10:59 am "The Unwritten Future" by Pouncer
Fandom: Terminator
Pairing: Sarah Connor/Kyle Reese
Length: ~5400 words
Author on LJ [livejournal.com profile] thepouncer
Author Website: The Carousel
Why this must be read: There are plenty of variations on "Kyle Reese lives" fic, though I like the take on this one, which doesn't let you forget that John was Kyle's commander before he was his son, and that Sarah and Kyle aren't so much deeply in love as thrown together and making the most of their reality. This story only takes T1 into account (and was written well before TSCC premiered), but I would've loved to see it extended to include and further complicate later events.

Besides, what could a woman so obviously pregnant do in a situation like this? )

Why this must be read:Jackson is a total douche nozzle. I think that even fans of Jackson can agree on that. One of his redeeming qualities, though, is his relationship with Danny (and no, I personally don't think that Jackson is Danny's type). This short fic is a conversation between Jackson and Danny and it's completely hilarious. It showcases the relationship between these two best friends wonderfully.

Awakening by The Tenth Muse1 (NC17)

Note from van driver: Yes I know I missed the crossover day yesterday, but sometimes real life steps in. Or should I say, trips and falls. My mother fell and hurt her entire right side, if her shoulder doesn’t get better, she could be facing surgery. If you could, lift up a thought for her. But it shouldn’t delay my stories again, I have several lined up now to just cut and paste. Now, on to enjoying the stories.

Why this must be read: This crossover of The Sentinel and NCIS shows Jim and Blair in the role of helping a fledging Sentinel and reluctant Guide find their way in this wonderful new world of smells, sights, touch, sounds, tastes and feelings. Yes, I know that is more than the regular five. And this is more than a regular story.
Summary: by author: NCIS/The Sentinel crossover. Tony comes home from a solo camping trip only to discover an overwhelming awakening in his senses. Blair and Jim help both Tony and Gibbs in learning to deal with being Sentinel and Guide

Why this must be read:

I love Teal'c fic where he's navigating Earth culture, especially fic that does so without falling into caricature of him as a fish out of water or too-easy pratfall humor. This is an excellent look at Teal'c immersing himself in the stories of his new home, in the compelling context of the stories of his life before SG-1.

11:05 pm All I Want for Christmas by xtexan86 (Rating: Mature)

Getting the crack van painted red with a white stripe took longer than I thought, but I'm hoping to make up for the late start as I finally start driving the van for Starsky & Hutch. As I considered how to approach this month's recs, I thought I'd focus on stories whose themes would usually not appeal to me--stories out of my comfort zone.

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 3936 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] xtexan86
Author Website: Archive of Our Own
Why this must be read:
In the Christmas-themed S&H episode, "Little Girl Lost," Hutch plays Scrooge to Starsky's Christmas elf. During their inevitable gift exchange, Hutch gives a disappointed Starsky a tree planted in his name to maintain his "principles." Addressing the underlying causes of their opposing attitudes has given the fandom a long list of Christmas-themed stories. I rarely read Christmas stories, so in keeping with my focus, I decided to rec some stories that broke through my inner Grinch.

In [livejournal.com profile] xtexan86's short story, the guys are facing their first Christmas as housemates. They've moved in together as Starsky struggles to recover from Gunther's assassination attempt. Starsky is still adjusting to the reality that he'll never be a cop again, while Hutch is studying for the lieutenant's exam. As they face these new challenges, more than their careers are changing. Their relationship is straddling the edge of a radical shift as well. Hutch is comfortable with his feelings. He knows he's in love with Starsky. But Starsky, who is facing so many life-changes not of his own making, is unsure. The push-pull between them is believable and poignant. There's no saccharin solutions here, just two real people trying to figure out who and what they are now that everything has changed, and how to love each other.
