She was created for the movie and by virtue of being awesome [and her actress being awesome] people pretty much fell in love with her. There are hundreds of fics where Darcy winds up with SHIELD, but this is one where you can see what SHIELD takes from her and what she uses [good advice here from Natasha, Maria other exceptionally awesome ladies in their own right] to fill in those holes. Excerpt“Would you like a job,” Phil Coulson asks her about a week after the dust has settled in New Mexico, and it doesn't sound like a question at all. She's been calling him nonstop for the past six days trying to get as much information—any information—that SHIELD might have on Thor as she can, and Coulson's apparently gone past annoyance into grudging admiration. “I could use someone with your particular skill set.”
“My skill set is making coffee, not burning the poptarts, and the ability to recite all of The Communist Manifesto from memory,” Darcy points out, because it's not like she can squish a robot or imitate bird calls or anything. She's not all that impressive, really.
“That and the complete inability to take no for an answer,” Coulson says. “That's something we can pretty much always use more of around here.”
Darcy thinks of Jane—pretty, tired, paper thin Jane—who's already been without Thor longer than she had him. Jane, who doesn't see her, waves her away when she tries to help, is so buried in her research and her pain that her world has narrowed to a laser fine focus that Darcy can't touch. How can she possibly leave her?

Merlin is one of the few fandoms in which I'm willing to read non-canon stories, mostly because it's a huge part of the fandom but also there are so many wonderfully talented writers doing modern!AUs. Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: Merlin/Arthur, Uther, Morgana Length: 9846 Author on LJ: reni_daysAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read:Summary: "Merlin sighs. "After your...announcement," he explains, "your father decided he needed a bit more information. Which is apparently where I come in. I'm sort of like his gay tutor, it's hard to explain."Equal parts sweet and laugh-out loud hilarious, this brilliantly details how Merlin finds himself giving advice to Uther who is trying to deal with the fact that his son is gay. The author does a fantastic job in showing that regardless of how bigoted Uther may be, at the end of the day he cares about his son. But the best part of the story is Merlin and Uther's unique "friendship" which is both touching and amusing. I love the push and pull between these two men as they try to understand each other. You don't even need to know much about Merlin to enjoy this story, so go read it! For Your Information | | |

Fandom: Skyfall Pairing: James Bond/Q Length: 2,826 Rating: PG-13 Warnings: spoilers for the movie, angst Author on LJ: Author's Website: CallicoKitten on AO3 and LowkeyLyesmiths on FFN Summary: Its MI6 protocol that every agent must undergo separation from his or her daemon. Luckily James and Shylah never have been that close. Why this must be read: I know I rec'd this author yesterday, but this fic is simply too great to pass up. The plot focuses on James' angst, covering everything from outside events to his struggle to accept himself--shown in an incredibly moving way by his relationship with his daemon. Each character gets at least one scene, and they all simply jump off the page with characterization and engaging drama. It's hard to say much without giving it away, but this fic basically covers the movie plotline with daemons, including some additional scenes. I have to add that even though Q isn't in this fic much, I absolutely loved what was done with him and his relationship with his daemon. Great interaction and meaning abound. gruff old dogNote: This is another first in a series, but I'm only reccing this as a one-shot. Why this must be read:
This is a great little role reversal AU that features Derek as a reclusive hunter and Stiles as the werewolf he finds caught in a trap. When I say little I’m only referring to the word count, because SonOfALich manages to pack a great plot into less than 10,000 words. The interaction between Derek, who doesn’t know that his new roommate anything other than a normal wolf, and Stiles is priceless, especially Stiles’ one-sided growled conversations with an uncomprehending Derek. I really liked Derek’s realistic reaction to finding out Stiles wasn’t just a wolf and the fact that the role reversal extended to Stiles being the creeper instead of Derek.
