01:27 am VID REC: The Sentinel – Everybody by Avrotciv8
Vidder: Avrotciv8
Musical artist: Ingrid Michaelson
Pairing: none
Vidder on LJ: unknown
Vidder’s Website: http://www.youtube.com/user/Ayrotciv8

Why this vid kicks ass: Because it reminds me of all the examples of simpatico between Jim and Blair, and how easy they are on the eyes. It’s just a very fun little vid I came across. Since I’m off having fun on holiday, it seemed appropriate that I should recommend something light and breezy.

The vidder says these are some of her favorite bits of the show. Mine too. Enjoy.

11:13 am The Act of Creation Will Be Your Salvation by scifigrl47 (R)
Fandom: AVENGERS
Pairing: Tony & Bots, Tony/Steve eventually, Pepper, Phil, Team
Length: 84,678 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] scifigrl47
Author Website: Author's AO3 Page
Why this must be read: The author's summary is this: "When Tony Stark was seventeen years old, he built his first AI. On that day, he ceased to be his father's creation, and became a creating force in his own right. / That one act likely saved his life, and not always in the most obvious ways."

I'm going to start with the same caveat I offered on my own recs page, which is that I think you need to know Avengers and Iron Man canons for some of the most important moments in this story to really resonate - and honestly, I love this story enough to say that if you haven't seen all three movies, you should probably go do that before starting to read, just to let the story work as well as it possibly can.

Either way through, this is really well done, and...man, you wouldn't imagine that a story half-narrated by AIs and robots would be able to pack such a powerful emotional punch, but yeah, it does. Potentially spoilery content information: Flashbacks to torture and deaths and loss, thoughts of suicide)

12:17 pm An Unusual Alternative (G) by tucuxi.
Fandom: Naruto
Pairing: No pairing, but involves (F) Hatake Kakashi, (F) Umino Iruka,Yamato.
Genre: Gen. Genderbent AU, politics.
Length: About 4,000 words.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tucuxi
Warnings: None.
Author Websites: Author's page on AO3.
Author Summary: Kakashi doesn't really mind kids: she just doesn't want to be out of the field for long enough to have one of her own. Tsunade proposes another option.

Why this must be read: Genderbent AU's are nothing new, there's loads of them in every fandom. Some are excellent, others sadly turn much loved characters into caricatures. I adore this story because the author keeps the characterisations of Kakashi and Iruka right on the mark even though they're both female. And the bonus is that this story is part of an ongoing series, Through the Looking Glass, all of which come highly recommended.

An Unusual Alternative by tucuxi.

Part of the Through the Looking Glass series.

02:57 pm VID REC: Death by X5649 (PG13)
So let's pretend today's still Friday as I'm sure it is somewhere in the universe. Was at work all day yesterday and out of town last night. So... A little late but here!

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: none
Vidder: x5649
Musical Artist: Jen Titus
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] x5649
Vidder’s Website: Youtube
Why this vid must be seen:

I really like the creepy atmosphere in this one, and how it digs into John's character. We see how so much death around him affects his outlook and on him as a character. The vid strongly insinuates that John is the harbinger of so much death and that is a very heavy burden for a man like John Shepherd to bear.

The editing of this vid with the use of color and syncing with the song is top notch. And oh that song! Any watcher of Supernatural will recognize it instantly and get this vid immediately. It's the theme song of a SPN character and that association really makes this vid with what it implies for John Sheppard.

04:28 pm I Live to Serve by Lizzie (PG)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: Short Story
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] caffyolay
Author Website: Lizzie's stories via Palelyloitering
Why this must be read: Lizzie is one of my favourite Pros writers - her lads are warm and affectionate with each other, somehow even when they're at odds, but they've lost none of their canon-selves, even in AU.

I Live to Serve is a version of House Party, posted online for the first time for the 2010 [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj Halloween challenge. In this AU story, Bodie is butler to Cowley's lord of the manor, and Doyle the innocent house-guest... or so it seems... *g* This is a fab little story for the run-up to All Hallow's Eve...

11:04 pm what keeps us together by youtooblondie (PG)

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: ~200 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] youtooblondie
Author Website: youtooblondie at starskyhutch911
Why this must be read:

According to one definition, poetry is "the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts." Well, this description fits [livejournal.com profile] youtooblondie's poems to perfection. Her work is lush and lyrical, sensual and evocative. They are, quite simply, exquisite word paintings of our beautiful boys.

I chose to feature what keeps us together for the utterly gorgeous use of language in passages such as:

what keeps us from falling
apart is falling into each
other's arms

and

into the long night we
hold and mend and heal
what through the long day
was run over and left for
dead
but really? Pick any of her poems at random, and you will find each one to be breathtaking and moving. Sometimes sad and wistful, sometimes intensely erotic, always rooted in love.
