Fandom: SUPERNATURAL Pairing: Dean/Cas Length: 49,074 (first “part”), 76,583 (with extras and more chapters) Author on LJ: Author Website: Ao3Why this must be read:That time the universe decided Dean belonged with Cas and wasn't afraid to pull out the big guns to make it so. Big guns in this case being obsessive fangirls, archangels turned tricksters and overly enthusiastic cupids. Welcome to Dean's life.A slight AU starting in season 5. Cupid (on heaven’s orders) uses some magic to nudge things along between Dean and Castiel while the apocalypse is still happening around them. Dean’s resistive to the idea when the difference between suggestion and destiny isn’t made clear to him. Castiel takes a while to understand feelings. Sam gets things done and maybe rolls his eyes at the emotionally constipated idiots he’s surrounded by. I’ve linked to the main fic, but the following ‘parts’ are shorter additions to the universe that flesh out the universe. Tripping

Fandom: SHERLOCK Pairing: Gen Length: 5530 Author on LJ:Author Website: Ao3Why this must be read:“Are you telling me I’m a thrillseeker?” John snorts, but he’s listening. “That’s a new one.” “No.” Sherlock turns over. “I’m telling you that you’re an addict.” “An addict.” “The second-worst I’ve known,” says Sherlock with a flash of hazel as he looks back at John.
John Watson may get fed up with Sherlock a lot all the time, but he can’t bring himself to walk out and leave for something more stable. John Watson is addicted to adventure and danger, but he’s also addicted to Sherlock, and it all becomes a little clearer when John tries dipping a toe back into his old life. Anarchy in the UK

Fandom: Parks and Recreation Pairing: Leslie Knope/Ben Wyatt, Ann Perkins/Chris Traeger, April Ludgate/Andy Dwyer Length: 11 chapters of about 3-4k words each Author on LJ: synecdoche Author Website: None (but LJ is all fic) Why this must be read: This is another post-"Li'l Sebastian" entry, albeit one that's longer and a bit more upbeat than some of its peers. But this was an early favorite of mine when I began digging into Parksfic, and with good reason--didn't we all wany Leslie and Ben to find a way to navigate their relationship and her campaign? Throw in some surprisingly good Ann/Chris business and a dash of April and Andy actually kinda acting like adults on occasion, and you've got a recipe for awesome. ( He closes with something like call me Bill, Leslie followed by see you at seven! but Leslie is too busy savoring the moment, the way her kitchen is illuminated by the green-gold of the May sunlight filtering through the trees in her backyard. Usually government is all about these small, great moments as a result of months and months of struggle and even if she hasn't particularly struggled for this exact phone call, she can feel the seconds swelling up inside her, building the moment bigger and bigger and, most definitely, great. )next stop, the world

Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: Arthur/Merlin, also Gwen/Lance Rating: R Summary: Arthur works for his dad in publishing, and when he meets Merlin on the tube, he's inexplicably attracted. Because he isn't gay, right? Why this must be read: If for nothing else, read it for Will, because he is hilarious as Merlin's no-bones-about-it straight best friend. But this is also a sweet romance as Arthur tries to figure himself out, and Merlin wonders if Arthur's into him. Merlin constantly needs the advice of his mates, so he pulls his cell phone out whenever possible to update them when he's out with Arthur. Arthur gets his advice from surprisingly understanding stepsister Morgana. A fun read. Link: Lovestruck

Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair Length: 5 K words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: at 852 prospect Why this must be read: Because it’s nice to be reminded that Jim has an education and uses it. Post-series, Blair is a cop and has been instrumental in solving a crime. The victim is a big-wig and is properly grateful at a chi-chi party the mayor is throwing in Blair’s honor. Unfortunately some Rainier faculty are in attendance, and one of them is doing his best to denigrate Blair. Jim notices a woman defending Blair, using a poem by Robert Frost to do so. Confused but intrigued, Jim decides to study the poem and, in doing so, explore his relationship with Blair. So often, Jim dispenses with words in favor of action and it gives the impression that he’s a glorified jock. But he had to have a college education to become an Army officer and a detective. It’s refreshing to see his reflective side. Sigrid only wrote two TS stories and co-authored a third. They are all worth reading. Enjoy. Yield by Sigrid --magician’s mantra: make an author’s day. Fandom: Stargate Atlantis Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay Length: 67,906 words Author on LJ: lavvyanAuthor Website: AO3 / WraithbaitAuthor's Summary: When Rodney is culled, John suddenly has to deal with the loss of his best friend. As for Rodney, things go downhill from there. Set somewhere after The Hive, spoilers up to that episode. Why this must be read: It's heartbreaking and fun and has a happy ending. When Rodney is culled, John has to deal with the loss of his friend and the sudden realization about the depth of his feelings. John's struggle to let Rodney go will make you ache for him - several scenes never fail to make me tear up. Meanwhile, Rodney must survive while stranded on a culled world, fighting an infection and the perils of loneliness. I love presumed dead fics, and this is one that I've re-read countless times. Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Length: 4,285 words Author on LJ: jenooferAuthor Website: jen's Starsky & Hutch fiction on LiveJournal Why this must be read:As I mentioned in my last rec, this story is a mirror-image in theme to Kate Roman's Been Thinking. And yet, the stories are very different. In Been Thinking, Hutch was the POV character. In this story, it's Starsky. Like the last story, the events are internalized, focused on the POV character's view, and especially on the issues that are troubling him. In this story, we are somewhere in fourth season, and the partners are out of sync. Something's wrong, but neither of them can verbalize it nor get to the root of the problem. When Starsky is surprised to find Hutch in a bar drinking by himself, he's concerned that this is just another symptom of what's gone wrong between them.
