOOTBALL (SOCCER) RPF
Pairing: Iker Casillas/Cesc Fabregas
Length: ~13,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tyrannicides
Author Website: football fic tag
Why this must be read: this is one of the most popular pairings in football fandom, and one of the most problematic; it's hard not to turn Cesc Fabregas into a caricature. It's a little ironic that one of the best interpretations of him I've ever read is as a robot, but there you go. I should warn you that this is not funny at all; in fact, it's pretty depressing - Iker is widowed and kind of an emotionally dysfunctional jerk because of it - but it's a beautiful read, and the world-building is phenomenal.

03:30 pm Untitled drabble by drowningdeep (PG-13)
Fandom: WATCHMEN
Pairing: gen, Eddie Blake
Length: drabble
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] drowningdeep
Author Website: Watchmen kinkmeme, 3rd installment
Why this must be read:

This fic is one of a few that take the idea of Daemons from the "His Dark Materials" universe and applies it to the Watchmen verse. The result is a very short fic that nonetheless gives us what is imho one of the most profound and touching insights into Eddie Blake's character. Also, the imagery used is simply amazing, so it's worth a read just for the writing style, too.

10:07 pm Magic’s Heart (Magician’s Apprentice) by Rushlight (NC-17)
Fandom: STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE
Pairing: Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Length: 26k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rushlight75
Author Website: The Bard's Den
Why this must be read: This is a romantic stand-alone piece set in the The Magician's Apprentice universe which I also recommend reading.
Rushlight is a wonderful story teller and this interlude piece as she calls it, is a taste of the larger story you’ll find in the novella. It’s easy to see Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan in this alternate reality of sorcery and dragons.

Excerpt:
It had seemed so simple when he'd first come to Abaddon in search of a Master to train him in the ways of Magic. He'd had the talent from a very young age, and being the headstrong young man that he was, it hadn't seemed worthwhile to be trained by anyone other than the very best. And so he'd come here to the capital in search of the legendary Qui-Gon Jinn, Master of the Mages of Abaddon and personal advisor to the King. Much to his surprise and delight, Master Jinn had agreed to teach him.

11:38 pm A Week in the Life of Highly Respected SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson by boombangbing (Teen)
Title: A Week in the Life of Highly Respected SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] boombangbing, boombangbing
Author Website: AO3, [livejournal.com profile] misfit_fandoms
Why this must be read:
I'm more of a DC girl than a Marvel girl, but apparently the two have been combined into one rec category, and what with all the great Marvel movies recently I've kind of been sucked in.  This is one of the fics that got me sucked in to reading the fanfic.

Phil Coulson is a long-suffering SHIElD agent.  It's his job to make sure that this collection of characters who make up the Avengers (but particularly that king of ADHD Tony Stark) toe the line and keep within reasonable limits and actually come together as a team.  This is often a very difficult, thankless job, but Phil does it with aplomb and good humor.  While still being a little bit of a badass himself.  This fic is a brief look at the man behind the curtain as he: tries to corral Tony Stark, helps retrieve the Hulk on a rampage, briefs Captain America about what the 21st century is like, and foils a bank robbery.  Among other sundry things.

Phil would just like to state for the record that this was all Tony Stark's fault. (Seven increasingly chaotic days in the life of Phil Coulson.)
