05:35 pm Romance at the Roadkill Grill by lamardeuse (NC-17)
This week, the van shall be changing it up for a boat. That's right, I'll be recommending what I refer to as boat!AUs. While I love John Sheppard as a pilot, there's just something about Atlantis as the city under and upon the sea that lends really well to the idea of John as a ship captain or otherwise engaged in boat-related activities. Or maybe it's just because I really loved seeing half-naked Joe in that Dawson's Creek two-parter.

Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Pairing: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
Length: 22,000

In the first of the boating AUs, Rodney's friend is hospitalized and Rodney agrees to run his restaurant while he's out of commission. Cue big city Rodney being dumfounded by the quirky population as though they were his lab crew (who, you know, even when he's yelling at them he has respect for them or they wouldn't be on Atlantis...first wave *cough*Kavanaugh*cough* perhaps excluded) and completely smitten with the lobster fisherman who may or may not be Rodney's friend's boy toy.

The OCs make this story and a surprisingly open, though still socially awkward, Sheppard is a delight to read. It's sweet, funny, completely romcom-ish, yet still our boys (and even team).

Torncorpse’s A-Team fics
Why this must be read:

This was one of the first stories I read in this fandom, and still, to this day, I can’t stop thinking about it. [livejournal.com profile] torncorpse puts an intensity into her work that’s both subtle and unique. It’s hot and angsty and gorgeous, worms under your skin and takes over, and I adore the somewhat haunting quality of it.

This is a post-movie mission, where Face has to pretend to be Hannibal’s lover for a job. The “going gay for the mission” trope seems to be a favorite, from what I’ve read in the tv!verse, but this one doesn’t end in the same way as any I’ve seen before.

"What're you doing?" Face hisses it against Hannibal's ear, because it's the only thing he's able to do. He's crowded in against the wall -and that alone is making him twitchy, and Hannibal's right there, with his mouth pressing along Face's neck.

"Change in plan," Hannibal's voice is muffled against Face's skin, and Face absently tips his head so he can hear what Hannibal is saying rather than just feel it. "They think you're my boy. Just go with it."

08:49 pm The Geometry of Chance by Manic_Intent (AO3 rated Explicit)
Fandom: MARVEL COMICS (specifically X-MEN: FIRST CLASS)
Pairing: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Length: 35,000 words

Warning: The author gives none, but in the interests of full disclosure, there's dub-con involving an incubus, though his main "victim" is very willing. (Incidental others are referred to briefly.)

Why this must be read: This is just the kind of AU I love -- change one thing and see what happens. In this case, Charles is a centuries old incubus passing as a mutant passing as human. Yes, you read that right. Erik's backstory remains unchanged, and when they cross paths he falls even harder than he did in canon. If that's possible. There's some wonderful world building here -- the author says she used Azazel's comics background as a primer, and it's beautifully done, giving just enough information about a supernatural conflict ages past that left the two of them the last of their kind. The sex is scorching, the characters sympathetic, and the story gripping.

Fandom:SUITS
Pairing: Mike/Harvey
Length: ~12k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] phreakycat
Author Website: None that I'm aware of.
Why this must be read:

Mike has synesthesia in this fic, and the richness of the language, its descriptiveness, around the condition, is really beautiful. I personally appreciated the way the fic deals with the notion of Otherness, particularly in the realm of illness. Mike's motives, his choices in this fic, read just right to me.
