10:58 am The Promise Within by MK_Yujji (R)
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Arthur/Merlin
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

A completely unique story in which a ritual pulls Arthur's latent magic to the surface. A fabulous look into what would happen between Arthur and Uther should Arthur become the very thing that Uther hates. And how that very thing brings Merlin and Arthur closer together. Completely well-written and beautiful.

Author's Summary:

This is not as destiny intended, young warlock. You are meant to be the magical side of this coin, not the young Pendragon. I can no longer clearly see what path destiny will follow.

An ancient ceremony alters the course of destiny and everyone must face choices that no one expected. As Uther’s hatred of magic clashes with his love for his son, Arthur sees everything in a different light.

Storms knocked out my Internet last night, so posting a wee bit late.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL (VID)
Pairing: Carolyn Plummer/Jim Ellison; Blair Sandburg/Jim Ellison
Length couple of minutes
Author's Warning None.

Why this must be watched: I liked seeing Jim and Carolyn's relationship from Carolyn's point of view. She's mostly exasperated, but still a little tempted, even though she knows, she knows, she knows, that the divorce was the best thing for them. People move on, she does, and she's watching her ex with his observer partner and seeing Jim looking at him like he used to look at her.

The song and words splashed on the screen are whimsical, there's no angst here. Is there anybody who thinks that Jim Ellison wouldn't be a tad tough to live with?

11:32 am You Lead, I Lead, You Follow, I Follow, by brighteyed_jill (PG)

I apologize again for not having posted this month. I'll try to make up for it in these few last days.

Fandom: SHERLOCK BBC
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 900 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brighteyed_jill
Author Website: Master Fic Sticky list of work
Why this must be read:

It fits beautifully in its length, which is short and round. I've been fascinated lately by characters in states of fog--dreaming, half-awake, befuddled, addled, dazed, confused--and the way different authors convey it or use it in the story. This is slightly, sweetly romantic. John is feverish and wounded, recovering from a case. He envisions dance lessons, with Sherlock leading him. It's neatly, deftly done, and circles as a dazed waltz would.

Why this must be read:

Sally Donovan puts her sharpened observational skills to work on a sleepy morning in a coffee shop, waiting for Lestrade to return with their drinks.
You'll probably be miles ahead of Sally on this one, but give her a break, it's not what she expected to see, and she didn't have spoiling headers and tags to over-inform her. This is pleasantly, mildly done, with affection all around. There's also a stinger reference to a recent film.

Pairing: Susan Ivanova/Marcus Cole
Length: 41,000 words, 21 chapters

Why this must be read:

"A training flight leads to a downed craft. Can Marcus Cole and Susan Ivanova survive without killing each other? "

The classic "stranded on a planet, just me and Spock" scenario: Susan and Marcus are trapped together and must face various dangers, man-made and natural, on the way to facing their feelings. The story doesn’t cheat by having Susan already secretly in love with Marcus—in fact, he annoys the crap out of her at the beginning—but it builds a friendship and mutual respect and, eventually, sexytiems. I think my favourite parts were the scenes in the water (bathing together, ooh, and Marcus fishing).
