Why this must be read: Ah, Caroline. Perhaps the one character who didn't so much improve in the retelling. For better or worse, her role in the LBD is functional. She's not the protagonist of any story we see. "Trout Heart Replica" is by far the best counter to that I've read. It doesn't "redeem" Ms. Lee per se, but it does present her perspective in a frank, raw, and unapologetic way.

I really liked seeing Teyla through this author's eyes and how she sees the world. She's the strong and determined leader we know and love, ready to face whatever the Pegasus galaxy wishes to sling her way right alongside her people. How she compares the Atlantians and her own people are insightful and thought-provoking. It's interesting to see how different circumstances have shaped the two cultures as they both look into a future together. Whatever may come, the courageous Teyla will be there to lead the way.

Gwen goes to anonymous cuddle parties because she is often chilled. She makes friends, art metaphors, and a special friend.

It's the middle of the week, so it feels like a good time for one of the most comfort-fic-y comfort fic I have.

This is one of the fluffiest and heart-warming fics I can stand where my teeth don't ache from the sweetness. The entire fic consists of cuddle parties where Gwen hugs people and comes up with stories about the familiar faces around her.

She’s the girl who grew up with a crack in her wall — she almost remembers it, in a kind of not-way that can’t be pinned down.

I love with when Whovian writers try to put all the different timelines together.

It’s Amy and Rory through The Year That Never Was. Of course Amy (and Rory) with all her strength and resourcefulness, would find a way to survive the end of the world with the Toclafane on Earth. It’s an Amy who still remembers her Raggedy Man, who hasn't lost the little bit of faith she still carries around. A lovely appearance by Martha Jones as she travels the earth, and some great apocalyptic world building.
And the kicker- the year may have been reversed so it never happened, but some people are still left who maybe not-quite remember it.

DUKE: Audrey come on, don't you just look around this madhouse sometimes and think, "I gotta grab the first flight out of here. Go to some secret island where nobody does anything, wears anything. Nobody turns into anything unnatural.

Last time was the innocent sweetness of Nathan/Audrey. Here's some Duke/Audrey.

No real spoilers except for what the arc of season 3 is. Not like the actual story line, just like the setup of 'X might happen at the end of the season!' where X is kind of like fate/destiny, and some people refuse to let go of their ability to make choices.
Maybe there’s something to be said for running away.

Duke and Audrey have a dynamic on the show where (when there isn't terrible drama) they tend to loosen up and get comfortable around each other. And sometimes they make vague references to emotions and inner turmoil to each other unlike some relationships on this show and others where everyone just clamps right down on everything. They fell into being laughy giggly friends and are pretty supportive of each other.

The relationship that's on this display in this fic is absolutely gorgeous. Two people get out of a tense, toxic situation and maybe the world seems like sunshine again.

Why this must be read:
Duke and Nathan used to be friends -- more than friends. When they were, getting out of Haven seemed like the only way to get free of their history there, but getting out and leaving it behind prove to be two very different things.

To round out the trio of ships because it can all work in whatever combination, here's Duke/Nathan.

I felt this pairing needed something a little lengthier because these two characters have so much history together. Audrey gets into Haven in the first episode of the show and develops relations that we see as the show goes on. But these two boys grew up and spent so much of their lives aware of each other before Audrey ever walked into town.
This lengthy behemoth felt kind of perfect for conveying that.

It’s entirely pre-series, starting from when they were teenagers and friends (and a whole lot more) and how their families and lives led them to where they ended up at the start of the series - not friends, kind of hating each other.
In a way, it’s a slow build to mild angst considering we know at the beginning of the series, they’re at each other’s throats half the time. On the other hand, it presents such a deep pool of background story for two characters that wouldn't reveal it themselves.

I think this fic was written before the season 2 episode 'Sins of the Fathers' where we learn about what roles Duke and Nathan's fathers' had the last Trouble cycle when the previous incarnation of Audrey was in town, and what roles Duke and Nathan are supposed to have now. This fic feels a little more tragic for me in light of that episode.
