11:16 am a scent and a sound by mwestbelle (NC17)
Fandom: BANDOM (My Chemical Romance)
Pairing: Frank Iero/Mikey Way
Length: longish (15,390 words)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mwestbelle
Author Website: mwestbelle@AO3
Why this must be read: I first noticed this story when [livejournal.com profile] fire_juggler posted her podfic of it (which I also recommend highly: [Podfic] A Scent and a Sound by mwestbelle read by fire_juggler), and was blown away. The story is just what the summary promises: In an urban fantasy world where werewolves can't hold a decent job and no roommate wants them, werewolf Frank is looking for an apartment. He finds one with Mikey Way. Then again, mwestbelle manages to portray in an incredibly realistic way the actual challenges a disenfranchised person faces, and what that person can do even when they are oppressed and discriminated. (It resonated to me as an analogy to the experiences of people of colour, but can surely be read in other ways.) So this story offers four things I love: romance, werewolves, politics and a character growing up/coming of age. And all of this is packed into superb writing.

07:40 pm If You're Paying For Fun by [livejournal.com profile] silverlining_99 (Explicit)
Fandom: Star Trek (2009)
Pairing: McCoy/Chapel
Length: 12,300 Words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] silverlining_99
Author Website: Here
Why this must be read: I know that this author has been recced on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van before and for good reason. Here McCoy meets Chapel in New Orleans in a timeline that could totally fit the 2009 movie. They are appropriately hot together and there is that hint of more in this that is easily seen in the sequel that does lead into the events of the movie. Plus, drinking and sex and fun oh my!

08:28 pm These fragments I have shored against my ruin by aprettyaway (NC-17)
Fandom: INCEPTION
Pairing: Arthur/Eames
Length: 10k
Author on LJ: http://aprettyaway.livejournal.com/
Author on AO3http://archiveofourown.org/users/aprettyaway/pseuds/aprettyaway
Why this must be read:

This makes the must rec list because it shows all the ways Arthur bears the brunt of the fallout from Cobb's life on the run.  The exhaustion and disillusionment are like a grinding headache throughout, and that takes a talented writer to evoke.  Even more difficult is to set that ache against the potential for love Eames offers in his devotion.  The question is if Arthur is able to trust enough to accept it.  For me it hits the perfect blend of angst and romance.
