12:30 am I'd Do It Again If I Could by jendavis (PG-13)
Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: Sheppard/Dex
Length: 4390
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jendavis
Author Website: Ao3
Why this must be read:
It always starts the same way, and almost always ends the same way, too.

Groundhog-day fic with Ronon as the trapped party fighting again and again to save Atlantis from exploding. The SG-1 episode is referenced, and it’s similar in structure in that the only one who’s aware of what’s going on doesn’t have the technical knowledge to fix it. And he’s having a lot of trouble convincing the people around him to not react to threats the way they’re trained to.

10:16 am missing pieces of you by loz
Fandom: TEEN WOLF
Pairing: Scott McCall/Stiles Stilinski
Length: 11,320
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lozenger8
Author Website: at AO3
Why this must be read: When fandom appears to have OTP sickness like TW does, lots of interesting and sub-textually viable pairings get left behind for only the truly dedicated to discover. I find that sad. I *always* find it sad when one pairing gets the majority of the attention because it's so limiting and fandom IMO should never be limiting.

In that spirit, I bring you a fantastic Scott/Stiles future fic. It's in Scott's POV right after he first gets to college and begins to discover himself. It's a great fic, and if you're sick to death of the OTP it's a breath of fresh air.

I had a blast driving the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van this month. See you next time around!

They ease into familiarity eventually, although it takes longer than Scott would ever have thought. The tension between them reminds him of when he and Isaac first started getting close and that’s just wrong.

Last time they hung out, they were at Berkeley, and Stiles has only been to Davis once before, back when Scott had no real clue where anything was, so after their run, they go on a tour of all Scott’s favorite places, meet up with one of his core groups of friends; Jake, Skye and Taelah. The run was good just like Scott thought it would be, but he’s calmer when they’re walking and relaxing around other people, and he can’t put his finger on why.

Stiles is granted the same wide-eyed response from everyone and he doesn’t get it, at all. Certainly not to the point where Taelah frowns and mutters about life being unfair. He’s shown them pictures before. They’re all facebook friends. But he guesses Stiles looks different in person. He can be totally photogenic when the mood strikes him, but it usually doesn’t, and he seems to take great joy in pulling the most ridiculous face he can whenever a camera is within three yards. Scott has countless photos of Stiles in turtle mode, or mid-roar, or doing his best impression of a duck.

It’s mostly bizarre because Scott knew Stiles was good-looking before Stiles did. During one of many instances of Stiles’ self-conscious whining that no one would ever want to touch him, it was no wonder Lydia ignored every fiber of his being, Scott sat them down in front of a mirror and cataloged all that a girl could fall in love with, even if she was shallow. He sat behind him, traced his fingers lightly over his features, pointed out every little perfection. He started with Stiles’ large and soulful eyes, continued on with his adorable ski-jump nose, and concluded with his seriously kissable lips. They were fourteen, and they were both awkward for about a week afterwards, but Stiles held himself taller after that, started taking more risks. It worked, he thinks.

Yes, Stiles has grown into himself. He’s angled where once he was rounded, he’s broad-shouldered where once he was reedy, muscular where once he was thin. But he’s always had this potential and Scott doesn’t understand why it’s now so remarkable.

Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: (Anakin/Padmé, others)
Length: (87,000 words)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kelaria
Author Website: Kelaria on AO3
Why this must be read:

A hilarious romp, combining parody, wit, and invention. Hands-down my favorite laugh-out-loud fic and the first fic I recommend to any "newbies" to fandom. It's been a long time in the works and I've been crossing my fingers all month that it would be completed on my watch because, selfishly, I have wanted to rec it for so long - and yesterday Kelaria posted the final chapter! Go read it and give the author some love. :)

12:00 pm The Cartland Factor by The Hag (PG-13)

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: 2,800 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hagsrus
Author Website: On AO3
Why this must be read: This one I'm reccing just because it's fun, it's fluffy, it's as light as a feather and it won't go to your hips.

'The Cartland Factor' makes gentle fun of those bodice rippers and gaudy romance paperbacks, while never crossing the line into mocking - it allows you to smile at yourself. The lads are delightfully drunk, and get more so as they're plied with booze by two wonderfully wicked ladies. Bodie gets his (gentle) comeuppance, and Doyle gets his man... and we get to grin and enjoy pure fluff without any guilt - or the hangover. *g*

01:31 pm "Before, An Ellipsis" by tcbg77 (PG-13)
Fandom: FRINGE
Characters/Pairings: Ella Dunham, Rachel Dunham, Olivia Dunham
Length: 9316 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tcbg77
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:

Because this is a slow continuation of the greyverse into that future we got a brief view of in 3x22 and it is most wonderfully shown through Ella Dunham who is a beautifully developed character in this. I may have a soft spot for non-main character points of view but I really think Ella, with her growing understanding of all that is happening, suits the flow of the story here so incredibly well and fills in a number of details the show could only gloss over in the one episode this verse got. There's also very lovely Rachel & Ella relationship in this as well as Olivia & Ella interaction.

02:50 pm Withdrawal, Withdrawal Too, Antidote by Maaaaa (Gen, Angst)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg
Length: 2572 words
Author on LJ: Not known
Author’s website: http://asr3.slashzone.org/archive/index.php

Why this must be read:
A really intriguing format for a sad, angsty, but ultimately reassuring little story – really three ficlets designed to be read together. I like the way Maaaaa has used stream-of-consciousness to convey the despair, panic, anger and terror, and at the base of it all the reliance, trust and love. It stays in the mind long after.

03:33 pm "rejoiced in the hopeless, we loved under atomic skies" by your_bespoke_psychopath (PG)
Apologies for my absence over the last week and a half--sometimes real life dares to interfere with fandom life. The nerve of it, I know. Anyways, I've still got a few more recs up my sleeve for you lot...enjoy!

Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairing: River Song/The Doctor
Length: 5903 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Tumblr
Why this must be read: This is a fic that opens up myriad worlds of its own while sketching the in-between moments--canonical and otherwise--of River and the Doctor's strange and wonderful relationship. It's heartfelt and funny and tear-inducing, not to mention timey-wimey in all the best ways. Headcanon accepted.

River, is it a bow tie on your bed? What is a bow tie doing there? Your male visitor wears bow ties as well? Ha! Wait. It looks a bit like one of mine. River, what is my bow tie doing on your bed? )

08:31 pm A Heap of Broken Images (the digital life remix) by glim (G)
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur Pendragon
Length: 1395
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] glimmergirl
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:
Summary: "Arthur finds a picture online."

Remixes stories can sometimes be difficult to write.  There is a thin line between staying true to the original yet still giving your own twist on the story.  In "A Heap of Broken Images (the digital life remix)", [livejournal.com profile] glimmergirl succeeds on both accounts.  The result is a poignant, somewhat bittersweet piece on destiny, waiting and needing to let go and a wonderful remix to the equally lovely "Imperfect Picture" by [livejournal.com profile] xsmoonshine.

10:35 pm "talking for the dead" by Fahye (G)
Fandom: NARUTO
Pairing: Sai gen, with background Sakura/Naruto
Length: one-shot at 862 words
Author on LJ: Dreamwidth, username fahye
Author Website: AO3 works page
Why this must be read: This fic is a perfect example of not dismissing a fic just because it's under 1k in length and has the lightest rating.

"Talking for the dead" punches me in the gut every time. It's an excellent dark!fic that's a character study of Sai and his observations of Naruto and Sakura. Very powerful, and sad, and pretty much perfect. *wince* Oh damn, that ending! [set after Sai's intro to the team]
