Fandom: GENERATION KILL Pairing: None, gen Length: 1956 Author on LJ: sparky77Author Website: Q's FicWhy this must be read:Ray is a special snowflake and sparky77 is consistently brilliant at capturing that. Here, Ray does exactly what the title says: he analyzes Dr. Seuss. The experience will leave you in stitches, in awe, or in disbelief. Possibly all three. So worth a read, even if you know nothing of canon. Let’s take a moment to consider the fact that Dr. Seuss was challenged by his editor to write a story only using 50 words and one of the words he chose to use was goat. I’m not saying that Dr. Seuss was a kinky commie bastard who fucked goats, I’m just presenting the evidence for you to judge. Ray Person's Analysis of Green Eggs and Ham

My apologies for the late start. However, it is only the 12th, we still have two and a half weeks left in September, which gives me plenty of time to ply you with recs. As with my last trip in the van, I'm trying to pick stories for people who might be reading in this fandom for the first time. My preference is for genfic, but this time I'm going to try to rec some shippier fic. Since the show is ending in only 13 episodes, I figure if not now, when. Fandom: Fringe Pairing: None Length: 12,096 Author on LJ: ziparumpazooAuthor Website: Fic Master Post; http://archiveofourown.org/users/ziparumpazoo/Why this must be read: I know. More genfic. But this is really great! It's an AU of a canon AU since it was written before Immortality aired. After Alt!Livia's return from her mission on the other side, she fears what Walternate's plans for her unborn baby may entail. This is kidfic that's plot and character driven and would have have worked very well as canon. Although the show ultimately went in a different direction with Alt!livia's pregnancy, I actually prefer this one. Read Stoichiometry

Hi, I'm April and I'll be driving the van for The Sentinel this month. I apologize for getting a bit of a late start; I'll try to make up for it with a lot of great recs. As luck would have it, my month came up just as I had some other commitments to handle in another fandom, but I'm back and able to concentrate on the universe and characters I've loved for more than a dozen years now. Jim Ellison and Blair Sandburg will always have my heart and Sentinel fandom is alive and well and still churning out fantastic fic! Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg Length: 3406 words Author on LJ: Fluterbev, Rhyo Author Website: on Dreamwidth , on Artifact Storage Room 3, on AO3 Why this must be read: This story pushes all my buttons, and if some of your buttons are presumed death, Jim being taken and used by some unnamed agency because of his Sentinel abilities, and being drawn back to Blair because of his love and need for him, then this story is for you. "Postscript" isn't long, but it packs a punch. The summary says, Five years after Jim’s death, Blair still can’t accept that he’s gone. A shadowy figure is forced out of hiding when Blair asks questions in the wrong places. The writing is beautiful and the reader feels the pain both Jim and Blair suffer as well as the undeniable love between them. "Postscript"

Fandom: SKIP BEAT! Pairing: Kyoko/Ren Length: 15 chapters, 46,620 words Author on LJ: Possibly not them, but has the same username: alitablakeAuthor Website: FF.net profile pageWhy this must be read: Kyoko accepts her first film role playing a female serial killer, and Ren is cast as the detective who catches her. To make things even more fun, President Takarada assigns Kyoko a Love Me task of going on a publicity date. Ren finds out and does not react well. This fic's first 10 chapters are what I am reccing. The final 5 are okay, but can be rather schmoopy. (And have one of the most common sexual mistakes in fanfic, but what can you do...) This fic has a lot of homonym and grammar errors, but I feel the fic as a whole outweighs them. The setup is amusing and different enough from the fandom norm to keep me reading. [Set after the Valentines Day fiasco] It also has some amazing turns of phrase, which are a large part of why I'm reccing it. Let me share a particular jewel, from chapter 5: "Aww, Kyoko-chan. There doesn't have to be a break up. Many famous couples stay together after their time together under the camera." Isao pretended to look hurt, but she didn't really buy into it. This man was like cooking fat, smooth and greasy and completely bad for you. Embrace No Evil

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: none Length: approx 11,700 words Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/107408/paulaH-and-GJWhy this must be read:With Halloween around the corner, this is a very appropos and humorous story that will just have you grinning as wide as any jack-o'lantern! Illya, in his first few years in New York, doesn't understand the traditions of Halloween and keeps getting himself into trouble from which Napoleon constantly has to bail him out. But maybe the wily Russian isn't quite as ignorant of the American custom of Trick or Treat as he pretends... The Complete Candy Affair

Fandom:STARSKY AND HUTCH Pairing:Starsky and Hutch Length:5330 words Author on LJ: kuonjiAuthor Website:http://kuonji14.livejournal.com/22264.html#cutid1 http://archiveofourown.org/users/kuonji/pseuds/kuonji/works?fandom_id=11778 Why this must be read: Because in my humble opinion, there aren't enough Ramon/Charlie Honey fics. Kuonji writes a first time, episode AU: from the episode Tap Dancing Her Way Right Back Into Your Hearts. The case is finally coming together, and Starsky and Hutch wait impatiently to see what will be on the other side of it. "Ramon." Starsky raised inquiring eyebrows at his 'boss' Ginger's financer and manager. His name was Chambers, and a more sleek and stuffed man Starsky had rarely seen. Past even odds he was involved with this thing. But how much involved? "A moment please." Chambers gestured towards the room marked Private. "What is it?" Starsky asked, keeping the broody tone of his cover even as his heart jumped with excitement. He'd never been in that room and not for lack of trying. ( Read more... )

Fandom: THE AVENGERS Pairing: Darcy Lewis/Steve Rogers Length: 54,066 words Author on LJ: boombangbingAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read:Darcy/Steve is tied for second as my favorite Avengers pairing and this series really shows why. Steven encounters Darcy at a SHIELD 4th of July event and things go from there. Darcy shows Steve how to navigate in today's world and Steve falls in love with her. The third story in the series is Steve gets to meet Darcy's family, which is awkwardly awesome. Direction series

Fandom: RESERVOIR DOGS Pairing: Orange/Blonde Length: 21.436 words Author on LJ: scandalmongerAuthor Website: fanfiction.netWhy this must be read: This story portrays a very intriguing dynamic between two characters who in the movie almost don't interact at all. It is also a terrific take on Freddy's transformation to Orange. Warnings: dub-con elements So We're Driving Around... No, he couldn’t do it. He was a cop, but not a tough one. Not really. He liked to dream and pretend as much as the next guy. Liked to think he’d accomplish something heavy and badass and earn his gold shield, but he didn’t have the stomach for it.
But maybe Orange did.
In fact, he was sure that Orange did.
