Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing:
Length: short series
Author on LJ:
Author Website: Jayed at Brothers in Arms
Why this must be read:

This story is set in alternate universe story with an interesting portrayal of the sentinel guide bond and rich characters. It deals with Blair and Jim meeting in a different way. I love how this is a happy bonding story with a feel good all day effect. Despite being a shorter series, Blair and Jim have backgrounds and personality that pull the reader int this fine world.

Excerpt:
If you are lucky enough to hear an unbonded Guide speak for the first time while he she is smiling, then you will know you have met a Guide. The combination of voice and emotion will ‘wash over you’ like a soothing caress. If you have a headache or other small pain, it will leave you. Bonded Guides will not give this same impression, nor will Guides you have met previously.

Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Arthur/Merlin
Length: 56K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] new_kate
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

Another fantastic weaving of Merlin canon with a historical AU, Men For All Seasons is a fast-paced, adventure through WWII Europe and Antarctica with an intriguing enemy society, a missing Merlin, and Arthur needing to pass as a native in a modern world that is at times familiar and mind-boggling. New_Kate knows how to weave intricate plot points with a descriptive narrative that dropped me right into the middle of the action, just like a big screen at a movie theater. And through all that, she still manages to capture the intimacy of Arthur's and Merlin's relationship as Arthur tries to balance saving the world (again) and helping to heal a fragile Merlin. I loved the progression of their bond as much as the rest of this epic story. Definitely a fic to savor with all its wonderful details!

01:41 pm Untitled happy!bomb drabble by Anonymous (G)
Fandom: WATCHMEN
Characters: Adrian, Rule63!Adrian
Length: drabble-ish
Author on LJ: Anonymous
Author Website: Watchmen Kinkmeme v. 5.0
Why this must be read:

I'm a sucker for fix-its, and for well-done humor. This little gem has both packed into one little drabble. Really, once you throw in alternate universes, anything can be fixed – and how often does one get the chance to hear Adrian Veidt say "God, I am such an idiot"?

07:20 pm Untitled Frank/Mikey comment!fic (PG)
Fandom: BANDOM (MCR)

Pairing: Frank Iero/Mikeyway, background Gerard/Lindsey, implied Bob/Brian, past Frank/Jamia.

Length: Short

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kin_you_bi

Author Website: Masterlist at LJ and DW

Why this must be read: It's a grad school AU in which Frank and Mikeyway have been BFFs and roommates long enough to have a chore roster and tons of pets. Life is simple for Frank. Well, that is until someone's comment on his dating status inspires Frank to get some outside perspective on his relationship with Mikeyway.

This is a funny, utterly domestic and mellow story. Frank's obliviousness to what Mikeyway means to him is a neat contrast to Gerard's failboat-y attempts in wooing art store clerk!Lindsey. Ray, Brian and Bob's opinions on Frank's denial about Mikeyway being his boyfriend add some nice backstory tidbits. The author did a wonderful job of keeping everyone in character.

It also has some very cozy asides (including a description of Mikeyway nuzzling on Frank's beard. Mmmm!). Despite its length, the worldbuilding is solid enough for any reader to enjoy.

09:07 pm Variations on a Scene by China Shop (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski preslash (but it's mostly a gen ensemble fic)
Length: 2400 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] china_shop
Author Website: AO3 page
Why this must be read: This fic is the same scene seen through three people's eyes: Fraser's, Ray's, and Frannie's. And being three different people, they notice entirely different things, and some things in the scene actually are different, too. It's not just about what details they notice or don't notice, but also about how their relationships with the people in the scene change how they feel about it. I especially like the bit from Frannie's POV.

09:52 pm Play the Part, by Akamine_Chan (gen)
Fandom: SLINGS & ARROWS
Pairing: none
Length: 337 words
Author on LJ: On DW
Author Website: Fic on AO3
Why this must be read: Akamine_chan's snippet about Geoffrey at his discharge hearing from the mental institution is both funny and heartbreaking--often in the same sentence. She deftly captures a man who's not completely sane but can act it if necessary, who's about to take his first steps back in the world that broke him in the first place.
