Fandom: FRINGE
Characters: Olivia Dunham, Peter Bishop
Length: 2,130 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] templemarker
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

Because sometimes a fic appears just as you're compiling a recs list and demands to be included. This is a thoroughly charming flashback to season 1 (I would say "before things got complicated" but no, this is Fringe), and the first sparks of the Peter/Olivia relationship. This is the fic I'll go back and read when I need to remember how naturally and easily this relationship started.

(Technically a hockey RPF crossover, but mostly as a cameo.)

Why this must be read:    "Reese's training requires him to know more about Finch."  I will admit that this fic broke me a little, to say more than that I think would spoil it. Draycevixen is an author who knows the value of language, of nuance, and of gesture, whether that be writing the crackiest crack or skirting the darker edges of this fandom . She writes a Finch and Reese that can be readily identified, men very much marked by their experience.
This is part one of the Man with a Mission Series. I would strongly recommend you read both parts.

Extract
Reese isn’t always sure where his training ends and he begins, or even if anything of the man he was beforehand still exists. He wants to believe it does, wants to believe that Finch didn’t choose him just for his skill set, but then he's too much of a realist to waste much time wishing for the improbable.

I just realized that although White Collar has been rec'd here before, there is no Fandom Overview yet and that's why I wrote something up for it and will post it later this week. I'm still trying to edit a little something together to include it in my overview post, but I'm having trouble recording my voice (if anyone out there is a good reader and would like to help me out, please pm me).
For now, though, on with the recs.

Fandom: WHITE COLLAR
Pairing: gen, Neal & Peter
Length: 7,200 words

Author's Summary: Neal held it together while he was back in prison after Kate's death, but now that he's out? He would be fine if only he could sleep.

Why this must be read:

Emotional hurt/comfort is one of my favorite types of h/c - not that I'd say no to physical!whump either, and here, we have a perfect mixture of both: Neal's grieve, as the summary suggests, leads to physical!whump. But don't worry, the comfort parts don't come too short, either. Worried!Peter taking care of Neal is another favorite trope of mine and it is very well done in this fanfiction.
I really like embroiderama's writing style with vivid descriptions that made me feel for Neal. Instead, every night he slept like the dead and woke like lazarus but yearned for sleep the way he'd never let himself yearn for freedom, inside.
