09:28 am "The Lovers' Curse" by amonitrate (Teen)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Simon/Kaylee
Length: ~5K words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] amonitrate
Author Website: amonitrate at AO3
Why this must be read: Sometime pre-Serenity, Kaylee mixes up two packages and hijinks ensue. "The Lovers' Curse" is quick reading and a lot of fun. You're also left with some pretty entertaining images, including one extremely amused Inara Serra.

'Wasn't what you wanted. Not at all,' she managed, gasping for air. )

10:43 am Counting Down to Zero (the "Come Back to Me" Video remix) by Jehane_Writes (NC-17)
Fandom: AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 7
Pairing: David Cook/David Archuleta
Length: 7,370 words

Author Website: fic master list [locked]

Why this must be read: The summary: Are soul-mates just a myth? Does destiny really exist, or do we choose our own fates? Over the years, Cook and David discover the answers as they count down to zero.

An intense and gorgeous remix of Countdown (by [livejournal.com profile] soverignthorn) that takes the original into new territory while keeping all of the essential elements. I've read this multiple times and I still discover new details each time.

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Gene Hunt/The Missus
Length: 5925
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fightingthecage
Author Website writing journal [livejournal.com profile] dream_made_real
Why this must be read: This is a fascinating look into Gene's head, life, work and family. [livejournal.com profile] fightingthecagedelves into Gene's backstory with neither sugar-coating nor excessive angst. The quality of the writing speaks for itself. An absolute treat for Gene fans.

Neither of them had ever, ever, talked about fighting back before, not beyond the boyish cries of, ‘I’m gonna kill him!’ after a particularly painful dose of Albert Hunt’s fists. This was different, this was change. This was a concerted, planned, organised effort to make a difference to their lives, and all that day, he’d lived with mounting excitement in his belly – next time, next time. Next time, it’d be the last time. Stu would teach him a lesson. It would be over.

Fandom: SHERLOCK BBC
Pairing: Sherlock/Molly Hooper
Length: Novel-length, 6 parts
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] maybe_amanda and OneMillionandNine
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:
This has been widely recced and the links passed from reader to reader for very good reason.
It's a story about Sherlock, a bit at loose ends after John marries and goes off on a ridiculously long honeymoon; and about Molly Hooper, pathologist at Barts, the first human being we see interacting with Sherlock, in a rut after her boyfriend showed his unattractive side and then her cat and her father die. Molly decides she wants a child and a more tucked-away life. Sherlock is irritated at the idea of Molly leaving Barts and his having to break in a replacement. So, he volunteers, from expediency and boredom and possibly curiosity (why did Moriarty choose her?), to father her child.

You are here in excellent hands. The authors do not disapppoint. This damp paper towel holds the bowling ball just dandy, thank you, without dropping it on anyone's foot. Sherlock remains Sherlock, careless, insulting, prickly, talented, and here carnal in his desires. Molly is Molly, recognizable but gratifyingly sane and strong, even when she's bewildered or tired or wary of this horrible, attractive, destructive man.

Of the possible m/f pairings in the fandom, this is the one I like best. If you're at all fond of Molly, give it a try.

Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-0
Pairing: Steve/Danny
Length: ~1300 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek
Author Website: Fic tag on LJ
Why this must be read: Because it's smoking hot porn with pitch-perfect banter? Because it has Steve using blowjobs to get Danny to give up a few of his secrets? Because Danny gives as good as he gets? I'm not sure what more I need to say here. Did I mention the hot porn?

And now for something completely different... :)

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: None. Gen. Tim McGee-centric.
Length: 3,868 words
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: on FF.Net
Why this must be read: This story features a character death, but I guarantee you that it is not the character you think it is. This is a beautifully written little gem that focuses on McGee and his feelings and how he deals with his loss. Add to that a wonderful team, supportive in their unique ways, and you'll end up smiling and crying at the same time.
