Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Show Pony/Dr. Death Defying
Length: 1179

Why this must be read:

Some fights don't involve rayguns -- from an action-adventure point of view, nothing happens in this quiet little gem of a story. It's just a moment of regrouping, but it's beautiful and intimate, showing a wonderful connection between two people who know each other very well. Show Pony's voice is vivid and sharp and perfectly balanced -- he's always practical, but that doesn't mean there's no room for humanity.

Fandom: HOUSE M.D.
Pairing: House/Cuddy, House/Wilson
Length: 5871 words

Author Website: Author's Fic on AO3

Why this must be read:

This author has produced just a handful of fics for the House fandom, but I still had trouble deciding which one to share. I chose "Measured violence and tenderness" in part because the very title captures one of the common threads that draw me to [livejournal.com profile] emilys_list 's fic: the complex, sometimes even contradictory motives and emotions that drive the interactions between House, Wilson, and Cuddy - the cruelty of one moment highlighting the unlooked-for kindness of the next. It's funny and sad and screwed-up and in-character and incredibly hot.

Fandom: GENERATION KILL
Pairing: Brad Colbert/Nate Fick
Length: 8879
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nigeltde
Author Website: [personal profile] nigeltde
Why this must be read:

If the previous rec introduced Brad/Nate within the context of the mini, this one does the same while also breaking you into little, tiny pieces. Nate is just trying to handle the epic bullshit that comes his way, finding some solace in Brad. All the voices are fantastic - and we get great looks at the other guys - but Nate's is utterly perfect. What he's dealing with is unbelievable and yet feels so real. The anticipation is gorgeous, the heat between them unbearable, and the end? Well, I'm in denial, but it, too, is beautiful.

On Sunday he sits down to clean his M4 and finds himself watching Brad roll up his cammo nets and pack his vehicle, lecturing Trombley about something or other, trading banter with Ray, sly smile revealing white teeth, tattoo a splash of colour on his back, muscles gliding smooth under tanned skin, trousers hanging low, broad hands to match broad shoulders, bulky and masculine and perfect. As he watches, he wants, consciously, definably, recognisably this time, a pull in his chest, an itch on his palms like a shamaal on the horizon.
