07:14 am STAR WARS / MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. (NC-17)
Title: The Disturbance in the Force Affair
Pairings: Illya Kuryakin/Napoleon Solo, Han Solo/Luke Skywalker
Length: Novella
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ladyra
Author Website: Visions of Pretty Boys
Why this must be read:

As a crossover, this succeeds with plenty of a/plot and b/characterization and c/juxtaposition of the GFFA with Our Galaxy. Along with a nifty website, [livejournal.com profile] ladyra gets my vote as a top multi-fandom author with a charming introduction on her site: "Happy Endings, All the Time. Seriously. Medium Angst, always with lots of payoff. No partner betrayals, no rapes, no unrecoverable injuries, just love love love. And some sex." So much to like, to savor about each universe she portrays, the timeless one of Star Wars and the Twentieth Century one of Man from U.N.C.L.E, that this rec is one of the easiest I've ever made.

11:49 am "A Widow's Tale" by Mhalachai (G)
Fandom: The Avengers (movieverse)/Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: Natasha/Clint but mostly gen
Length: ~43K words
Author on LJ: mhalachaiswords
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: I've never watched any of the Stargate series, and in fact would not have know who John Sheppard is had the story not been tagged as a crossover. So if you're coming to this just as an Avengers fan, never fear!

"A Widow's Tale" is a series (43K-ish words total, and can really be taken as one long story) that assumes movieverse!Natasha was, like her comicsverse self, modified and conditioned in certain physical ways by the Red Room. The series is a fascinating balance between history and present, and between chosen and actually-genetically-related families. Above all, it's a fascinating look at the woman behind the Black Widow, and the things she carries with her.

Flowers in her long red hair, light in her eyes and happiness on her face, the woman in the old photograph was the same woman who sat across a grave from him in widow's weeds. )

06:25 pm Passing the Torch by Caliecat (PG13)
Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-0 (NEW)
Pairing: author says Gen, but so slashably good...
Length: 3,975 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] caliecat
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

Author's Summary : After she meets Steve, Rachel discovers that Danny is in good hands. Extended coda to Episode 1x10, Heihei.

This fic is a Rachel POV, something that would usually make me cringe and not read. But Calie just breathes life into and makes her a character I can love and completely understand. She's more human in this and I get why she does what she does. Her reasoning for why their marriage didn't work sounds so right for their characters. And boy do I love her POV on Steve, his strengths, insecurities, and how deeply he cares for her child and ex-husband. A lovely character piece that makes a character shine that so many in fandom hate, an individual with her own insecurities, her own take on things, and who has love and honor all her own.

06:36 pm The Sentinel/ Northern Exposure (mature)
Title: Northern Sentinel Exposure by Scribe (mature)
Fandoms: THE SENTINEL, Northern Exposure
Pairings: Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg, Chris/Ed(implied)
Length: 14,782
Author on LJ Not Known
Author website: Scribescribbles
Or stories at WWOMB

Why this must be read:
I was predisposed to like this story by the simple fact it was a crossover where I actually knew both shows well, which doesn't happen very often. Added to that it was by Scribe, whose writing I always enjoy. This is a fun, light hearted read with a lot of gentle humour. Read it and you'll feel like you've been on vacation, too.

Author's summary: On a vacation trip through Alaska, Jim and Blair are a little befuddled when they land in a place where their situation isn't necessarily considered the oddest thing around. Welcome to Cicely, fellas.

10:58 pm Nightmares by Vermin_Disciple (PG-13)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH/BUFFY
Pairing: Mostly ensemble gen (but contains Ray Kowalski/Stella Kowalski and George Fraser/Martha Fraser)
Length: 9,300 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] vermin_disciple
Author Website: Author on AO3
Why this must be read: Crossover day! I don't know Buffy except by fandom osmosis, but that didn't matter. Perhaps surprisingly for a crossover story of this kind, it starts out with backstory: Fraser growing up with his grandparents, who are Watchers; Ray Vecchio and the monsters of childhood, human and otherwise; and young Ray Kowalski and Stella, venturing further into the night than they should have. Then we get three scenes from their adult lives, as well (and that's where you probably get more out of it if you know Buffy, since some of the Buffy characters appear, but I really enjoyed them anyway).
