Why this must be read: Told from Derek's perspective, "The Wind Speaks" follows our little band of post-apocalyptic heroes after they find the recently arrived John Connor and try to contend with his connection to each of them and to the mysterious no-last-name Sarah. It incorporates elements of the latter movies while staying firmly rooted in the TSCC continuity, and the characterization is right on, especially with Sarah.

He sounds sure, confident in that. Derek lets it go because there are so few things that Kyle is sure about anymore, he’ll let him have this one until the boy proves him wrong. )

Why this must be read:

This is such a perfect Sam Carter story, about her life a few years down the road, her relationships, her work, the decisions and choices she's made and how they define her world, from the first time she stepped through the gate until now, when she stands as the public face of the program.

Why this must be read:

I had to limit myself to only two Kanaya/Rose fics this month, or I'd end up spamming everyone with nothing but. This is the second one, and it's as lovely as the first. It's an AU, which I usually hesitate at recommending, and it's a Western AU, which I'd normally avoid on sight, but this one is well crafted and impressive. The characters are as flawed and human (or troll) as they are in the actual comic, the romance is sweet, and the friendships are both warm and vicious.

The setting itself is interesting too - set in a Western Alternia, the four beta kids are aliens from an alchemy experiment gone wrong. It's an great look at how different a human time period/place would look in troll culture. Even if you don't like AUs of this sort normally, I urge you to give it a try.
