FOR CRACK_VAN COLLISIONS DAY! Fandoms : due South ; A-Team No PairingsAuthor on LJ : ds_tiffAuthor Website : on AO3Why this must be read : Tiff is a masterful writer of due South gen fic, strong on meticulously detailed plot-lines and spot-on character voicing. Her first foray into cross-over shines with all the same fine skill of story-telling and characterization. “Pull over B A,” instructed Hannibal. “We don't want to upset the local PD. We need to keep a low profile while we're in this city.” B A growled under his breath and duly brought the van to a stop at the side of the road. He wound down the window as Ray and Fraser approached them.
“Chicago PD,” said Ray, flashing his badge, “my friend here informs me that you went through a stop sign back there. Can I please see your licence and registration.” B A growled at him. Ray's hand went for his gun, but Fraser put a firm hand on his friend's shoulder.
“Constable Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police,” Fraser introduced himself, with a smile. “We're very sorry to have stopped you Sir,” he continued, “but traffic violations of that nature resulted in fifty-seven deaths or serious injuries on the roads of Chicago in the first quarter of this year alone. We need to ensure that you are aware of the possible consequences of your actions.” B A growled again.
Face slid open the rear door of the van. “We're so sorry officer...oh, nice suit,” he stopped for a moment as he admired Ray's choice of apparel.
“Thanks, it's Armani,” said Ray....Different Ways of Doing Things

Fandom: TEEN WOLF Pairing: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski Length: 19,132 Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: AO3 and tumblr Why this must be read: This may be a Christmas fic, but its scope is wide enough that I don't feel weird reccing it in February. In it, Stiles decides to make everyone's Christmas gifts by teaching himself to crochet scarves. Along the way he meets my hands-down favourite OC of all time: Eleanor, the unconventional grandmother of one of his students. And through her, he gets an introduction to a Stitch'n'Bitch group full of more well-written OCs. There's something else mysterious going on with the group, and the gradual reveal is engaging and hilarious.
As a knitter myself, I love what extantecstacy does with the crafting in this fic. Also, in addition to the wonderful cast of OCs, the pack members are fleshed-out with all sorts of adorable details and Stiles relationship to each of them and the pack as a whole is fantastic. Worth mentioning is the 3-D portrayal of Erica and her friendship with Stiles and Derek being adoracreepy.

Fandom: TEEN WOLF / STARGATE: SG1 Pairing: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski Length: 16,869 (with another 3k fic in the series) Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: AO3 Why this must be read: This gem of a crossover features Stiles as a linguist with the SGC, Lydia as a physicist and Derek as a Luceren (shape-shifting alien) diplomat. The whole fic is fantastic and the voice is hilarious. Teen Wolf fans will love seeing the perfect ways the cast fits into the SGC. For Stargate fans, the fic is full of in-jokes that had me laughing out loud (including bullet-proof lab tables for the inevitable shoot-outs). But my favourite part was the Luceren culture, which is developed in a way I wish werewolf culture was on the show, and Stiles translating Derek’s body language (in both wolf and human form). The exploration of this culture and the development of Stiles’ relationship with Derek is framed by an action-filled Replicator take-over of the base that could be an episode of either show.

Fandom: Avengers Pairing: Steve/Tony, Clint/Natasha Length: 8,522 Rating: PG-13 Warnings: Spoilers for the movie Author on LJ: zihnaAuthor Website: zihna on AO3Summary: "You’re an idiot," Lucy says, watching him with her head between her paws, "just so you know." "Yeah," Steve mutters. "I know." Why this must be read: Zihna is one of the authors who keeps coming back to daemon AUs. She has several that are amazing (and I might rec more), but I find this to be my absolutely favorite Steve/Tony daemon fic. The characterization in this entire series is phenomenal. Everyone is fantastic, which is saying something considering this was written in the movieverse before the movie came out. It's a gorgeously written study on each of the characters, how they interact with each other, and how they view themselves. The daemons were obviously picked with great care, and they each bring out something hidden in their humans. Steve and Tony, in particular, are basically flawless. Their daemons interact in ways that had me alternating between angsting and squeeing. Zihna had great ideas for dealing with daemons for Natasha, Thor, and Loki that I found myself drawn to. If you're a fan of Avengers at all, you've got to check this one out. One important note here is that the concept of Dust from HDM is used in a rather important way. In case you don't know, Dust is the metaphysical/spiritual substance from which daemons are made out of. In HDM canon Dust represents sin (perhaps even original sin, Adam and Eve and all of that) and is considered a topic that is taboo--you don't talk about it, you don't study it, you don't even think about it. Hopefully that clears up some points in the fic! Dusty SoulsNote: This is (yet again) another series of fics that the author lists as WIPs but can actually be viewed as complete. I only have guesses as to why series of stand-alones are so popular in daemon AUs, but just know that (as with the others) each fic can be read apart from the others. This series does have a plotline running throughout, but it's a subtle one that isn't necessary to follow in order to enjoy each fic. The series is as follows: that by any other name, these days of dust that we've known, and the shade and the shadows thrown.

Fandom:STARSKY and HUTCH Pairing:starsky/hutch Length:26573 words Author on LJ: hutchlover mysticwhimAuthor Website:http://www.starskyhutcharchive.net/index.php Why this must be read: It is a wonderful first time love story between Starsky and Hutch. Starsky wants to dive right on in and Hutch needs to think it over and over and over. But in the end, Starsky gets "The End!" I love you," the gentle blonde whispered. "You old softie," Starsky whispered with a smile. "I love you too." "Starsky, I don't understand what's happening here. I can't think..." Hutch wanted to flee, afraid of what this was leading to, but afraid of damaging their friendship by walking out. He waffled, pulled to Starsky by his desires, pulled to the door by his fears. "It's okay, Hutch." Starsky could see the confusion in his friend's expression. "We're okay." Hutch smiled and walked out of the kitchen. Starsky was not surprised to see him grab his jacket as he headed for the door. As he was almost over the threshold, Hutch turned back to Starsky. "I need ...I need to think. I'll be back tomorrow; we'll talk." Starsky acknowledged him with a nod, and he was gone. Chrysalis

Fandom: STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE Pairing: Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi Length: 61k Author on LJ: corilannamAuthor Website: N/A but her TPM fiction can be found on Master & Apprentice ArchiveWhy this must be read: While helping Qui-Gon recover from his injuries, Obi-Wan anticipates his knighthood, but not without a final lesson from the Force and Qui-Gon. I love Cori's work; it's always thoughtful and balanced with true characterizations. I love the way this piece flows from angst to realization to love without being wordy or over-done. Classic Q/O at it's best. The monotonous rasp of the respirator continued, as it had for days. He would go mad from it soon, he was certain, if he had not already. But the prospect of the noise ceasing held far greater terror than mere insanity. Each wheeze of the precious and horrible machine scraped along his nerves; each pause between those wheezes stifled his own breath. Just when it seemed the pause had been too long, when he thought his lungs would stay frozen forever, the machine let out another asthmatic whoosh, and he inhaled with a gasp.
Artificial as it was, the rhythm of the breathing machine encouraged his mind to drift into a state of false peace. He dragged himself back with an effort. As soon as the blank trance left him, the reality hit again, and the terror returned. It roiled up through his gut and clogged his throat. He pushed down on it ferociously and shoved it back down until he could breathe again. He had long since given up on trying to release it into the Force. The Force seemed far, far away from where he was now. Theory of Flight

Fandom: PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS/HEROES OF OLYMPUS Pairing: Percy Jackson/Annabeth Chase Length: 5248 words Author on LJ: Nope. Author Website: on A03Why this must be read: This is not just a post- Mark of Athena story, but actually in theory takes up somewhere near the end of where House of Hades supposedly might go, so it's definitely spoilery. It deals with some of the complexities of post traumatic stress in an environment of fluff and friendship. There are terrifying flashbacks to the circumstances at the end of Mark of Athena that cause the post-traumatic stress. This is specifically a good one for someone who has read all the books but has not entered the fandom at all and would like a first fic as a good starting point with the main canon characters & pairing.
