Another one (well, two, but they go together) by Gekizetsu. What happens when you take Harry Lockhart and Perry van Shrike and throw them into a world of demonic singers and evil, serial-killing brains? Pure, glorious crack. You don't even have to watch SPN to fall in love with these fics (I've seen maybe a full episode of the show), but I've been told by someone who does watch it that it's rec-worthy just on the Winchester's characterisations alone.

Seriously. Harry Lockhart fighting an evil, serial-killing brain. Do I really need to say any more?

Why this must be read: Spy!fic \o/. But a canon AU rather than a total AU, because Eduardo joins the CIA after the depositions: rich, disenfranchised, angry... what else are you going to do, right?

He’s doing very well as Super Suave Secret Agent Man Eduardo Saverin, but then he has an assignment at the facebook offices, which... just is never going to be easy.

“Good morning, sir,” she greets with professional cheer. “Name please?”

“Eduardo Saverin.” He says it with false confidence and he’s already starting to panic. He doesn’t know where all his talent went but he doesn’t think he’s fit to be a spy anymore. Nope, he should find another career. Like ice fishing or something. He could do that (but he hates the cold).

But the receptionist only types away at her computer. “Alright, you’re representing Eduardo Saverin. And your name is?”

He remembers now that he always sent a representative to the shareholder’s meetings to act on his behalf. “Eduardo Saverin,” he clarifies.

“Yes, but I need your name as well.”

He wants to laugh because this is really kind of funny. It’s like they’re performing their own twisted version of Who’s On First. He pulls his ID from his wallet again and tosses it on the desk, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “I’m Eduardo Saverin.”

Why this must be read: I've been a Leverage fan from the beginning and I love the concept of Arthur as the potential brother of so many fandom bad-ass guys! Eliot Spencer is a retrieval specialist, military-trained, and can fight his way out of anything ... but he doesn't like guns, and typically takes the first opportunity to disarm anyone using one. But what about when it's his little brother that he hasn't seen for ten years? (Arthur might be a little ticked off about that fact ... and about Eliot missing Arthur's high school graduation.)

What you get is a stand-off extra-ordinaire that quickly turns into a knock-down drag-out with Arthur's team looking on (and Eames trying to get in a shot.) But family is family no matter what they've done, and Arthur's not about to let Eames shoot his big brother. If anyone's going to shoot Eliot, Arthur will do it himself!

It's always interesting seeing the characters from one fandom through the eyes of another. (Eliot identifies Eames as ex-SAS because of his distinctive stance, of course.) It's the little details like that which make the story for me. Plus I've always liked stories where one character is trying to protect/help the other who clearly doesn't need or appreciate the concern. Much like the last rec, this story's all about family. For guys who've made their teams their families (at least in fanon for Inception), it's interesting to see what they do when actually confronted with flesh-and-blood family.

*Familiarity with either fandom should be enough to make this enjoyable.

Why this must be read:

The tentative healing that we see at the end of the film, and Duck's unique role within it, are continued here.  While there are loads of excellent stories that go with the theme, the beautiful, haunting language makes this story a true standout.  (And yes, it was written specifically for me, but clearly I have impeccable taste).

Jett Stetson is introduced in the show's second season as a nemesis for Kendall, trying to steal his girlfriend, but later he's brought back in an episode where said girlfriend doesn't appear, just to make Kendall's life difficult. I wanted to rec some this month because, while the boys in the band may fight even when they're paired together, they also all deeply love one another. So for some variety, here's a pairing of rivals who pretty much dislike each other. And the reason I went for this fic in particular is because Kendall/Jett is also, for my money, the pairing most likely to get kinky -- heck, there's an episode that ends with Kendall tying Jett up, and Jett seeming pretty much okay with this. (Note my icon. *g*) So this is a fic that grabs on to that potential and is fantastically hot in doing so.

But their differences fit together like gears meshing to form a relationship that feels as eternal and indestructible as shinigami themselves, and you can't miss the sparks between them. This tiny story is a beautifully precise illustration of how it all works, clear and vivid as a candid photo from a wedding, the kind taken in haste while the couple aren't looking.
