Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: none
Length: 3,982 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] waldorph
Author Website: waldorph on AO3
Why this must be read:
Did you scream and cry and rail at your television over the fate of Donna Noble? I did. Warning, this story will bring back all those feelings. It's powerful and moving and made me cry at the end. Well worth a read, but just be warned, this is NOT a fixit.

Why this vid kicks ass:

First, because it's fun and really suits the attitude of the show well. Second, because it has witty editing. Third because, well, it's a vid, there's eye candy, peeps.

Happy last Friday of the month.

Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Pairing: John/Rodney, minor Weir/Caldwell, Lorne/Zelenka
Length: ~12,200

Author Website: AO3

The implications of this story slay me. The way the parts are woven together is executed extremely well, leaving the reader unknowing as to what is real and what isn't, but a disturbing inclination...without trying to give too much away, this was written for [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match's "angst" category. Keep that in mind. The interactions between John and Rodney are particularly moving.

There's also a small scene that hit the proverbial cutting room floor: A Kiss

Music: Oh No! (Marina and the Diamonds)
Length: 2:20

Why this vid kicks ass:

This video has the perfect marriage between lyrics and images. The quick edits are to the beat, and special effects are professional grade. The song has been edited to fit the video rather than the video filling out to fit the vid. Overall, my favourite fanvid of all time!

Why this vid kicks ass:

Beautiful, bittersweet vid, memories of a man who witnessed the destruction of his world. His life and love are left in the past, he has to survive just enough to ensure the future will come, and he takes strength for this in the past.

Why this must be read:
It's a timey-wimey, circular history kind of thing! The Doctor regenerates into the spitting image of one Donna Noble. Hilarious and cute.

09:39 pm When the Lights go on Again by Seanchai and Elspeth Dixon (LJ rated PG-13)
Fandom: MARVEL COMICS (specifically AVENGERS/CAPTAIN AMERICA/IRON MAN)
Pairing: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark
Length: 170,000 words (yes, you read that right)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] seanchai and [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon
Author Website: Fic Index

Warning: None. Woohoo.

Why this must be read: Again, one of the first fics I ever read in this fandom and one I re-read when I'm feeling nostalgic. Aliens have taken New York; interesting, well-realised aliens who are hideous and cruel and occasionally sympathetic, and complicated in their motivations... Steve and Tony are physically separated for the vast bulk of the story, and yet they're in each other's hearts and minds constantly, until the reader is as desperate for the reunion as they are. The supporting characters are great too, and as an introduction to Hawkeye especially, who I didn't know from Adam at the time, it was a great primer.

Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan
Length: Medium
Author on LJ: n/a

Why this must be read:

A lightsaber battle is a dance - graceful, controlled, deadly. A training battle between a Master and an Apprentice is a celebration of synchronicity and trust. The Dance of Swords is a revelation for lovers.

I love this story because it gives credit to one of the most fascinating things - a lightsaber fight between trained Jedi, conveys its power, precision and grace.

Why this vid kicks ass:
If you are a fan of Doctor Who OR Sherlock, you've probably already seen this. It has over 100k views for a reason. However, just in case you haven't... WATCH THIS NOW. It's a mashup of the shows as a (unfortunately) fake advertisement/trailer for a show that looks absolutely amazing. Man, I wish this were real. Need to find the Doctor? Call Sherlock Holmes!
