Title: And then it went all f***ing Stargate by indyhat Pairing: None, gen Length: ~3300 Author on LJ: indyhatAuthor Website: indyhatWhy this must be read:For today's Crack Van Collision...Bravo 2-1 Alpha somehow winds up on the Serenity. Hilarity ensues. It's told from Ray's POV, which is brilliant and profane and nine kinds of priceless. Not only does indyhat master Ray's voice and Brad's deadpan, but she also gives the Firefly characters their due. Generation Kill and Firefly have very specific linguistic palettes and this story manages to paint with both of them, effortlessly, while also being laugh-out-loud funny. An impressive feat. It's the kind of read that made me want another ten thousand words. What planet? Ray hopes the captain is just being metaphorical. He starts wondering about the quantities of Ripped Fuel he's ingested over the last forty-eight hours. Fuck, maybe this was the really good shit and he should have strung it out a bit longer, or at least cut it with Nescafé.
Also, Reynolds seems to have some fucked-up Chinese version of Tourettes. Like, what's up with that.
"Earth," Brad says, with such a straight face that Ray sort of hopes one of the hatches will open and Klingons will come out and declare war or some shit like that. And then it went all f***ing Stargate

Title: Believe Me If You Can (The House at Pooh Corner) Pairing: Arthur/Eames with a side of Cobb/Saito, Ariadne/Yusuf Length: 11,600 words Author on LJ: gyzymAuthor Website: gyzym's stories on AO3; Master fic list on LJWhy this must be read: Not so much a cross-over as a fusion, but it's one of those things that if you know and love Winnie-the-Pooh, you're going to laugh extra hard. The team is doing a job for Disney, and their best strategy is to go into a dream of the Hundred Acre Wood and let the dream assign them to be characters ... Rabbit, Eeyore, Piglet, etc. Okay, so it sounds like crack fic - I know - but the thing that makes this story extraordinary is that it's not just that. Yes, the premise is absurd, but the personalities of the beloved Winnie-the-Pooh characters fit so well with the Inception team. There are laugh out loud moments - Arthur/Rabbit's obsession with carrots (and pot) is hilarious. There are moments that are absolutely heart-breakingly poignant and sweet ... like when Eames realizes he's lost the ability to forge within the dream. And besides the wonderful characterizations, there's also an underlying plot that ties it all together. ( 'This,' Arthur says, blinking asleep, 'is the weirdest fucking thing we've ever done.' )On LJ: Believe Me If You Can - Part 1Believe Me If You Can - Part 2On AO3: Believe Me If You Can (The House at Pooh Corner)If you enjoy the story, remember to feedback the author!

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS Pairing: Gen Length: 2 images Author on LJ: basaltgrrl Author Website: http://basaltgrrl.livejournal.com/ Why this must be seen: Basaltgrrl has a real talent for capturing character likenesses and packing ideas and hints of backstory into her images, and this is no exception. It's a comparison between two sets of DI and DCI - Sam and Gene, and Gene and Harry Woolf. A couple of great portraits in which the differences between the two speak volumes - especially the changes in Gene's body language and subtle tweak in his expression. A really interesting and nostalgic character study! The Sheriff and his Deputy

Fandom: INCEPTION Pairing: Arthur/Eames Length: ~6700 words Author on LJ: avissAuthor Website: Aviss's stories on AO3; aviss's fic masterlist on LJWhy this must be read: When I first came across this story, the summary was all I really needed to hook my interest: "You are either a genius of unheard of proportions, or a complete moron. Is it even possible to incept yourself?" After the events of the film, Eames is struggling to sleep, and he reaches out to Arthur for company if not exactly for help. Arthur, tired himself, tells Eames to go to sleep, and miraculously he does. It doesn't take Eames too many pestering phone calls to Arthur before he figures out that somehow Arthur is the only person who can get him to sleep. The trouble is ... how to explain that to Arthur without looking like a complete idiot? Fandom: THE X-FILES Pairing: Mulder/Scully something, Bill Scully, NC17 Length: 645k or 250 zip Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: The Rookery(via Wayback) and her page on GossamerWhy this must be read: This was, and is, one of the few XF fics that makes me cry. It is a standalone sequel to Condemned to Repeat It, but it is not necessary to read that before this. A tale of family, Scully's in this case, as well as a love lost in the past. It is bitter and romantic and tragic and wonderful. What I like best in someways is that her Mulder and Scully can't read one another's minds, which leads to longing, confusion and misunderstandings on both sides. Have a pot of tea, some cookies, and a good few hours to yourself when you begin. It's genius. Being Crazy

Fandom: THE X-FILES Pairing: Krycek/Marita, R Length: 30k Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: she who hides on Gossamer. Why this must be read: I'm very much a shipper, but that doesn't mean I don't also love a well plotted story featuring other characters and their points of view. Having said all that, this story is brilliant. The characterization...let's just say I have not come across many authors who give such rounded, human aspects to Mulder and Scully's nemeses. Here they are bright, sharp and cutting, yet still doubtful. Dropped Angels

Fandom: MERLIN/LEVERAGE Pairing: Arthur/Merlin Length: 6,265 words Author on LJ: oxoniensisAuthor Website: AO3 / websiteWhy this must be read:The idea of the Leverage team pulling the classic Emperor's New Clothes con on Uther Pendragon is downright irresistible, and oxoniensis does a great job writing it. The reasoning behind the crossover is handwaved away, but watching Merlin waver between suspicious and horribly turned on due to Arthur's oblivious nakedness is hilarious. Arthur makes Merlin hang around while he's measured. It's pointless, as there are more than enough of them, and they're all far too well coordinated to need Merlin's help. So he leans against the wall, trying to stay out of the way, and most especially trying not to catch the eye of the blonde woman who keeps sneaking looks at him, almost as though she knows him. Or knows something about him. It's weird. Though possibly not as weird as the way the tall one, Master Hardison, keeps winking at him, as though they have a shared secret.
He also thinks it's a little odd that they don't have any fabric bolts, or any sample garments with them, but perhaps that's the way with royal tailors. Merlin wouldn't know. The Prince's New Clothes aka The Camelot Job
