12:01 am (Another) Untitled by cmshaw [PG]
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Renfield Turnbull/Ray Vecchio (with some Fraser on the side)
Length: 559 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cmshaw
Author Website: N/A

Why this must be read: It's short, but it's worth it. See, Fraser just happens to overhear something that sounds like something, but it turns out it's something else entirely, which... oh dear. In this little ficlet, you have excellent character voices, and for once, you have two Rays fighting over Renfield; in that case, it may be the only fic like it on the whole web!

Fandom: INCEPTION
Title: protect this house (archived Pinboard cache); Public mirror - PG
Pairing: Arthur/Eames
Length: 6,005
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull
Author Website: N/A; some inception fics have been cached on Pinboard and mirrored here
Why this must be read: It's no coincidence two of my favorite Arthur/Eames fics both center around Fashion Week, considering what a huge role clothes play in this fandom, and how decidedly opposed Arthur and Eames' dress senses are to each other. This fic is likewise the polar opposite of the tequilideas fic, quiet and oh, so subtle, while still being wrapped in layers of desire and love, and the ever-present conflict between the need to protect your heart and the need to let in the one you love most.

As you might have guessed, it's a fic about fashion week that's not really about fashion week at all.

[livejournal.com profile] atomicskull's writing is beautiful and compelling, and she is much missed.

I think what I’m feeling right now is regret. )

08:16 am "Mandatory Futures in Make Believe" by cereal (PG-13)
Fandom: COMMUNITY
Pairing: Britta/Jeff, Ensemble
Length: 4021 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cereal
Why this must be read: This story is flippantly hilarious, sweetly disfunctional, and the Jeff and Britta dynamic here captures them at their argumentative best. Basically, the study group takes a parenting class, and chaos and comedy ensue.

"Troy, you're with Abed. Annie -- you want to be a single mom? Done. Britta, you're with me, Shirley and Pierce -- pick your parents." He puts his feet up on the table and reaches for his phone.

Britta waits for the chorus of disagreement, but it doesn't come.

"You guys, you're all OK with this? Troy, you're OK with being Abed's boyfriend?"

Troy leans back in his chair, "You did not just insult my better half like that."

Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: John Watson/Sherlock Holmes
Length: 11,334 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eldritchhorrors
Author Website: on AO3, fic Masterlist
Why this must be read:
This is the second story in a series called The Cold Song and it is FANTASTIC. (Go ahead and read the first story before this one if you want, it is just as good, but the next three stories start an as-yet unresolved arc, so if you only read completed works you'll have to wait. Fortunately, this story can stand alone, even though the entire 50k word series is incredibly brilliant.)

This story and it's prequel literally had me gasping. The prose here is gorgeous and emotionally rich without being clinically detailed and overwrought. There are layers of detail here that come together to create a fantastic whole, like a delicious cake where every layer is richer and yummier than the last.

This story does need some warnings, but you'll find a detailed list in the author's headings. Sherlock is bored and John asked him to stop using drugs (detailed in the first story of the series), but Sherlock still needs something to replace it. John said he'd do anything...

Apologies for the delay. LJ kept kicking me out last week : (

Fandom: STARGATE SG1
Pairing: Implied Teal'c/Sam; hints of Jack/Sam
Length: 1, 330 words
Author on LJ: n/a
Author website/archives: Knightshade
Summary: Teal'c is not himself and Jack is worried.

Why this must be read: This is such a wonderfully lyrical and beautiful fic. It's a true love story and I almost never read het. But I've read this a dozen times and recced it on my rec list and privately to other readers and it still brings tears to my eyes whe I re-read it. Teal'c's resignation over the situation is wonderfully drawn but you can still sense the longing and love he feels.

Title: On Your Every Body (Though Your Skin Will Come Unmarked); And the Heart Lies Deeper Still Than Bone - NC-17
Pairing: Arthur/Eames
Length: 14,614
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] isagel
Author Website: author's AO3 profile
Why this must be read: In the dreamscape, you can be any physical self you want. Genderqueer!Eames is all that and more. I've reread these two amazing fics so many times since I first discovered it. The chemistry between Arthur and Eames is off the chart, and the sex is scorching. I love, love, love Eames who is both Grace Kelly and Cary Grant, and Arthur who can't get enough of either of them. Eames slips effortlessly between forms, and Arthur's love for them both permeates this fic in ways small and huge. It's beautiful. And hot. Just need to say that again. Holy smokes this fic is hot.

03:09 pm Art of the Reasoner by Tellytubby101 (teen)
Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: none (author lists it as Sherlock/John)
Length: 44,328 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tellytubby101
Author Website: on AO3, Fanfiction Masterpost (contains many stories not on AO3), FF.net
Why this must be read:
I can't recommend this story highly enough. As a reader, I tend to gobble fics up as fast as I can. It takes a rare story to make me want to slow down. For this fic, I doled chapters out to myself slowly over a long period of time, as a reward to myself, because I didn't want it to end (and I thought about the story a lot between reads). It is so gorgeously written, filled with imagery and colors, that lit my mind up while reading it.

This is an AU where Sherlock took a different path and became an artist instead of a consulting detective, but even in this world he still helps to solve crime.

Go, read it now! Also be sure to check out the art linked in the epilogue and read the sequel.

Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: could be read as either Arthur/Merlin preslash or friendship
Length: 6,068 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] xfortytwo
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

Author's Summary: Merlin is hit with a curse that gives him an insight to Arthur that he never thought he'd have.

My favorite part of this lovely piece was ingberry's characterization of both Arthur and Merlin. They are both spot on with their misunderstandings, insult hugs, and gruff affection. She also used a unique curse to get our boys to admit their feelings, a curse that is both shiver-inducing and heart-wrenching for our boys. Mix that in with wonderful h/c and get together, and you've got a lovely Merlin fic to enjoy.

Length: ~ 7,500 words (48K)

Why this must be read:

Mr. Waverly is in his office, drowning in paperwork and staff meetings. As he tries to get rid of some of the items cluttering his desk,  he keeps getting interrupted by calls, such as the one from Solo stating that the mission failed. Other agents are also calling in for instructions and advice. Waverly handles it all while he steadily attempts to empty his in-box.

This a treat.

08:45 pm Stageplay by lit_gal (NC-17)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Tony/Ziva and Gibbs/Tony
Length: long
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lit_gal
Author website/archives: litgal.org
Why this must be read: Anyone who knows me also knows that I'm an anti-Tiva-shipper. And yet, I'm reccing a story that features this pairing. Why? Because it's so awesomely written that I can actually see this pairing. The fic doesn't actually focus on the sex part; this is about the emotional and psychological ramifications of a D/s relationship gone wrong. It ties in beautifully with canon (season 6, in case anyone wants to avoid spoilers) and explores the characters (be it Tony, Ziva, Gibbs or Abby) realistically.

The only complaint I have is that there isn't more to this story. It needs a sequel. So Very Much.
