12:09 am Dinner for One by L. White (no rating, I'd say G)
It is marked as slash but it is really pretty mild, in fact blink and you miss it.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Illya/Napoleon
Length: quite short!
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nsandik
Author Website: more here at File 40
Why this must be read: I love to see our boys in the eyes of an outsider, to experience them from a point of view I hadn't considered or imagined. Who among us hasn't imagined having our favourite agent for dinner, hmmm? And even if the one chosen by the narrator isn't your favourite, I think the average Cousin can sympathize with the view and maybe substitute your own reality, isn't that the fun of fanfic? Oh, I think so! Give it a try, even the non-slash fan might find this one a fun time. (and yes, I will try to stop with the supernatural kick, it's quite by accident I assure you! I think my other life in influencing, most humble apologies, Cousins!)

Come in for a bite, yes?

And please remember, if you enjoy this story, a comment to the author is all the payment they get! Show them some love!

12:50 am Jubilation Lee: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. by
Fandom: MARVEL (movieverse-compliant continuity)
Pairing: none
Length: 1,688 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] wabbitseason
Author Website: check out her LJ tags or Archive of Our Own page
Why this must be read:
I love these little slice-of-life moments, especially when it is between characters that normally wouldn't see much of each other. In this story, Jubilee is an intern for Nick Fury (Iron Man and X-Men movieverse). I don't want to give too much away, since it is short, so let me just say... it is DEFINITELY worth a read. Enjoy!

01:49 am sing it for the n00bs by Jedusaur (Explicit)
Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Frank Iero/Gerard Way
Length: 17048 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jedusaur (also on dreamwidth under the same name)
Author Website: Jedusaur's fics at AO3
Why this must be read:

It's no secret to those who know me that I think [livejournal.com profile] jedusaur's writing is some of the best in this fandom, so it seemed fitting to have my first rec for this month be one of her fics. I picked this one because it is not only fantastic, hilarious, and as always, wonderfully written, but because I laughed and grinned and literally clapped my hands throughout, and everybody needs this much fun in their life. This is a wonderfully meta Gamer AU, wherein the Danger Days universe is an MMORPG, and the band members (along with Grace Jeanette and a plethora of other characters from the band's friends and coworkers) are frequent players. I feel that elaborating on that more would be giving too much away, so I'll just add that the author's notes warn for "Epic nerdery, brief homophobic language, happy ending", you've been warned. :-)

07:47 am Fire-broken by Rogue
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 16470 words
Author on LJ: Not known
Author Website: http://www.852prospect
Why this must be read: - In this AU, Jim is a volcanologist heading a group that is studying the imminent catastrophic eruption of a Hawaiian volcano. Among other things, he is supervising the evacuation of the island - people and animals. Meanwhile, Blair, heading an expedition from Rainier, has volunteered to remain behind to study the effects the eruption has on the local people, and he also wants to study Jim's group as they work. And in the process he discovers that Jim has heightened senses...

I've said it before and I'll undoubtedly say it again - I like AUs. I like stories that explore different ways in which the characters might have met, especially when they are pursuing different careers, and what more different for Jim than a scientific career, even though it is a career that will often give him an adrenaline rush. Rogue handles the growing relationship between the two men very nicely, and her OCs are well-drawn and convincing. The situation she has set up here builds dramatically, and this has long been my favourite of her stories.

She doesn't seem to be writing these days, certainly not in The Sentinel. It's a pity.

11:07 am Recruitment gone viral by amaresu (G)
Fandom: COMICS (notably DC Universe, DC Animated Universe - Young Justice continuity, and Global Frequency)
Pairing: none
Length: 2,568 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] amaresu
Author Website: amaresu on AO3, amaresu's fic on LJ
Why this must be read:
Global Frequency is one of those comics that works well with just about ANYTHING. It is also one of the few comics I go back and reread on occasion (and I watch my copy of the unaired pilot episode of the stillborn show based on it, BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME). I love this story because it is about Miranda Zero recruiting... and everyone who has read GF knows how fun THAT always is. In this case, she's recruiting heroes... and it is her reasons for recruiting and the reactions of her recruits that make this a fantastic little story. It had me grinning, anyway.

03:58 pm Fledgeling by Llassah (NC-17)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Ray Vecchio
Length: ~ 8,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] llassah
Author Website: Llassah's profile on AO3, however most of her due South fic is not up there, yet.
Why this must be read:

Wingfic is considered to be crack, but in due South fandom authors make wingfic into art, turning a kink into a metaphor. Llassah wrote this story for me as part of the 2007 Due South Seekrit Santa exchange, responding to my deep love for wingfic by writing a sublime and powerful portrait of Ray Vecchio driven from Las Vegas by the sudden onset of wingedness. Abandoned by and abandoning everyone, Ray hides from the world until the determined team of Benton Fraser and Ray Kowalski find him, embrace him and do what's right. It's also a story of incredible sweetness and delicious hotness.

09:56 pm Brothers by Ohappydaze (K)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Length: 1602 words
Characters: Wee!Anakin, Young Master!Obi-Wan
Author on LJ: I don't think there is one.
Author Website: FFN Profile
Why this must be read:

There is a genre of tender stories regarding the first days of Anakin's apprenticeship: the first swim, the first nightmare, the first comforting. This story delves into the feelings of a young boy who is brash, and sentimental, and learning his way through unfamiliar waters of the deep-thinking Temple Jedi. He asks a basic question of young Master Obi-Wan, expecting an answer, and gets one. It's a half-try at the answer he really wants and needs to hear, but Anakin adapts to the compromise. Much later and more poignantly, Obi-Wan wishes he had answered differently.

10:36 pm Dammit Jim by Yeomand Rand (Teen and upwards)
Hi I'm [livejournal.com profile] bookaddict43 turning up a bit late for Star Trek recs this month! Hopefully I'll be able to catch up.

Fandom: Star Trek: Reboot
Pairing: Jim/Bones
Length: 358 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] yeomanrand
Author website: Her AO3 page

Why this must be read: Because in a few short words the author manages to sketch the relationship between Jim and Bones in both an awesome and believable way. A five times fic told from Jim's POV, I can just about see Bones and the differing ways he says Dammit Jim!
