02:28 am "sticks and stones will break my bones, and words will probably choke me" by Anisole (PG-13)
Fandom: SUPER JUNIOR
Pairing: None; general band fic, but there is optional Donghae/Kyuhyun if you squint
Length: ~1,000w
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anisole
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] subtleslide
Why this must be read: One of the reasons I love Super Junior fanfiction is that it comes up with the most interesting premises, and this is definitely one of most unique I've seen. This fic is magic realism-ish, and takes a discussion of the importance and problems of language to an entirely new level; it's humorous while remaining insightful. Few fandoms except SuJu would come up with something like this.

*Comprehension notes: "hangul" is the Korean alphabet; "hyung" is Korean for "older brother" and is used by younger males when referring to older males (for more information, click here); "east sea" is the literal translation of the characters that make up Donghae's name.

06:08 am One Piece Fandom Overview

Hello! I'm so excited to be reccing One Piece here, for the first time in the comm! My entrance to this fandom took a number of twists and turns, like some sort of cheezy romance novel....it holds a special place in my heart. Sorry for the slight delay passing the starting line, all, it took more time than I expected to get the floaties and propeller attached to the van.

Cause where we're going we're gonna need them.

Fandom: ONE PIECE
Pairing: None
Length: ~60k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tonko_ni
Author Website: AO3; FF.Net
Why this must be read: What reason is there to not rec this fic?? To me, it perfectly captures what makes OP tick—the Straw Hat's pasts, what their pasts made them into as adults, and their relationships with their crewmates. Doubly impressive is that it takes one of those tropes that usually makes me skip right over a fic—characters getting turned into children—and makes it not frivolous or something to torture the adults with, but instead uses it to create a meaningful, subtle dialogue on childhood, parents and children, and growing up. It's one of those rare fics that has left tears in my eyes and a difficult-to-express sense of warmth in my heart.

Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Patrick Stump/Joe Trohman
Length: Short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] likeasugarcube
Author Website: On AO3
Why this must be read: It's teenagers skipping school to mess around in the back of a movie theater. What else do you need? They're fumbling and awkward and very, very sweet without losing the absolute boyish quality about them.

Fandom: HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS
Pairing: none
Length: 2,540 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jessikast
Author Website: on AO3
Why this must be read:
Because when you start to figure out what is going on, the sheer WTFery you will experience is fabulous. LOL In this story we have terrified villagers, mysterious monsters vaguely resembling something mythic, and Iolaus and Hercules saving the day. It's practically an episode of the show!

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg
Length: 24,700
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mab_browne
Author Website: Mab's Stories
Why this must be read:

I got lucky enough to drive The Sentinel van this month, right after the fics from the [livejournal.com profile] sentinelbigbang had finished posting. Chrysalis was one of the stand-out entries. Long, plotty, gorgeously written, this AU combines the best of The Sentinel with clever, provocative sci-fic, reminiscent of Isaac Asimov or Heinlein. I can't recommend it highly enough. Combined with some gorgeous artwork from Helvetic, this can't be missed.

04:29 pm Pacific by youtooblondie (Mature)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: One bite
Author on LJ: youtooblondie
Author Website: NA
Why this must be read: youtooblondie's imagery and touch with words take my breath away. She is a poet with a more-than-sublime control of language, story, emotion, and insight. Her work inspires and elevates both these beautiful boys and the reader. Even readers who profess not to appreciate poetry are often caught up in the stories she weaves with such precise and perfect words.

In this luscious bite, she takes us to a moment of love, with blue sky as a banner overhead and the restless blue of the Pacific Ocean all around. Come with me and let's bask in those sea breezes as we look quietly in. And please...when you give this piece a try, read the words aloud to yourself - hear the lyrical cadence of the language...and I believe you will be spellbound.

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: 11k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] msmoat

Why this must be read: B
ecause, quite simply, PFL is a great Pros writer. Her lads are always true to life and she has a wonderfully descriptive turn of phrase.

It’s Jubilee weekend and so we’re still in London, of course (where else?), but this time we’re in Doyle’s flat, sitting on his bed with Bodie. But wait – things are not good. Bodie has some red, white and blue bunting in his hands, and he’s remembering…
