12:08 am Paean by neveralarch (Adult)
I'm back. I just wanted to wait to reveal my next rec until today, that's all. The moment was prepared for. And speaking of, this is my classic Who rec of the week.

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Doctor/Master, Master/other
Length: ~3700 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] neveralarch
Author Website: profile on A Teaspoon and an Open Mind, list of works on LJ
Why this must be read: What if the Master was asexual? This fic asks and answers that question effectively.

12:35 am The Time Will Come When The Day Is Done & its remix A Seahorse Gilt in Gold (R)
Fandom: THE SOCIAL NETWORK
Pairing: Mark/Eduardo
Length: 11 000 + 25 500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] moogle62 (the time etc...) and [livejournal.com profile] antistar_e (a seahorse etc...)
Why this must be read: Zombie Apocalypse AUs. The first is from Mark's POV, while the remix is from Wardo's! They are the right mix between horror, love, fear, salvation, ... they are really complementary.

10:32 am we will build a new world by brojan (r)
Fandom: FOOTBALL (SOCCER) RPF
Pairing: David Villa/Lionel Messi
Length: ~1450 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brojan
Author Website: Master Fic List

Why this must be read: Given Spain's history and ongoing regional tensions, it should come as no surprise that AUs involving civil war have become a popular subgenre in Football RPF involving players in La Liga. In honor of the 4th of July, I give you one of my favorites, which finds David Villa taking refuge with Leo Messi in Barcelona once the bombs start dropping on Madrid. The author deftly eschews political commentary while including enough details to convey the chaos and claustrophobia, as well as the comfort that these two men take in each other. Bring tissues.

12:00 pm Good Company by [livejournal.com profile] janice_lester (NC-17)
Happy fireworks day, American readers! In honor of today, I bring you a porn rec of the "maybe-you-haven't-read-it variety." Hope you enjoy!

Fandom: Star Trek (2009)
Pairing(s): McCoy/Uhura
Length: 1900 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] janice_lester
Author Website: on LJ
Why this must be read: I really love how these characters interact, as in they have sex because they feel like it and know it will be good (also there is no angst here). McCoy just needs to be pounded, ya know (author's words, not mine).

Why this must be read:

Because nobody knows how to break the boys, and us by extension, like [livejournal.com profile] akamine_chan. The scenario she gives us is totally believable, and all the more heartbreaking because of it. Get the tissues ready, and go read.

Fandom: due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Length: 1850 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds
Author Website: AO3 link
Why this must be read:

On to a much happier piece from another comm I love, [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks. There are three multi-fandom challenges posted per month, and pretty much any type of fanwork is accepted. I have been very pleased to see a lot of dS representation.

As for why you should read this fic... I’m a sucker for a good first time fic, and for RayK POV. This one combines both. It’s funny and wonderful, and why aren’t you reading it already?

10:38 pm Every Purpose Under Heaven by Halotolerant (Teen & Up Audiences)
Fandom: LEWIS
Pairing: Robbie Lewis/James Hathaway
Length: 3k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] halotolerant
Author Website: halotolerant at AO3

Why this must be read:
Such a complicated thing, the relationship between Inspector and Sergeant. Probably seeing more of each other than the average person did a spouse, and yet within that the range for intimacy was... wide.

This deceptively gentle story begins with Hathaway helping Lewis clear out his mother-in-law's house. It calls back to Morse, and back to Lewis's wife Val, and made me feel the ordinariness of grief. I felt a strange pleasure of shock and sadness coming upon lines like: A TV Times lay open on a coffee table, pen put down in the act of circling programmes for the coming week. The story moves from that universality into a beautifully specific coming together of Lewis and Hathaway that could only be written about them.

I'm explaining it all wrong. Please go read.
