Why this must be read:

I'm not an h/c fan myself, but I've heard many a fan complain about being shortchanged in the SH 2-part episode, The Plague. One minute Hutch is hovering near death and Starsky is running all over creation to find a cure, and the next minute, Hutch has recovered, and he and Starsky are delivering Hutch's pretty doctor to the airport. After all that hurt, what happened to our comfort? Paula Wilshe's "Applesauce" gives us some of the moments we missed. Hutch, still hospitalized, is out of danger, but pretty sick. He asks Starsky for some cold applesauce to soothe his throat, partly hoping that Starsky will go home and finally get some sleep himself.

07:33 am This Machine Called Man by tartanfics (PG-13)
Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: Gen
Length: 29086
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tartancravat
Author Website: Ao3
Why this must be read:
London, 2081. John Watson, former army roboticist, has an expired licence and an illegal tri-wing screwdriver in his desk. Sherlock Holmes has fingerprints and a name, and in an office somewhere in Whitehall there are blueprints for the metal underneath his perfect, artificial skin.

Sherlock is an android, and pretty much has exactly the same personality, just with even less reasons to eat and more reasons to rub almost everyone the wrong way. Only Sherlock is a little too human to be a normal android, and he knows he wants John Watson around to repair any possible damage he could accrue. John Watson, still the wounded ex-soldier, finds a taste for Sherlock’s brand of adventure (as he always does), and comes out the other side of their first few days of acquaintance giggling at crime scenes with a robot. Even though it's a robot/kind of cyberpunk AU, the characters are similar enough to their canon counterparts that the addition of robots seem only slightly out of the ordinary.

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Dean/Cas, Sam/Jess
Length: 101,899
Author on LJ:
Author Website: Ao3
Why this must be read:
What if Dean went to Sam at Stanford for help trying to find their father, and Sam said no?

Told in 6 chapters/parts. (Easy break poins.)
An AU where Dean hits the road by himself, Sam never loses Jess, and everyone seems a little more mature and less damaged (including John Winchester). Hunters get smart (yay, less deaths), Dean still meets Castiel, and Sam & Jess get their happy (maybe a little soon for an ending, more like not-tragic ongoing) life. Sam staying at Standford, building himself a normal life, doesn't mean he’s left out of the loop altogether- there’s Agent Henriksen around looking into Dean, and John Winchester bringing himself around to reconnecting with Sam. Dean’s arc kind of stays the same- hell, resurrection, meeting Castiel, and getting together with his family to stop the apocalypse, but he's far less damaged than he could be. The story speeds through the equivalent of seasons 1-3 fairly quickly (in the first chapter) and Lucifer reigns as the big bad.

11:34 am "Ending on the Rhyme" by devlinacardigan (PG)
Fandom: Parks and Recreation
Pairing: Donna Meagle/Jean-Ralphio Saperstein
Length: 2944 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] devlinacardigan
Author Website: Tumblr

Why this must be read: Okay, I know what the pairing says, but bear with me. It works. Told from Jean-Ralphio's inimitable perspective, this piece is an engaging mixture of sad and swag, and the guy has never been written better.

Even Tom calls with some story of a chick picking him up in the Target's parking lot when he was on his way over and Jean-Ralphio lets them all off the hook as gracefully as he can. )

05:14 pm A Very Merry Life Day by patientalien (K+)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Characters: Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Length: ~1500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] patientalien
Author Website: FFN profile
Why this must be read:

This story illustrates the dynamic between Anakin and Obi-Wan in a domestic setting and explores the way that Ahsoka is incorporated into that dynamic during the Clone Wars. The three of them form an unsurprisingly dysfunctional family, and like many families, the holiday can easily be classified as a hot mess. Ahsoka tries to salvage the situation, and, at least from a certain point of view, her noble efforts are not in vain. The characterizations feel amusingly authentic - Anakin is obnoxious, as per usual, poor Obi-Wan is long-suffering and just wants to get drunk, and Ahsoka is a good, self-sufficient little Padawan.

Also, I strongly recommend that you check out the other fics by this author. Hers were among the first I read when I stumbled into the wonderful world of fanfic slightly more that a year ago. Enjoy.
