07:29 am The Measure of a King by Xela (R)
Fandom: GRIMM
Pairing: Renard/Nick
Length: 15,735 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] xela_fic
Author Website: AO3, Masterlist on LJ
Why this must be read:

Author's Summary: He’d signed and announced the Warrant of Appointment three days ago. Nick was officially Portland’s Hochmeister, a sovereign military asset operating under the auspices of the Crown. He just didn't know it. And then a rogue Grimm rolled into town to challenge Nick for his place. Renard won't let that stand, but Nick's natural curiosity was making it very hard to keep him safe.

Xela gives us a lush world of Wesen Royalty history, Grimm history, a modern power struggle between the Old and New Worlds, and our favorite "catch-and-release" Grimm, Nick, caught in the middle of it. I adore some of the descriptive details Xela lays out for us; I feel I'm right in the middle of the Wesen Königshof (kind of a court) or standing on top of a city building surveying a Regnant's kingdom with him.

I also really enjoyed the Renard and Nick dynamic in this one. Nick loses none of his badass Grimm-ness even though Renard does most of the fighting. Nick lets Renard know that he's his own man and will not surrender everything to anyone. Renard respects that and they come to a strong partnership by story's end.

09:55 am My Brother's Keeper by Diane (G, Pre-Slash)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch (possibly)
Length: 11,617
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] diane_c
Author Website: Diane on the Starsky Hutch Archive
Why this must be read:

Starsky's younger brother, Nicky, is a shady character, interested in making quick deals, and not averse to working outside the law. In fiction, he's invariably a bad guy, often in conflict and in competition with Hutch. While we see those traits here as well, the story takes us into different territory by using Nicky as the sole point of view character. As a result, the story has a very different view of Starsky and his family that's both tense and tender, with the kind of emotional impact we always looking for in this fandom, and with a few surprises. The voice and dialog are excellent, setting up vivid characterizations that are easy to believe. It's a story about family and where we fit into it, both blood family and adopted family. And, like all Diane's stories, it's about love.

02:20 pm A Gilded Hook by Eldritchhorrors (R)
Fandom: STAR TREK REBOOT
Pairing: Kirk/Spock, Kirk/Spock Prime
Length: 9918
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eldritchhorrors
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

For the sheer brillance of the plot, which is both well-crafted and spins the much-loved "mind-meld" trope in an absolutely sinister way.

Summary: "Something...was wrong. Jim wasn't sleeping. Wasn't eating. And those dreams...those goddamn dreams...A Love Story."

I was on the fence about reccing this because on the one hand it is a phenenomally well-put together and well-written story but on the other hand it's not a story for everyone.  It's comes with a bunch of warnings, which you should read if you have any sort of triggers.  But if not, keeping the caveat lector warning in mind, read it without the warnings.  The twist towards the end comes across more shocking.  It is exactly what it says in the summary...a love story...just a very twisted one.  And as most commentators have stated it's a complete mindfuck.  It's a wretchedly devastating read and the idea...the plot (in retrospect so incredibly simple) is like a punch to the gut...but it's well worth the ride.

02:37 pm Get Up and Go by inlovewithnight (Teen and Up)
Fandom: BANDOM (My Chemical Romance)
Pairing: None
Length: About 6000 words.
Author on AO3: faviconinlovewithnight

Why this must be read: Because it's pure happiness in fic form? Because it's an extremely unlikely idea - Mikey Way running a marathon and an ultramarathon - executed perfectly? Because, as faviconinlovewithnight says in the end notes, "Picture Mikey Way in little running shorts. Just picture it"? If those aren't enough of a hook, I don't know what would be.

08:03 pm The Unraveling of Harvey Specter by Laughter_Now (explicit)
Fandom: SUITS
Pairing: Harvey Specter/Mike Ross
Length: 8k words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] laughter_now
Author Website: Ao3

Why this must be read:

Oneing I'm disappointed about in Suits is that there seems to be a lack of bottom!Harvey. I mean, I get it, I do - he's very dominant, and it's easy to picture Mike bottoming. And although that's totally hot, I personally prefer to mix it up. I absolutely LOVE seeing that in fanfiction, and this fic is a prime example.

This fic isn't all about the porn, though. The unraveling in the title is not only a reference to Harvey letting down his guard in bed, but in his personal life, too.

So, go forth! Read porn! Have some feels and start the weekend off right!
