Fandom: FRINGE Characters/Pairings: Peter Bishop Length: 1932 words Author on LJ: maddie_amberAuthor Website: unknown Why this must be read:Because in canon all we really get about how Peter feels about his short double universe hop is given to us in a brief exchange between him and Walter at the end of 2x23 "Over There Part 2," which while good isn't much. In Season 3 the ordeal is skipped over in favour of the new plot arc with Alt!Olivia and we never get anything more there. This fic leads on from that end of S2 moment and gives us a look into the conflict Peter must still feel about how both Walter's have changed his life now, as well as his regret for what has been done to not only him but the other world and his mother. Fandom: Bandom (My Chemical Romance, with cameos from other bands) Pairing: Alicia Simmons/Mikey Way Length: 4,994 words Author on LJ: inlovewithnightAuthor Website: at the AO3Why this must be read: It was written for no_tags 2013, to the prompt of Alicia Way: Demon Hunter (retired). Fandom: Doctor Who Pairing: River Song/The Doctor, Amy Pond/Rory Williams, Martha Jones/Mickey Smith, Ninth Doctor/Rose Tyler Length: ~95K words Author on LJ: irony_rocksAuthor Website: Master listWhy this must be read: James Bond-style spy AU featuring the whole NewWho gang. Do I really need to say more? (In case I do: Irony's one of those authors who writes almost everything better than almost anyone, and this entry is no exception. When I found "A Game of Equals" for the first time, I literally disrupted my entire Sunday to keep reading it. That awesome. The translation of all the characters into a spy setting is delightful--I particularly love the code names to distinguish between the AU versions of the Doctors.) ( He grinned. Oh, he already liked her. Shame he was going to have to throw her back in prison. )A Game of Equals

Fandom: TEEN WOLF Pairing: Allison Argent/Erica Reyes, Lydia Martin, Melissa McCall, Scott McCall, Derek Hale Length: 2400 Author on LJ: escritoireazulAuthor Website: At AO3Why this must be read: This is a fabulous fic that gets us inside of Allison's head. It's not a pretty place in season 2 and the fans were left with a lot of questions about how Allison went from point A to point F. This fic addresses some of those issues as well as the smoking hot chemistry between Allison and Erica. Erica drags her chair closer – too close – until her legs press against Allison’s, and the heat from her body makes Allison’s skin prickle. “Chemical reactions,” she murmurs, too low for anyone else to hear. “Mix and spark. Sometimes they fizzle out.” Warm breath against her neck, and when the hell did she get that close? “Sometimes they burn.”
It’s so wrong – werewolf hunter and werewolf, and she really loves Scott, even after everything – but for a second, all she wants to do is grab Erica and burn.
2.
Allison sits on the edge of her bed, feet tucked back into the shadows, watching the creep of moonlight across the roof and in through her window. Somewhere outside beneath that great white light, Scott runs, maybe with the others, and she can’t separate one terrible emotion from the next.
The moonlight catches the mirror, the sharp tips of her arrows scattered haphazardly across the desk, and it washes over her.
She is nothing like them, the monsters she knows and the ones she does not. She is nothing like them at all, and yet, the moon, so big and so bright, it makes her feel angry and strong. She knows what it does to them, the animals it calls, and her body wants to respond.
Hunter, hunted, and she is no prey. like smoke across fire

Fandom: PERSON OF INTEREST Pairing: none in forefront; background Carter/Reese and OMC/OMC Length: 5000 Author on LJ: blacktop50Author Website: masterlist on LJ or fic posted to ff.netWhy this must be read: While blacktop50's stories often focus on Carter/Reese, many of her stories delve into other areas. "A Fine Death" mentions an established relationship, but it's more of a character study of Reese, and of the new number's life... and death. Blacktop's usual gorgeous prose and interesting characters--both canon and original--make this worth the time to read, as well as the historical background used within the fic. (One character in the story is based loosely on Bayard Rustin.) A Fine Death on LJ or on ff.net

I saw Iron Man 3 yesterday and it was AWESOME. But I was up late and now I'm tired, so you get the art rec I had waiting in the wings, because I already had the entry typed up and formatted. Fandom: Avengers comic!verse Pairing: None (gen) Length: n/a Author on LJ: dangwhymeAuthor Website: None that I could find Author’s Summary: Art fill for a prompt: Prompt #14: "Even you have to admit it's at least a little cool. I mean, just how often do you get to see a real live dragon in New York City?" Universe: MA Things you'd like to see: The entire team working together to save the day, accidental nudity of some sort. Things you don't want: Anything too dark; character bashing of any sort. Warning for non-sexual, non-frontal cartoon nudity. Why this must be read: So, yes, there is a comment fic by me for this picture. I’m not reccing that. I'm reccing the hilarious cartoon by dangwhyme because this is probably my absolute favorite piece of fanart for anything Marvel comics or film related. My initial reaction to it went like this: So adorable. I love Wolverine ("Uh...I'm kinda stuck here") and the Hulk just hanging on ("Smash dragon!....Why dragon not smashed?"), poor Spidey just carried along for the ride ("Maybe I can grab the corner of that building if we just get close enough..."), Thor and Storm looking like they wish they could fly a little faster("Halt, thou dragon...oh crap oh crap oh crap fly away NOW!").
I think I may need to make this my computer background. For the record, I did indeed make this picture my desktop background for a while. Art by dangwhyme

Fandom: HOCKEY RPF Pairing: None really, implied Jeff Carter/Mike Richards Length: 3000 Author on LJ hapakitsuneAuthor Website: on AO3Why this must be read: While I'm a big fan of the 'reunited and it feels so good' storyline of Jeff Carter and Mike Richards because of its sheer awesome implausibility, I have to admit that Carter's epic sulk wasn't very pretty. Not many authors delve into the other side of that whole trade debacle to get the perspective of the team that Carts so thoroughly spurned, but hapakitsune does in this tale. Told from the POV of Rick Nash, the man who was forced to deal with Carter, the story has a melancholy tone with Nash knowing he can't save Columbus and neither can Carter. Nash is the captain, so he tries to make things right, but events get away from him. This is a story about acceptance - of fate, of ineptitude, of loss - and struggling to succeed anyway. Fandom: STAR TREK REBOOT Pairing: Kirk/Spock with a McCoy assist Length: ~5k Author on LJ: aldora89Author Website: Aldora89's Master List on LJWhy this must be read:I didn’t MEAN to rec two works by the same author, but this fic is so damn HAWT, I had to. The setup: Jim, Bones and Spock get a little lit on Valentine’s Day and then there is sex. But, MAN WHAT SEX THERE IS: Jim convinces Bones to allow Spock to meld with him while Jim sexes up Bones. Beyond the hotness, though, is Spock’s utter abandon and joy in at last getting to feel - both the physical sensations as well as Bones’ emotions - and in the process he is able to let his own inhibitions go and admit his love for Jim. And Bones, because he’s the best friend of ever obligingly lets Spock take control of his body and, in the process, helps these two crazy kids get together. Oh, and he gets ridden hard and put away wet as a bonus. Basically, Bones is one great friend to have. ( Here’s a snippet… )Vicarious on LJ

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: none Length: approx. 4000 words Author on LJ: unknown
K Hanna Korossy is a wonderful and prolific writer, and she excels at hurt/comfort. Thirty Minutes is a great example of her work. It’s a tightly written account of the first half hour after Starsky's been shot in a bank robbery -- told from Starsky's point of view as he fades between the grave reality of his rescue and dreamlike recollections of a falling-out with Hutch, all with the thirty-minute clock running.
From Thirty Minutes:
0:00 He didn't realize at first he'd been shot.
The blow hit him hard in the chest, unbalancing him, but Starsky had staggered on a few steps more before his mind caught up with his body. That had been a bullet, not a random bump from the chaos of bodies around him. He stared down in disbelief at the growing stain of red on his chest. I love this shirt.
And then his knees unlocked and he toppled gracelessly onto the road. Thirty Minutes

Fandom: NARUTO Pairing: Naruto/Sasuke Length: one-shot at 3,865 words Author on LJ: sugahleiAuthor Website: FF.net profile page has fic and links to three other fic archives and the author's LJ Why this must be read: D'awww! This fic is a sweet, sticky gem. The author did a fine job of slowly shifting from Naruto simply wanting a full night's sleep to his wanting to comfort Sasuke from his nightmares, and then the gradual change to something more. I was particularly touched by Naruto worrying about Sasuke's reaction to the kyuubi inside him. This is great comfort fic, if you're feeling down and want to read something tender.
