Why this must be read:
John opened the closed record that Stargate Command had on him and skipped over its content: "Dr John Sheppard, Civilian Consultant to the U.S. Air Force, member of SG-1, PhD in Applied Mathematics and PhD in Computer Science, gifted mathematician with a penchant for stealing, trustworthy." A small, satisfied smirk crooked John's lips. He struck the last part out and added a correction in red: "Gifted thief with a penchant for mathematics, not to trust." He saved the document and erased all traces of his presence in the system. It'd take a while for McKay to figure out that John had found yet another weakness in the SGC network. He ordered pizza and waited for the rest of the SG-1 to arrive. It was Mitchell's turn to pick the movie.

AU- John Sheppard as a chaotic neutral(ish) mathematician genius criminal. Who ends up working for the SGC as Rodney’s math assistant and catches SG-1’s attention, mostly in a friendly way.
It’s an interesting and different take on John Sheppard, one who’s putting all his talents to use and is used to coming out on top. He have to be a little more on his toes when he’s spending time with a mountain fill of geniuses/highly competent people. And Sheppard is mostly in it for the thrills and the payday until he starts making some real friends. Fantastic General O'Neil in this fic as well.

Why this must be read: I am not a fan of AUs. Let me rephrase that, when a fandom is fantasy/sci-fi I am not a fan of all human AUs. This isn't an all human AU and Derek is still a werewolf, therefore I was willing to give it a shot. What I found was a completely charming, admirably in-character, feel good fic that features Derek spending most of his time as a wolf post the discovery of Laura's death. Wolf Derek comes across a skinny, not-nearly-thick-enough furred young fox trying to catch something to eat. The fox fails, the wolf helps, and an unlikely friendship is born. It's AWESOME.

Derek watches the fox struggle with the small rodent for a few moments longer, then whuffs in amusement and continues down his path. Were he human in that moment, he might have thought of the youtube videos that such a scene would spawn, but Derek is not. Like this, Derek cares about the rustles of the forest, the murmurs of the stream a mile away, the distant hum of bugs in the night.

A tiny, rapid, heartbeat sounds below him, and Derek reflexively shoots out a paw, catching a mouse -the mouse- by its tail. It hadn’t been his plan to eat, but Derek’s wolf never says no to such freely offered sustenance. Winter is always coming, so it is always wise to eat when possible. That’s just logic. Derek snaps the mouse’s neck -quick, always be quick- and is ready to toss the mouse between his jaws when a low whine sounds behind him.

It’s the fox, of course, crouched low to the ground, tail wagging expectantly behind him.

Food. The wolf will have his food.

A whine.

It doesn’t matter what the fox wants. The fox is prey too. Maybe the fox is next.

Derek can see the fox’s ribs, visible through his red fur. Is the fur as thick as it should be? Autumn is just setting in, and the fox barely has enough for summer.

Derek tosses the mouse at the fox, who yips in delight and pounces. Derek is reminded of his younger brother Travis, who was such an excitable boy that anything new for him from the store, be it an ipod or be it socks, was the best thing to happen that day.

Why this must be read: This one is a lovely fun read - you have to squint to see the slash, but the deep and complex relationship between the two lads is shown in loving detail.

The dialogue and pace are perfect, full of wonderful moments and descriptions that stay in your mind (my reminder note to myself reads simply 'the one with the sleeping bag that bristles' *g*). Doyle in particular is on form - blowing hot and cold, sarky, temperamental, terrible jokes... high maintenance personified; and Magenta's Bodie is totally up for the task.

It's a story that'll have you smiling all the way, and bookmarking if you haven't already. Enjoy!

Why this must be read: "Baby Blue" is that episode--the episode with name recognition, where everyone instantly recalls the plot. This story takes a brief moment from within that episode, and fills it with some nicely comic reflections. Sweet without being out of character for both Reese and Finch.

Why this must be read: Poignant and powerful, this fic makes me tear up every time I read it. I'd often wondered how well Gai would age, given his extreme fighting style. I'm glad this fic gives him the chance for a satisfying ending. And his continuing friendship with Kakashi is icing on the good!fic cake. ^^ I like where this one ends, too. It's one of the rare occasions when I'm happy there is not a sequel. [set after fanon version of the fourth war, Gai is 62]
